Don deflated for a moment, stabbing his fork into the tiny pancakes. Then, as quickly as the mood dipped, his eyes lit up again. "Can we buy him some olliebolen? Like… a whole bag?"

Betty couldn't help laughing. Always thinking of his father. Always craving that connection. "Of course. I'm sure he'll like it. He barely has any time to eat as it is," she said gently. She reached for her cola.

"Now eat your snacks and stop talking," she added, smoothing her voice into mock sternness.

Don gave her a cheeky grin, nodded, and attacked his plate again.

"Kate, I am going crazy here. Are we just supposed to let that woman make Alex treat us like this? He doesn't care about you anymore. He hasn't even called. He barely notices me, either. It's humiliating."

Kate sat with the composure of a queen on her throne She smiled. "I learned a few things while married to his father," she began.
