Chapter 317 - Chapter 317: The Web Event?

Venom, in his "Power-Type" form, was busy beating up Hulk Spider. It's worth noting that the reason it was a "beating" was because Hulk Spider's combat strength wasn't actually that high, roughly on par with, or perhaps even less than, the Wasteland Hulk.

This relates to a confusing Hulk rule: if the Hulk is no longer angry, his combat power plummets. Hulk Spider was the un-angry Hulk. He had conquered his world for over a decade, was unbeatable, and had nothing left to make him angry. As a result, his intelligence had started to rise, and he had become more like an adult.

While this didn't change the fundamental fact that the Hulk gets stronger with rage, it certainly weakened his base combat power, causing him to be on the back foot when the fight began.

And so, he endured a continuous beating from Venom.

Venom was no longer what he used to be. Although absorbing symbiotes like Riot—which had their own Codex—could only seal their consciousness, the act of consuming Grendel had genuinely given Venom a massive upgrade. He continuously pounded Hulk Spider, aiming specifically for the head, with one goal in mind.

If you knock the Hulk out, the job's done, right?

Generally, this shouldn't happen, but the gap between this Hulk's initial combat power and Venom's was genuinely massive. So... he really was knocked out quickly. Venom then reverted to Peter, and Peter picked up Hulk Spider's ring.

[There is a special energy in here, it feels like magic.]

So this is the shield Strange couldn't break through?

Peter exerted force and crushed the Spider Lantern Ring and the little spider inside. For some reason, he felt that spider resembled Kalkin, which was slightly disgusting.

He hoped that now that the ring was crushed, Strange would know he was safe.

As he crushed the ring, Peter saw a person floating in the air, sitting cross-legged. He wore a magic cloak similar to Strange's, but his entire body was covered in web-like patterns.

The individual undoubtedly had a face identical to his own and looked at Peter as he crushed the ring, as if to say, you win.

Then, Hulk Spider vanished in a gust of wind.

Who was that? A Sorcerer Supreme version of Spider-Man?

Then, amidst briefly forgetting and remembering, he spotted two Gwens who looked—or rather, were dressed—identically and had identical powers.

After confirming which Gwen was his own, Peter webbed her back and pulled her over, expressing his absolute confusion.

"I have a question. When did you get spider powers?"

Gwen replied matter-of-factly, "The Spider Isotope Serum, obviously?"

Peter knew about that. To some extent, this was the final version the Pentagon's Savage Strength Project on Earth-616 was aiming for: a non-permanent Super-Soldier Serum that offered powerful effects without side effects.

While the non-permanent aspect might be annoying for someone who wanted to be a permanent superhero, it was sufficient for the Pentagon.

Need to remember not to let Gwen bring that thing home, that would be troublesome, Peter secretly noted.

Gwen, however, wasn't bothered. She watched the fight between Earth-65's Spider-Gwen and Cindy Moon with eagerness. "Are we not going to get involved?" she asked.

"No. I ran into a Spider-Man named Miguel earlier. He warned that excessive interference in other universes can cause the universe to collapse. These incidents are called Web Events, and we suspect they are the result of over-interfering with other Spider-People's lives."

Gwen paused, then looked confused. "What counts as 'excessive interference'?"

"You can change the storyline, but you can't change the main character."

Miguel, who had been absent for a long time, reappeared. Gwen looked slightly surprised at the muscular, Captain America-sized, DC-dark-style Spider-Man who emerged from a spacetime tunnel, but Peter's Spider-Sense had already confirmed his arrival.

Specifically, Peter had sensed something the moment he crushed the ring.

"This universe, like many others, had a spatial barrier established. I'm not sure what happened, but I detected a possible Web Event and intense Multiversal vibration frequencies, so I came. Sure enough, you were involved."

Miguel scanned the Gwen next to Peter. "The one you brought, you take back. I only prepared a bracelet for you, not for your teammates."

"It's fine, the spatial barrier is gone, I can get back myself. So, what's next?"

"Your decision was correct, Spider-Man. I've detected that reality is on the verge of shaking. It was the right choice not to intervene further."

Miguel continued to explain: "Regardless, the final battle can only be completed by her. This is the story of this world's Spider-Woman. She must have her protagonist battle as a mark of being the Spider-Man of this universe."

Gwen looked at Miguel with some dissatisfaction. "Who is he? Blue Panther? Cloak Blue Army? Black Garfield? Or Freedom Muscle Man?"

Miguel stared at Gwen with disapproval, then turned to Peter, the message clear: She's from your universe. You brought her. Control her.

"Alright, this is Miguel O'Hara, the Spider-Man from Earth-928. In his universe, the time is 2099. He's the friendly Spider-Ally I met during my previous universe jump."

Peter also introduced the Spider Society guys to Miguel: "There is a group calling themselves the Web Gods who have chosen to recruit a large number of Spider-People eager to conquer their own universes into their organization. They have a lot of members. This is the second time I've seen them. They came here to recruit Silk, the Spider Totem with the long claws."

Miguel finally frowned.

When Peter previously mentioned establishing a Multiversal base for Spider-Man, Miguel wasn't very concerned, thinking it was just about creating a transit station. But now that wicked, ambitious Spider Totems had gathered to form an organization, Miguel felt that forming a Spider Alliance was absolutely necessary.

"What is their goal?"

"To counter a more powerful enemy and expand their army."

That's not good news, Miguel thought, while looking over at the ongoing battle.

It looked like the combination of Spider-Gwen and the Mini-Green Goblin versus Doctor Silk was about to reach its conclusion.
