Petra retreated to her bedroom, her fingers pressed tightly into her ears as she settled into a chair.
“Urrrgh!”
Yet Gareth’s agonized cries pierced through the sturdy walls of Liepherr Castle, echoing relentlessly throughout the entire fortress.
“Mother!”
The sound was so sharp that it felt like it could rend one’s eardrums.
Petra clenched her lips tightly, struggling not to hear it.
“Dear…”
Duke Liepherr, fully armored, followed Petra into the room, his face a pale reflection of his distress.
He silently implored her to step outside and see what was happening.
“I will not go out.”
“But dear! Gareth is our son!” the duke pleaded with desperation as if he was ready to fling the castle gate open and take the punishment in place of his son.
“No, we cannot fall into that girl’s trap.” Petra cut him off again.
“Motheeerrr! Please save me!”
Gareth’s piercing screams persisted.
