Gu You raised his right fist to his chest and saluted in the manner of the Blood God Legion.
Long Yuxue stepped forward, supporting his elbow with her left hand and adjusting his arm with her right.
"Here, just above the heart. Got it?"
"Got it."
"Go have breakfast first. Oh, by the way, Qiyue wanted me to put in a word for her..." As she said this, even Long Yuxue herself couldn't help but chuckle, recalling Jiang Qiyue's pitiful pleading face last night. The thought filled her with a faint sense of wicked satisfaction. 'So that girl has moments like this too.'
"Oh? Alright. I didn't take that bet too seriously anyway. I'll just eat one meal today," said Gu You.
"Why can you eat so much?" Long Yuxue couldn't help but ask.
Gu You replied, "Well... it's probably just a special talent. But I can eat less if needed, it's not like I have to eat that much every time. I pretty much can eat however much I want, but that doesn't mean I feel full."
Long Yuxue gave him a surprised glance and nodded. "So you've never been full?"
Gu You looked at her with a strange expression. "I've been full... before."
At breakfast, they ran into Jiang Qiyue again. Unlike her lively look yesterday, today she had styled her hair into two braids, looking like a neighborhood girl-next-door. Her face wore a pitiful expression.
Gu You simply smiled and shook his head. But he didn't underestimate Jiang Qiyue. Anyone who could attain her position in the Blood God Legion was no simple character. She might look cute, but inside, she was probably quite the schemer.
"Good morning, ma'am." Gu You saluted her.
Jiang Qiyue quickly waved her hands. "We're all on the same side, comrades-in-arms. No need for ranks when we're not on duty. Just call me by name, alright? Pretty boy, listen..."
Gu You said, "Just something light today. Let's go with Window Six, just one serving. I ate a lot last night and haven't fully digested it."
"Really?" Jiang Qiyue's big eyes immediately lit up, and when she looked at Long Yuxue beside her, her face was full of gratitude.
Long Yuxue said, "I had nothing to do with this. He agreed on his own."
Jiang Qiyue immediately cheered and wrapped her arms around Gu You's arm. "Thank you, handsome!"
Gu You instantly felt something soft pressing against him and couldn't help but let out a bitter smile as he subtly pulled away. "It's nothing. Yesterday was just a joke. I'll be in your care from now on, ma'am."
Jiang Qiyue's eyes glimmered slightly...
After breakfast, Long Yuxue took Gu You to the Blood God Legion Command Center. The promotion ceremony would be held there—it was tradition in the legion.
The Command Center was extremely minimalist, with no decorations. Everything looked as cold as the snow outside. The ceremony was held in a small auditorium that could accommodate about a hundred people. By the time Gu You arrived with Long Yuxue, a dozen or so individuals were already seated. Judging by the stars on their epaulettes, the place was full of high-ranking officers.
Looking around, there were at least two generals, with the rest being colonels or higher. Gu You noticed that many of them looked at him with curiosity.
'Did I really go overboard during that assessment?'
Long Yuxue had him stand to the side, then walked to the front of the group, stood at attention, and saluted.
"Vice Chief of the Special Operations Division, Long Yuxue, reporting. New recruit Gu You has been brought. Awaiting orders."
Long Tianwu said, "Begin."
"Yes, sir."
Long Yuxue turned and said to Gu You, "Recruit Gu You, step forward for rank appointment."
Gu You marched confidently to the center of the stage in front of the officers, saluted with a fist to the chest in Blood God Legion fashion.
Long Tianwu stood up and approached. Long Yuxue brought over a tray from nearby, bearing two epaulettes and two golden collar pins.
'A bar and a star... Second Lieutenant?'
Gu You froze for a moment. Weren't new recruits supposed to start at Private? He had figured with his performance, maybe First-Class Private was possible—but Second Lieutenant?
The three ranks of private soldiers were Junior Sergeant, Sergeant, and Senior Sergeant. Only after those came Second Lieutenant. The biggest difference was that even a Senior Sergeant was still a soldier, while a Second Lieutenant was a true officer.
Being directly commissioned as an officer upon enlistment—now that was something. A high starting point meant quicker promotions.
Long Tianwu looked at Gu You and said, "Gu You, we reviewed your assessment footage. Your performance was outstanding. The fact that you were able to exhibit such combat prowess without using soul power was truly astonishing. According to legion rules, excellent recruits may be promoted to Senior Sergeant. But due to your exceptional performance, we have decided to make an exception and award you the rank of Second Lieutenant. We hope you continue to strive forward and earn great merit."
"Yes, sir!" Gu You responded.
Long Tianwu personally affixed the rank insignia to his shoulders. His pristine white uniform, now adorned with the officer's markings, instantly made Gu You look even more dignified and heroic.
"Second Lieutenant Gu You, assigned to the Special Operations Division as a staff officer. Your appointment begins after a one-month training period."
From that moment on, Gu You became Staff Officer Second Lieutenant Gu You of the Special Operations Division. It also meant he had officially joined the Federation military and become a full officer. A brand-new chapter lay ahead.
'A staff officer? What exactly does that entail?' Gu You didn't fully understand, but since he was here, he'd go with the flow. Over the next month, he'd learn what the job really meant. But being in the Special Operations Division meant he'd likely be working closely with Long Yuxue, the Deputy Director.
"Commander, should I begin my special training now?" Gu You asked.
Long Yuxue nodded. "Yes. I'll be your instructor for the next month. Your training will follow my arrangements. We'll start with some theoretical education."
To Gu You's surprise, she didn't take him to any classroom. Instead, they arrived at a room with both inner and outer chambers. It looked very much like someone's personal quarters.
"Sit down. This is my room," Long Yuxue said matter-of-factly.
Gu You didn't ask questions and sat down on the living room couch.
Long Yuxue said, "You're the only new recruit, so there's no need for a separate space. What I'm about to teach you, you must remember."
"Yes, ma'am."
Long Yuxue gave him a glance. "There's no one else here. Just call me by name. We're colleagues now."
"That... doesn't feel right," Gu You said, glancing at her.
Long Yuxue's face turned cold as she said...
