Chapter 42 - Is That Coffee For Me?

The moment I stepped out of Leo's office, my entire body felt like it had short-circuited.

Daniel Carter.

Daniel freaking Carter.

He's here.

I forced myself to walk normally heels hitting the floor at an even rhythm back to my desk. I sat down. Straightened my posture. Put my hands on the keyboard.

And did absolutely nothing.

My screen blurred. My pulse wouldn't settle. Every few seconds, my eyes drifted toward Leo's office like a magnet I couldn't fight.

Leo noticed, of course.

Because two seconds later, with a soft mechanical hum, the blinds on the office window slid down automatically, blocking my view completely. Like a giant middle finger made of tinted glass.

I stared at the newly closed blinds.

"…seriously?"

I clicked my tongue in annoyance.

Fine. Whatever. I didn't need to see him anyway. I needed to think.

I rested my chin on my hand and tried to dig through the fog in my memory.

That park and that boy, or the way I used to call him,

Nope. Nothing.
