Spider-Gwen was in a bitter fight, a truly brutal one. The "stalling for time" that Harry had talked about was simply... taking a beating.
A vibratory wave from Shocker slammed into her, sending her flying. She was then relentlessly stabbed by Doctor Octopus's tentacles, followed by a charge from Rhino. After barely dodging a sweep from Scorpion, she was immediately pinned against the wall by the Lizard.
"Ugh, thanks, but your breath seriously stinks, Connors!"
A kick to Connors' groin barely allowed Spider-Gwen to regain a momentary advantage. She then seized the chance, using the greatest strength she'd ever summoned to slam directly onto Connors' back. After the Lizard howled, Spider-Gwen kicked him away.
"You shouldn't have bullied Peter, Connors!"
I'm not here to be a superhero—at least, I'm not a superhero—but I can take revenge for my friend.
Or maybe for myself, Spider-Gwen thought, breathlessly watching the other four enemies surround her. Suddenly, Scorpion roared: "Moon?! You lied to me?"
Huh? What's going on?
Completely bewildered, Spider-Gwen watched her enemies suddenly turn on each other. Scorpion bellowed: "You tricked me into betraying S.H.I.E.L.D., you tricked me into doing your dirty work, and now you tell me I don't need the serum anymore?!"
"Agent 77, what in the world are you talking about? You know you'd be dead by now if it weren't for my Spider-Isotope Serum."
Wait, this guy called Scorpion gets his powers from a Spider-Isotope Serum? Scorpion, using a Spider Serum?
That was too weird.
Spider-Gwen, taking deep breaths and using the moment to rest and let her mind wander, watched the scene. But Scorpion continued to roar: "How much longer are you going to lie to me?! The materials are stored right inside this Scorpion armor!"
Wait, the Scorpion's armor stores information this explosive? This Silk girl is way too careless. She's not thorough enough.
The daydreaming Spider-Gwen watched Scorpion angrily shout, "I quit!" and turn to leave. Immediately, Silk forcibly took over his armor, ordering him to fight, but the armor malfunctioned, and the tail broke off.
Then, the broken tail slammed into Shocker, who fell to the ground, immobile.
What just happened?
"You're next!"
Accompanied by a familiar voice—her own—Spider-Gwen saw another version of herself appear in her field of vision, wearing the exact same outfit. She picked up Scorpion's broken tail and slammed it right into Silk.
"Whew, I don't get many chances to beat up Cindy like this. We're not enemies in our world."
Gwen from Earth-616 let out a long breath. Spider-Gwen suddenly remembered everything. This is what happened: Gwen uploaded the data to Scorpion's armor, which is why Scorpion became enraged and tried to leave. Then, Scorpion's armor was controlled, and his tail was forcibly ripped off by the other Gwen, who then used the broken Scorpion tail to smash Shocker away!
And she hadn't noticed any of it just now!
"This is too ridiculous... How did you do that? How did you get your powers?"
"Uh, I've actually explained this three times now. You ask the same question every time you see me."
The 616 Gwen, who had just taken down a Scorpion, dismissed her power. "My ability is kind of like... out of sight, out of mind? If I use my ability, the situation will unfold as it just did. The things I do won't actually be perceived; the process is automatically spliced together."
"What about the spider powers?"
"Spider-Isotope Serum. There's plenty in the warehouse. Oh, right, there's also a 3D printer there that can print suits. Sorry for the wardrobe clash, but I did design an identical suit at my place."
No, well, they're both Gwen Stacy, so it's not surprising they designed the same thing. Spider-Gwen scratched her head, then asked, "So, what do we call ourselves? Are we both Spider-Woman?"
"No, I have a better idea. I have one more ability than you, so you're Spider-Woman, and I'm Ghost-Spider."
Ghost-Spider. What a great name. A Spider-Woman whose existence is only noticed by those who are meant to see her. I wanted that name, too, but someone got there first.
Spider-Gwen sighed, then looked at Doctor Silk, who was knocked down by Scorpion's tail: "Alright, Cindy, you need to answer for Peter's death!"
"Me? Wasn't it you who killed that poor boy, Spider-Woman?"
Cindy Moon stood up with a laugh, staring at Spider-Woman. "You mercilessly beat him to death, didn't you? As far as I know, that boy had regained his will in the end and was begging you to stop hitting him, wasn't he?"
"If you hadn't realized afterward that he was your friend, Gwen, would you have regretted it so much? No. You would have thought you were right, that you protected your friends and killed a monster. Admit it, Gwen, you don't fundamentally think killing the Lizard was wrong, otherwise why didn't you stop?"
For some reason, the memory of that day flashed before Gwen's eyes again. She covered her head, taking a deep breath.
As for Cindy Moon, she had no intention of genuinely fighting the Spider-Gwen in front of her head-on. She had many ways to deal with the girl, and psychological attack was just one of them. The other was just a high schooler. If she could persuade her to join forces, that would be great, as she could conveniently replace the treacherous Agent 77.
"Maybe. Maybe everything you said is true. But I can punch myself any time; I won't get another chance to punch you!"
Gwen was here to take revenge for her friend. She was absolutely clear on that.
Cindy Moon smiled and made way. She had actually called Rhino in secret. If Gwen disagreed, she would have Rhino smash her. But after waiting a moment, Rhino made no move. She turned around and saw that Rhino had tripped and fallen to the ground on his own.
Doctor Silk couldn't help but roll her eyes. What kind of underlings did I even recruit?
Of course, Rhino was actually taken down by the 616 Ghost-Spider, but Silk couldn't remember it. She could only rationalize it as Rhino having simply tripped. Now, she needed to defeat the Spider-Woman in front of her.
"Very well, Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman." Doctor Silk showed a cruel smile. "Let's have this final battle!"
"No, and me."
Harry, who had finally dealt with the Vulture, drifted down with his pumpkin bombs.
