Marie's POV
"You want us to talk? Now?" I asked, trying to figure out if this was the right time. Besides, all I could think about was the door bursting open and him catching us together.
What would I explain to him? What lie would match the situation? "If it was another snooping, I promise I wouldn't do it again. I just want to play along now."
"But why? Don't you want to go home to your family?" His piercing gaze met mine. They all looked so scary, but I didn't fear Leonel for some reason, maybe because I thought he was calm.
"I'm scared and tired. I don't even know what else to say, and that's why I just want to play along. When he has gotten what he wants, then I'll be free to do whatever I want, or better still, he'll change and become a loving husband."
Immediately I said that Leonel frowned. Perhaps those weren't the words he was expecting to hear.
