Iris POV
Luna Selene drops to her knees before her father. Her dark cloak pools around her, and her hands clasp together as she looks up at him. His broad body towering over her. His eyes, cold and emotionless, burning with barely restrained fury.
"Father, please," Selene says again, her voice low but steady, carrying a plea that makes my throat tighten to see how far she's going to make me stay. "Just listen to me. She's no threat. She's alone, wounded, and terrified. We can't turn her away."
Her father turns abruptly, as he stalks toward the wide window at the far end of the hall. The first light of dawn spills through. Selene scrambles to her feet, her cloak rustling as she follows him, her steps quick but measured. Her hands are still clasped in front of her.
"Father," she tries again, her voice softer. "It's for humanity's sake. If we turn our backs on those who need us, what does that make us? We're a pack, yes, but we're more than that. We have to be."
