Chapter 4 - Way down we go

As he apleared on the train tracks he looked around for explanation but soon his explanation showed itself as someone appeared on the track as a blur.

"You're one of those metafreaks... get away from me!" He yelled as he starting running away.

"Not so fast pussy boy." He said as he appeared in front of him lifting him by the throat.

"W-what do you want?" He asked as the grip was crushing his throat.

"I want the location of tom, now." He said.

"I-i don't know!" He yelled.

In the distance a horn can be as a train approaches their spot. He turns to the train holding the boy in front of himself.

"Are you insane!?" He asked.

"Yeah." The speedster answered.

"That will kill us!" He yelled.

"Im pretty confident i can outrun that thing and even in the off chance i trip and get hit I'm durable enough to run at near mach speeds, i think i can take a train." He explained.

The train quickly approaches now less than 100 feet away and quickly approaching.

"Give me the answer or you will give it to the train." He demanded.

He hesitates as he hears the train getting closer and soon he feels the vibration of its approach.

"He'sbeingkeptinprotectionbythecompanyheworksfor!" The boy said quickly as the train was right behind him.

The train passes by them as he's dropped beside the train tracks. He falls to the rocks as wind gishes through the area.

"Where does he work?" He asked.

"I-it's SinisterByte." He said.

Just like that he disappeared in a blur leaving the boy with the racket of the train. A moment later the doors to SinisterByte fly open as a silver blur rushes through. He ran up the stairs like a bullet causing the winds that come off him to make a deep howling noise in the stairway.

(The information i need is probably at the top floor since the upper echelons of businesses tend to be pompous, thankfully i have enhanced stamina.)

He gets to the uppermost floor and flies through the ceo's door using the key he yanked from the lady at the front desk. He sits down and begins searching the desk for the password to the computer. He finds the password and opens up the computer. He flies through the files and notes with his superspeed, he finds an article named 'V.I.T.A.L'. He clicks on it and finds the subject list.

(So Tom is a participant in this program, where is this then.)

He scrolls through the files even more and before long finds the location. A "military" base about six miles outside of town, heavily guarded both by personnel and tech.

(How am i supposed to break into that place for one guy that's gonna be killed anyway.)

He sat there pondering his situation when the door flies open and a small device rolls into the room. He looks over at the commotion and the device erupts into a cloud of thick smoke. A swat team rushes into the room guns ready and thermal vision active. Their eyes immediately lock on to an impossibly bright humanoid shape.

"Light the meta-freak up!" The leader shouts before a barrage of bright flashing lights are seen.

His body crackles with blue lightning and the world slows down to a crawl, all except for the bullets that fly at him not fast but not slow either. He ducks down and rushes to the side of the room free of the trajectory of the bullets.

(Realistically at these speeds i should be bullet proof but in the off chance im not i dont plan to leave my blood record here)

He rushed down the room and out quickly making his way down the stairs and out of the building. A moment later the men drop their guns as they feel the singe of lightning on the back of their outfits.

He stops just in front of a house opening the door and walking in. Inside he finds the old lady and some other family members sitting in their living room.

"Im sorry but i wont be able to do it tonight, it appears hes being kept safe within a military base." He explained.

"Oh, that's okay dear when is the soonest you can do it?" She asked.

"Tomorrow night." He said.

He leaves the house and returns home and plops down on the couch, the lightning dies down and soon disappears as he reaches for the remote. The remote clicks as the news comes on, the screen flashes another meta-human crime.

(Crime rates have risen drastically since the first meta-humans appeared a year ago, and all of them choose crime. Its pretty ironic that we have the phrase 'crime doesn't pay' when in fact it does and being a hero does not)

He lays down on the old couch and closes his eyes as the news plays and slowly drifts into the darkness every human enters. In what seems like no time for him he wakes up once more but to the two faces of his whole world.

"Bubby can we go to the park?" She asked as she gently shook him awake.

"Augh what time is it?" He groaned as he got up.

"I dunno." The kids said.

He grabbed the remote turning on the news displaying a fire caused by a pyrokinetic meta-human. He looks over at the part of the news displaying the time.

"Its five in the morning..." He said as he rubbed his eyes.

"Is that too early?" She asked.

"... no, no its just perfect." He said as he got up and grabbed hos jacket.
