Chapter 377 - When the Dead Began to Run

Outside the City of Emiya, the Knights who had been closely monitoring every change within the city moved the moment the magic barrier activated.

They assembled with practiced speed.

Armor fitted. Formation tight.

The captain of the Falmouth Kingdom's Regular Knights stepped forward, his presence heavy with confidence born from long service and real strength. He raised his sword and roared.

"Act according to the plan. Charge!"

"Charge!"

Under his command, more than a hundred Regular Knights of Falmouth advanced in unison, their horses thundering as they surged toward the City of Emiya.

"They're Knights!"

Kirara Mizutani, sitting on the ground, heard the familiar sound of hooves. Her eyes widened, and she shouted with sudden excitement.

"Over here! We're over here! Hurry, save us! Monsters are attacking us!"

"What? Attacking humans?!"

The leading Knight captain shouted back, his voice deliberately exaggerated.

"We received reports that monsters have formed a nation and came to investigate. We didn't expect chaos like this!"

He raised his blade high.

"In accordance with human law, we will protect innocent civilians!"

"In the name of human law and God, we accept your request!"

With those words, the Knight captain lowered his sword, and the Knights surged forward, their intent clear.

They would cut down the monsters in front of them.

"Tch."

Shion's brows knit tightly as she watched the Knights rapidly close the distance.

The situation weighed on her.

Not because the enemy was too strong.

But because of Rimuru's wish.

As Rimuru's secretary, Shion understood better than anyone his desire to coexist peacefully with humans. He had worked for it. Planned for it. Believed in it.

And yet, here they were.

This war could not be stopped.

After today, she didn't know if Lord Rimuru's wish would still have a place in this world.

"You bastards," Shion shouted, her voice sharp with fury, "you've wasted Lord Rimuru's efforts!"

She raised her greatsword, killing intent surging.

"Don't be rash, Shion. Now isn't the time for a head-on clash."

Shuna's voice rang out from behind.

"This barrier restricts our strength. We can't change the battle alone right now."

She took a breath, steady despite the danger.

"Leave the judgment to Lord Shirou. He should be ready by now."

Compared to Shion, Shuna was far more restricted by the dual barriers. As a full-time mage, she was effectively defenseless at the moment.

Several Hobgoblins stood around her, weapons ready, their eyes sharp as they guarded her closely.

"That's right. Leave the rest to us."

New voices cut in.

Emiya Shirou and the others stepped forward, appearing beside Shuna and the group.

"Lord Emiya!"

The tension that had gripped Shuna, Shion, Gobta, and the others eased the moment they saw him.

They believed in him.

Firmly.

The man before them would lead them out of this situation.

"You all did well."

Emiya Shirou smiled as he spoke, his tone calm and steady.

Then his gaze shifted.

The trio of Otherworlders.

The charging Knights.

"Make them stop."

"Yes!"

At his command, Orc elites carrying massive shields moved to the front. They planted themselves firmly, shields locking together to form an unyielding wall.

Behind them, Hobgoblins raised bows.

Orcs hefted throwing axes.

The next instant, arrows and axes flew.

The forces gathered around Emiya Shirou numbered fewer than a hundred.

But they were elites.

Warriors drawn from different races, tempered by real combat.

The Monster Federation alone had nearly a thousand B-rank Orcs, but most were not stationed in the city. The Orc race was numerous, their territory spread wide.

Emiya Shirou had distributed his blessings evenly among the nearly hundred present. None of them had fully recovered to their peak.

Still, their overall strength remained at C+.

Combined with elite armor and discipline, their combat power was no weaker than the Knights charging toward them.

The Knights had not expected organized resistance.

The first wave of throwing axes and arrows struck them head-on.

There was no preparation. No hesitation.

In the blink of an eye, more than a dozen Knights were torn from their horses, bodies crashing to the ground.

"Bastards!"

The leading Knight captain roared as rage flared across his face.

"Accelerate! Charge!"

The Knights pushed their mounts harder, forcing their speed to its peak.

The distance vanished.

"Spearmen, attack."

Emiya Shirou's command fell cleanly.

Long spears shot out through the gaps in the shields, their tips aligned, aimed straight at the charging cavalry.

The collision was instant.

Human Knights slammed into heavily armored monster warriors.

Blood sprayed across the street.

The monsters held.

Shields braced, bodies anchored, they endured the full force of the charge.

Behind them, spearmen and longsword users moved without hesitation.

They began the slaughter.

Arrows continued to rain down from the rear, volley after volley, ensuring the Knights behind were not spared.

No one was left untouched.

"They really don't take us seriously."

"Charging heavy armored units inside a city. They aren't afraid of death at all."

"Using horses against shield walls like this. What idiots."

"Shield bearers, don't forget your potions."

The most critical role belonged to the warriors at the front.

They absorbed the impact.

Even as bones cracked and organs ruptured, they held the line.

The injuries they sustained would have killed humans long ago.

But they were monsters.

Their life force was strong enough to keep them standing.

Barely.

They would not last long like this.

But in the Monster Federation, injuries were not feared.

As long as they did not die on the spot, recovery potions would see them restored.

Fearless attacks broke the Knights' morale.

Their formation faltered.

Their will collapsed.

They no longer dared to fight.

Seeing the tide turn completely against him, the Knight captain made his decision.

Retreat.

He had no regrets.

His mission had never been victory.

Chaos was enough.

Blame would fall on the monsters.

That alone would give the Western Holy Church a legitimate reason to intervene.

The objective had been achieved.

As the Knights pulled back, the captain shouted loudly, his voice carrying through the streets.

"This town has been polluted by monsters!"

"We, in accordance with human law, as children of God who believe in Luminas, do not recognize this monster nation!"

"Therefore, we will negotiate with the Western Holy Church through proper procedures to determine how to deal with this country!"

"The time is one week from now!"

"The commander will be the renowned hero-King Edmaris himself!"

He did not stop.

"If you are willing to surrender, then so be it!"

"We will guarantee your lives in the name of God and allow your continued existence!"

"Do not resist unnecessarily. Surrender at once!"

"Otherwise, you will be annihilated in the name of God!"

With that, he turned and fled with the remaining Knights.

The three Otherworlders followed.

Shogo, badly injured, ran at the front.

Kirara and Kyoya followed close behind, desperate to escape.

Emiya Shirou watched Shogo's back as he fled.

His eyes narrowed.

He projected Rimuru's Bow.

Then the Spiral Sword.

He drew.

Aimed.

Released.

The arrow flew.

"Boom!"

Shogo, running at the very front, had no time to react.

His head exploded instantly.

Kirara, running behind him, felt something warm and sticky forced into her mouth.

She froze.

Then she saw it.

The scene ahead.

Her scream tore through the air.

"Ah!"

"Shut up!"

Kyoya roared beside her, blood splattered across his face.

"Run! If you slow down, you'll end up like Shogo!"

Kirara Mizutani bit down on her fear.

Tears streamed down her face as she ran.

"Lord Emiya."

Shion watched the retreating Knights, her expression dark.

"Are we really letting them go?"

She still wanted to fight.

Emiya Shirou smiled faintly.

"Don't bother."

"They're already dead."

"At most, it's just a matter of dying sooner or later."
