Just as the Electro, Max Dillon, was about to arrive in New York, he witnessed an utterly despairing sight: the city lights of New York had completely shut down in an instant! Countless lights flickered out at once, plunging the entire city into darkness overnight. From Long Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands, to Manhattan, the city's heart, silence fell almost completely.
Better to shut down the power themselves than let the Electro absorb it—this was the first step of the plan.
"No! No! No!"
The Electro felt immense pain. He needed electricity! He craved electricity!
Every inch of his body (though whether he still had skin was debatable) yearned for electrical energy. The residual current in his body was barely enough to make any movement comfortable. He could feel those minute currents gnawing at his being. Every move was agonizing, as if countless ants were chewing on his bones.
Even though he was purely composed of electricity, he still felt himself sweating profusely and was overcome by an inexplicable chill.
Electricity! He wanted electricity!
Only more electricity could alleviate his pain.
"Aah!!!"
He flew over Queens, passing countless residential buildings. The faint electrical energy in residents' phones, computers, and power banks were all sucked dry by him. Some people, ignoring the warnings from the Avengers and the government, set up their own diesel generators and opened their 24-hour convenience stores. The Electro in the sky simply overloaded their generators until they exploded.
Near a private hospital, several robbers were preparing to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They brandished flashlights, crowbars, and baseball bats, ready to smash the hospital window, when suddenly the flashlights sparked and plunged into darkness. As the thieves looked at each other in confusion, one of them was instantly struck down. The remaining few, having no idea what happened, quickly looked around, but saw no one.
In the pitch black, everyone was knocked unconscious by an unseen force.
"Okay, looks like being a superhero isn't simple either."
Gwen wiped sweat from her brow, looking at the criminals she had knocked out using her abilities. She really hadn't received any physical enhancement; it was exhausting.
And that crackling guy flying overhead had drained her phone battery. Even the power from a single AA battery was probably sucked up by him.
But for Max Dillon, it still wasn't enough.
"Where is the electricity?! Where is it!!!"
"Where is my electricity!"
He had flown a loop around Brooklyn and Queens, but the minute amounts of absorbed energy were utterly insufficient. He desperately craved electricity. But at this moment, not even the Avengers Tower had any power.
He had to go to another city to find more electricity!
Suddenly, he felt a surge of electricity in Manhattan. The Electro broke into a look of intoxicated bliss, then surged toward the source of the current.
The one generating the electricity was none other than Peter.
He was wearing an Anti-Electro Suit specifically designed to counter the villain. Parts of the suit had armored structures, most notably the chest, shoulders, wrists, and calves. The color scheme was largely consistent with the original blue and white suit, but the lines extending from the chest spider symbol also branched out to the calves and arms.
As bio-electricity surged from Peter's body to the surface of his skin, the eye lenses and the chest spider logo lit up first, followed by all the web lines on the suit. Tactical information appeared on Peter's eye lenses. He took a deep breath, stretching his limbs like an athlete on TV.
"I hear this suit can reach supersonic, even hypersonic, speeds." Quicksilver looked at Peter's glowing new suit, marveling. "Want to race?"
"Maybe later. Stick to the plan, Quicksilver. Capturing this guy is up to us." Peter shrugged. Quicksilver smiled and departed. Peter then stood on the top of Avengers Tower, waiting for the Electro to fly toward him. When the Electro saw Peter, his eyes lit up, letting out a surprised "Electricity?!" before pouncing, completely disregarding whether the person was the Spider-Man who had beaten him before, or if the new suit posed a problem.
He charged in and grabbed Spider-Man's shoulder. Bio-electricity immediately flowed from Spider-Man's body into his. Peter felt his bio-electricity weakening; even his wall-crawling adhesion was decreasing.
But before Peter could be completely drained, he grabbed the Electro's arm and yanked. The new suit's gauntlet, along with the current flowing out of the Electro, instantly recharged the entire suit. The Electro let out a cry of pain.
It's a trap!
The Electro instantly realized what was happening. He didn't dare stay any longer. This place was stripping him of his electricity, and he had so much more to absorb. He couldn't be caught here.
"Hey, God, is the only time a guy going to an electric-rehab center gets this excited when he's running away?"
Peter watched the Electro fly off and immediately charged out. His running was also accompanied by lightning, pushing his speed past his previous limits, breaking the sound barrier in a single burst. He landed on a wall and began a fast pursuit of the Electro. Thanks to the bio-force field device previously given by Osborn, he didn't have to worry about shattering glass walls as he ran on them.
He could even fire webs and perform a supersonic swing.
But this wasn't the final effect.
"Okay, finally connected." Tony, who had been cut off for a few minutes and couldn't hold back any longer, finally restored contact using the suit's rebooted system. "The power consumption is fast, Web-Slinger. You need to grab the Electro again quickly to draw new power from him."
"That depends on how well the bait is prepared."
High above Manhattan, the injured Electro was fleeing Spider-Man. Suddenly, he saw the distant Baxter Building light up. Could it be another trap?
"I'm an energy being now! I'll be fine! At worst, I'll just electrocute everyone!"
The Electro said viciously, arriving at the Baxter Building. He flew directly toward the power source and saw a giant... hamster wheel.
"Hey, buddy, how was my run?"
A silver-haired boy in a green, friction-resistant uniform smiled as he stepped off the wheel. The electricity immediately began to dissipate. The Electro desperately began to absorb the lost electrical energy, but Spider-Man had already caught up behind him, grabbing his arm and once again drawing the current from his body.
The Electro let out an instant cry of agony.
