Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22: CONFUSION

Jayden's p.o.v

After his was done with his responsibilities, he decided to go grab a drink. He turns his attention on the Deucalion showing one the juniors how to exude confidence. Yeah, if the guy has a chance of winning the competition doubt has to be the last thing haunting him. While on his search he bumps into Alex, she's crying?

"Can I please use your room for the remainder of the trip?"

"Why? What's wrong with your hotel? Did Lucas cheap out on your accommodations?"

She looks at the beach then back at him. She looks upset and he does not know how to make her feel better.

"No, it's nothing like that we are sharing a room. I have my own room, but I want to be alone right now."

Tears kept falling, but her breathing and voice were steady. He heard rumours that she might be autistic, or a sociopath based on her behavioural patterns. She is often brutally direct, unnecessarily honest, almost like she enjoyed testing how people would react. Her emotions, and her reading of other people's emotions, usually felt muted. She barely spoke unless it was with the same people every day. The first time he spoke to her, it felt like she iced him out before he had said a word. But the more they interacted, the less cold she seemed—still distant, but slightly warmer.

The only time he'd seen her intentional like this, the way she looked now, was when a woman had been teetering on the edge of the school building. She had jumped. No one could have predicted it until she was on the ground, Alex immediately dropped her books and ran to her. Leo was shaking so he cradled him shielding him away from the scene. The woman landed in an awkward position that should have been impossible to survive. For the first time, he saw genuine fear and concern in Alex as she yelled for someone to take action.

The ambulance had arrived over ten minutes later, and somehow, the woman was still alive, not screaming in unbearable pain. Alex did not let go until she had machines hooked on her and the paramedics assuring her that they will try everything in their power to save her.

She looked devastated before anger crept in minutes later when a video started circulating of a couple of men harassing her, threatening to release her private photos. She seemed to be extremelyupset by the video that she immediately reported the incident to the dean and then involving the police.

She spent months gathering evidence, identifying the men and their accomplices. Two eventually faced homicide charges, the rest harassment charges—a slap on the wrist, but they were suspended for a semester and now had permanent records. Alex had devoted herself completely to the process, obsessively pursuing justice while still retaining the top student in the Health and Science facultytitle, according to Leo. And now, she was crying but her expression was almost unreadable. There was grief, but little outward emotion. Jayden's stomach twisted. What really happened?

"Alex, you can tell me what happened?"

"A junior from your department is my fated and I don't particularly like him. I was fine with sharing the hotel with friends, but Lucas switched rooms with his roommate and I want to move."

"Are you talking about Noah?"

"Great you know him." She rolls her eyes throwing her hands in exasperated. "Please help. You will have the room unless Leo protests."

Right, she's sharing a room with Leo. "Deal."

They exchanged keys and he walked off relaxed. It's funny how fate loves, love. He has an online meeting with Leam and a difficult client with conflicting ideas.

Seekyli: << 'Sir.'>>

Leam is his business partner and also have been his best friend for over fifteen years. He comes from a family of hunters, but they never exposed his identity to him. He has also never brought up their identity to Leam, mostly to shield him from their world. His parent often calls him to maintain order amongst their kind; this is neutral territory and that's what they want to ensure. There are many hands keeping the treaty amongst the supernatural, humans and hunters. Those invisible hands working on the background all have motives to follow the treaty and removing those who threaten to disrupt the order.

Seekyli: << 'Yes, he is. He slept in the office again sir.'>> The voice expressed his concern, <<'do you need me to pass over a message?'>>

Jay: <

Seekyli: << 'Is that all, sir?'>>

Jay: <

Seekyli: << 'Yes sir, when will you come to the garage?'>>

Jay: << Probably next week, I still have to connect Leam's system. Noah wrote encryption layers, security checks, biometric access systems, and threat detection programs."

Seekyli: << 'Sir, what about the codes?'>>

Jay: <

Seekyli: << 'I'm on it, sir.>>

He looks up and he sees Lucas. He indicates he waits a bit, Lucas nods and walks. He follows him, his attention still on his secretary.

Jay: <

Seekyli: << 'Yes, sir. Can I set a meeting with all departments next week before you begin with the project?'>>

He drops the phone call, and he realised Lucas walked him to the room he shares with Toby. Lucas looks serious, where's Toby?

"Jayden, we need to talk."
