Waves of dazzling light surged through the air. Down below, the Black Empress's face was cold, devoid of emotion.
In her eyes, Gu You's figure was continuously expanding. As those shimmering strands of light injected into his body, he rapidly grew until he stood over ten meters tall. The Golden Dragon Spear in his hand also expanded accordingly. Though it was only him, suspended high above the battlefield, under the support of the Blood God Grand Array, he exuded the aura of a warrior who could hold back ten thousand foes on his own.
The Black Empress suddenly waved her hand. The mass of deep sea creatures that had paused now surged up again, swarming toward the exit of the abyssal passage.
Under Zhang Huanyun's command, all soldiers of the Blood God Legion unleashed their full power once again. Instantly, beams of light and waves of cannon fire formed a massive net of destruction, locking down the path the abyssal creatures were using to emerge.
Gu You gripped his Golden Dragon Spear and looked down. As the abyssal creatures began to fall one by one, a bizarre phenomenon emerged.
Threads of abyssal energy, rather than retreating back to the Abyssal Plane as they usually would, shot directly toward Gu You, forming a vortex centered around the Golden Dragon Spear. The energy rapidly poured into it.
This powerful torrent of energy surged into Gu You's body, intensifying the multicolored radiance that surrounded him. His body expanded further, and with a subconscious thrust of his spear, a streak of golden light tore through the abyssal ranks, annihilating scores of enemies. All of them dissolved into energy and were absorbed once more by the spear.
Under the amplification of the elemental spirits, Gu You's physical endurance had soared. It was as if he had acquired an additional, colossal body—one that absorbed the overflow of energy his own frame couldn't handle. His aura grew ever more potent by the second.
Gu You could clearly feel that the energy he now commanded was comparable to a demigod. And with the protection of the Tree of Life and the elemental spirits, he had no fear of his body breaking apart under the strain.
As torrents of energy surged toward him, Gu You mentally channeled them into the Tree of Life within his sea of spirit. He retained only a small portion for himself.
Indeed, while the Tree of Life didn't care much for raw energy, it still accepted everything he passed to it. This tree wasn't just sentient—it possessed an uncanny intelligence. It understood Gu You's intention clearly.
…
With the aid of the Blood God Legion's advanced technology, the situation was entirely stabilized. After absorbing the immense abyssal energy, Gu You's soul power level soared to Rank 88. And this was just from the portion he kept—had he absorbed what he gave to the Tree of Life, he might already be at the peak of Rank 89.
The five abyssal emperors still had not made a move. They dared not advance further.
This wasn't because they lacked confidence. It was because the closer they came to the passage's exit, the more intense the suppression from the Douluo Continent's plane became.
Six thousand years ago, the sages of the Douluo Continent paid a tremendous price to construct the Blood God Grand Array. After thousands of years of refinement, the array's ability to summon elemental spirits had become extraordinary. And now, with the Tree of Life feeding back potent life force, the array was no longer limited by the energy reserves of its blood priests.
The Black Empress furrowed her brows, staring intently at Gu You, who was releasing wave after wave of golden spear strikes while absorbing abyssal energy. Although the abyss could still afford the current losses, this was a direct depletion of their world's origin. And the fact remained—two abyssal emperors had already perished.
Her mind racing, the Black Empress's eyes radiated killing intent so intense it nearly became tangible. No wonder even the long-slumbering Abyssal Saint had awakened and gone to great lengths to force open the main passage. Humanity truly had birthed a being capable of threatening the existence of their entire realm. No matter what, that threat had to be eliminated while it was still growing.
Yet she didn't act immediately. Even though the four other abyssal emperors beside her were eager to engage, she remained coldly patient, waiting for the right moment.
With the Blood God Grand Array in its current state, any direct assault had little chance of success. The plane's suppression was simply too strong. Even with her power, she could only guarantee a safe retreat—nothing more. And if another abyssal emperor died, their world's origin would suffer another critical loss.
But the opportunity would come. And when it did, it would be time to decide the war in a single, final battle.
The Black Empress raised her hands. Threads of black silk twined around her fingers, forming a net-like structure in midair. These threads continuously devoured the ambient abyssal energy, channeling it into the rift behind them.
The rift opened and closed, expanding and contracting in rhythm. Under pressure from the Blood God Grand Array, it would shrink. But the relentless push from the abyssal plane caused it to swell again, like two opposing tides locked in a tug-of-war. More abyssal creatures began to emerge.
Two more abyssal emperors crawled out of the rift. Though none were on the Black Empress's level, the number of high-tier abyssal beings was clearly rising.
Blood One remained calm as he manipulated the grand array, coldly observing the developments. He no longer felt concerned. With the array now fully operational, any attempt by the abyss to maintain the rift would come at a huge cost. Though the abyss might recycle its energy, converting it into new warriors would take time.
If they couldn't break through the seal, this battle would severely damage the abyss's vitality—perhaps so much so that it wouldn't be able to stir again for millennia.
Meanwhile, Dragon Tianwu, deputy commander of the Blood God Legion, had complex feelings.
As a senior officer, he fully understood the nature of the Blood God Grand Array. And yet now, a single man—Gu You—was sustaining the array at this level. That meant, plainly, that so long as he remained alive, the abyss would never breach the passage.
Without doubt, after this war, Gu You's reputation would soar beyond measure—surpassing even the famed Zhang Huanyun when he was of similar age. Back then, even Zhang hadn't been capable of single-handedly holding the line against the abyss.
If Gu You were willing, Zhang Huanyun would gladly hand over command of the Blood God Legion. No one would object, because no one was more qualified.
Thinking of this, Tianwu's gaze swept the crowd—seeking out his daughter.
Soon, he found her.
'My daughter… you truly chose well.'
