Chapter 10 - The Guard

Chapter 10

------

" …!!!!"

Sergia stood stunned for a moment, confusion flashing across his strong face, before he muttered slowly:

"Hahaha, how can I kill our benefactor?

But when he saw my eyes fixed on him, and the strong determination to die burning clearly in them, he stammered and didn't know what to say.

I looked at him seriously and firmly, and said in a decisive tone:

"I'm serious, Mr. Sergia. If you kill me now, I'll give you five thousand gold pieces."

Sergia looked at me with amazement mixed with suspicion as he thought about it. Perhaps he thought I was trying to trick him or that I was crazy, so I took a small gray bag from the folds of my clothes and threw it on the ground in front of him.

When the bag hit the hard ground, Sergia heard the faint clinking sound of the gold coins inside. I looked at Sergia and saw that he was staring at the bag silently, his eyes shining with a strange gleam. Then Sergia slowly raised his head and said in a cautious tone:

"Why are you so sure I'll do that? Maybe I'll take the gold and kill you here, and no one will ever know what happened."

When I heard his words, I smiled a small, sarcastic smile and said calmly:

"Mr. Sergia, Mr. Sergia, I really want to die. That's all I wish for!"

I don't know, maybe it was because of his average intelligence or the confusion caused by suddenly seeing such a large amount of gold in front of him, but Sergia couldn't think clearly and said those words. But it didn't really matter, because in the end, I would achieve my goal and finally die, either by his hand or someone else's.

After a short silence, Sergia said:

"How do you want to die?"

Hearing this question, my smile widened and I said enthusiastically:

"Anything... by sword, strangulation, breaking my neck, the important thing is to die by your hand, using your strength as a knight."

As I spoke, I pulled away the thin black cloth that was hiding something and gradually untied the ropes with even more anticipation. A minute later, I took out a sharp, shiny sword that I had stolen from someone else a long time ago and threw it at him on the ground.

Sergia grabbed the sword with obvious tension.

I looked at him and said calmly:

"It's okay, you don't need to stain your sword with my blood. I stole this sword from someone else, and it's fine to use it to end my life."

Sergia looked at the sword silently for a long moment before raising his head and saying hesitantly:

"Are you sure about this?"

I said seriously and firmly:

"Of course, sir!

When Sergia heard my decisive words, he gripped the sword tightly in his strong hand and slowly stepped forward, ready to end my life. Seeing this, I raised my thin neck and looked up at the dilapidated wooden ceiling and thought sarcastically:

"Death in a small room in an unknown village, huh? But that's okay, I'll settle for that."

Sergia arrived in front of me, raised his sword high, and swung it with deadly force.

At that moment, I felt the sharpness of the cold blade and its mysterious power that seemed about to cut my throat, and I felt a sudden ecstasy erupt throughout my entire body. Perhaps it was the ecstasy of achieving my long-awaited goal, or perhaps it was my instinct warning me of imminent danger. I don't really know, but it didn't matter anymore. When I felt the cold metal against my skin, I thought the sword had finally cut off my head, but once again, my plan had failed at the last moment...

"Master Sergia!"

At the crucial moment, the dilapidated door to the room suddenly burst open, and another guard rushed in. When the guard saw Sergia raising his sword to kill me, he stepped forward with lightning speed and stopped him.

The guard shouted in alarm and anger:

"Sir! What the hell are you doing!"

I slowly opened my eyes and saw Sergia looking nervously and confusedly at the guard standing at the door, not knowing what to say to justify his disgraceful behavior. Surely he wouldn't tell the guard that the young man standing in front of him had paid him a large sum of gold to kill me, would he?

When I saw this absurd scene, I cursed for the thousandth time the stupid obstacles standing in the way of my noble goal, but I couldn't leave Sergia to face this situation alone. After all, I was still alive, and I rushed to help him die.
