Chapter 358 - Chapter 358: Call for Reinforcements

'Reinforcements... they'd better arrive soon!'

After all, the energy of this defensive barrier was limited. Only with continuous replenishment could the defensive line maintain its powerful output.

Watching the plumes of mist explode and be absorbed back into the abyssal passage, the vice commander of the Ironblood Regiment felt a throbbing headache. The biggest problem troubling the Blood God Legion was this—there was simply no way to truly destroy the abyssal creatures.

If they could truly annihilate them, then over six thousand years of war, even if just by attrition, would have suppressed their overall strength by now.

At that moment, squads of Blood God Legion soldiers arrived from the distance, along with all sorts of equipment. They quickly took their positions, swapped out energy cells, and reinforced the power supply. Additional soul tools were installed at every section of the perimeter. One mecha after another surrounded the main exit of the abyssal passage, forming a strict array, ready to plunge into battle at a moment's notice.

"What's the status?" A massive mecha descended from the sky and landed beside the vice commander.

Seeing who it was, the vice commander finally exhaled a breath of relief.

"We've held them back for now. But... we've lost over four battalions."

"What?" Ma Shan was shocked. The sudden alarm had immediately made him suspect an abyssal tide. Only that could cause such a violent emergency. But he hadn't expected it to be this serious. In the past hundred years, the number of warriors who had died hadn't even reached this figure.

He knew all too well that every Blood God warrior was an elite among elites. Losing so many at once felt like a dagger to the heart. And what hit even harder—those guarding the passage now were largely members of his Ironblood Regiment.

"Those bastards!" Ma Shan roared.

The vice commander knew his temper. "Commander, now's not the time to lose your head. Something's very wrong this time. For some unknown reason, these abyssal creatures emerged from the main passage's seal. That hasn't happened once in thousands of years. That's why our brothers were caught off guard and had to self-destruct. We need to hold this line until the Corps Commander and the Blood Gods arrive."

Ma Shan's breathing grew unsteady. Though his temper was known to be fiery, he genuinely cared for his men. The soldiers of the Ironblood Regiment respected him deeply. Hearing so many had died—likely a third of his regiment—how could he remain calm?

"I'll kill them all!" Ma Shan roared, swinging the massive spiked mace from his back. The vice commander tried to stop him but couldn't hold him back.

Just then, a figure suddenly appeared beside them. A man—no mecha armor, just a bare hand pressing lightly on Ma Shan's shoulder—and the massive black mecha froze in place, unable to surge forward.

"Ma Shan, you damn brat, calm down. This is not the time to lose it. The situation is serious, yes. But you need to get your men under control." The low voice carried a commanding aura that instantly brought Ma Shan to his senses.

"Corps Commander... you must avenge our brothers!" Ma Shan's voice trembled. It wasn't sadness—it was fury, pushed to the brink.

"Understood." Zhang Huanyun patted the mecha's arm. "Go. Get your people organized. You'll get your turn to fight."

"Yes, sir!" Ma Shan saluted, then withdrew with the vice commander.

The situation was dire. No one could explain why the abyssal creatures had suddenly emerged from the main passage. That was the key issue. If it wasn't solved, the abyssals would pour forth endlessly. No matter how deep their energy reserves were, they would eventually run dry.

The abyssal creatures could not be truly killed. Their energy regenerated, and so did they.

Zhang Huanyun was confident in holding the line—for now. With the Legion's resources, they could keep the defense intact for three months. But after that?

What made this assault different from previous ones was that a monarch had appeared.

The Six-Clawed Demon Emperor ranked near the bottom among the 108 Abyssal Kings—but that wasn't the point. The problem was that it had arrived in its true body. That was impossible in the side tunnels.

Six thousand years ago, humanity had placed seals to block the arrival of the abyssal monarchs. Without those monarchs, the Blood God Legion and the Blood Gods alone could handle everything easily.

But now that the Six-Clawed Demon Emperor had arrived in the flesh, would more powerful monarchs follow?

No one knew just how terrifying these Abyssal Kings truly were.

To a being with high enough cultivation, the soul-guided beams and artillery posed little real threat.

"Should we request reinforcements from the Federation? Ask for help from the Spirit Pagoda and War God Temple?" Xue Yi asked Zhang Huanyun.

"The call for help has already been sent," Zhang Huanyun said grimly. "But it won't be quick. Even the War God Temple would need ten days to arrive. And the real issue is that we don't know what's wrong with the seal. Even if reinforcements arrive, it'll just be a war of attrition against the abyssal creatures—and that's where we're at a disadvantage."

Xue Yi's expression tightened.

Below them, abyssal creatures poured out like a tidal wave. No one knew how many monarchs might emerge later. But without entering the tunnel, they couldn't see what was wrong with the seal or how to fix it.

This crisis had come too suddenly. They had no time to prepare.

"Let's wait and see. Aside from the Six-Clawed Demon Emperor, if no other monarchs show up soon, we'll attempt a scouting operation," Xue Yi said grimly. It was clear that responsibility would fall on him.

Zhang Huanyun nodded. "Rest for now. I'll call you when it's time."

"Alright." Xue Yi didn't say more. He retreated to the outer perimeter and sat down with several other Blood Gods in meditation, quietly waiting.

The Blood Gods' years of drills for the abyssal passage were paying off. For now, at least, the abyssal creatures had no chance of breaking through.

The 20,000 soldiers of the Blood God Legion had all arrived in the area, ready to rotate with those on the front lines. Those not currently in combat were all seated in meditation.
