Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: The Dragon God

It felt as if the blood inside Gu You's body was flowing backward, a strange searing pain sweeping through every inch of him.

"I'm starting now," the Ice Emperor Scorpion said softly, lowering its head to touch Gu You's forehead. The surge of ultimate ice energy coated everything around them in a thick layer of white frost.

His martial soul began to release outward, and his soul power seemed to be approaching a limit.

Thirty!!

A black soul ring edged with faint red shot out from the Ice Emperor Scorpion and hovered beneath Gu You's feet.

Gu You's entire body tensed, veins bulging, the physical pain immense — but oddly, his mind felt extraordinarily calm and comfortable, an indescribable sensation.

The black soul ring pulsed wildly. Gu You pressed two fingers together, his eyes snapping open — but now, his pupils were vertical slits. The restless soul ring settled, quietly spinning under him.

"You really pulled it off," the Ice Emperor Scorpion said with admiration. "You probably know that all soul beasts have soul bones. Naturally, I have one too. I'm granting you my right leg bone. It's already close to mutating — basically on par with a true hundred-thousand-year soul bone — and it comes with two attached skills."

Gu You's face lit up with shock. "You're really a hundred-thousand-year soul beast?"

"That's right. I should have been a hundred-thousand-year beast long ago. But because of the heavenly tribulation, I kept suppressing it. Now, fusing with you, I'm no longer bound by that restriction — I'm finally considered a true hundred-thousand-year soul beast."

Gu You took a deep breath, closing his eyes to focus fully. The pain gradually faded, but he knew it wasn't over yet. A hundred-thousand-year soul bone, even one offered willingly, carried immense power — the soul ring could be stabilized with his spiritual strength, but the bone itself could only be endured physically.

The black soul ring began to emit a reddish glow, surging with overwhelming energy. The frost sealing the area cracked apart, and even the device that had once suppressed the Ice Emperor Scorpion shattered under the pressure.

'Now!'

The Ice Emperor Scorpion's right leg bone floated before Gu You and slowly merged into his right leg.

An indescribable, bone-deep pain erupted. The agony was so intense that he soon lost all feeling in his leg.

"Aaah!"

A crushing sense of despair rose in Gu You's chest, as if the entire world around him was plunging into darkness.

'Why…'

Suddenly, the world around him shifted.

Darkness. Endless, eternal darkness.

"Where is this place?" Gu You gasped, pinching his arm hard. He felt the pain. He remembered clearly — just moments ago, he'd been fusing the soul bone. How did he end up here in the blink of an eye?

'Why…'

That voice again, deep and low, filled with desolation and loneliness — and a barely restrained flicker of fury.

"Why? Yes… why?" Gu You murmured, his head lowering. 'Why did I come to this world? Why do I have this strange martial soul?'

Suddenly, a burst of purple light appeared in the sky, casting a faint glow across the pitch-black realm.

Gu You slowly looked up — and his pupils dilated.

A dragon.

A colossal dragon, stretching ten thousand meters long!

Nine radiant rings of strange light floated around its body. Its purple scales glowed faintly, looking as solid and unyielding as mountain rock. Behind its head, the nine halos expanded and contracted, pulsing rhythmically.

'A god king…'

Gu You stared in silence. He knew: this was the answer he had been searching for.

"Human, you've finally come," the great dragon's voice echoed, surprisingly gentle — a stark contrast to its immense, oppressive aura.

"Yes," Gu You said with a small smile. "I've finally come to uncover the truth between us."

"Do not approach the Dragon God," the dragon warned softly. "This is only my benevolent will — the part of me that wishes to tell you something important. Soon, I will fall asleep again. When that happens, my malevolent will shall take over. It will punish you for daring to approach the Dragon God. Even if it won't kill you, you will pay a heavy price."

"Then let it come," Gu You replied calmly. "Senior, tell me your story. I want to understand — what happened in the distant past? What grudges or hatreds still remain? The Dragon God is dead. Now, in this world, only its two bloodlines remain: the Golden Dragon King and the Silver Dragon King. But if the two merge, the Dragon God will be reborn."

Gu You gazed steadily at the great dragon. 'Since I've inherited this power, I can't just be an ungrateful thief. If it truly comes down to a great vendetta, I will kill the Golden Dragon King and erase its bloodline, ensuring it disappears forever.'

But… 'Not yet. The masters of this realm are still the Tang family, the future Divine Tree of Life — beings at the true god level, or second-level gods. They are far beyond my current reach.'

"In ancient times," the great dragon began, "two dragons were born between heaven and earth. One embodied creation, the other destruction. Back then, the dragon clan flourished, becoming the strongest race in existence — no one could rival us. Later, I and the Dragon God ascended to the divine realm, leading countless clansmen. Everything seemed perfect. But then, the Dragon God made a decision I couldn't understand: it decreed that soul beasts would no longer be allowed to ascend to godhood.

"At the time, the Dragon God's power surpassed the human deities of the divine realm by several times. To ease tensions, it ignored the protests within our divine beast faction and issued that decree — sanctioned by the laws of heaven and earth. No one could stop it. I was furious.

"The Dragon God trusted humans too much. It didn't understand their malice, their ambition… I believed in humanity's evil, while it clung to the belief in humanity's goodness.

"I led the soul beasts loyal to me in rebellion. But I underestimated the Dragon God's strength. It had mastered powers beyond mere creation — it had tapped into multiple divine laws, achieving the status of supreme god king.

"I was its companion spirit, two halves of a whole. I embodied eternal destruction; it embodied eternal creation. Our powers balanced each other, drawing strength from opposing energies. But in that final battle, I was defeated by the Dragon God's fury. It annihilated me with its divine power, wiping out all the divine beasts who had rebelled alongside me.

"My essence wasn't completely destroyed. A fragment of my soul drifted through the world, helpless, as I watched the Dragon God eventually be slain by human gods. I don't know if it regretted its choices in the end… but I know that, ultimately, I won.

"Afterward, I wandered through the cosmos, forgotten by the history of Douluo. By chance, I ended up parasitizing your consciousness, using a sliver of divine power to send you here — helping you reincarnate and slowly regain my strength. I set nine seals in place, waiting for you to unlock and absorb them over time."

When the Dragon God finished its tale, Gu You remained silent for a long while.

'Whose fault was it, really?' he wondered. 'Was it humanity's? Or the fault of a soul beast god?'
