Synopsis
I thought I was just a regular assistant working my way up in a cold skyscraper office. Until my new boss stormed in….tall, ruthless, and with the same sea blue eyes I once swore I'd never forget. He left me ten years ago. Disappeared without a word after a secret wedding under the stars. Now he’s back...and he owns the company I work for. Oh….and did I mention I’m engaged to his younger brother?

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I knew the universe hated me. But I didn't think it would be this dramatic about it.

I was three sips into my overpriced coffee, pretending to care about office policies, when the elevator doors opened—and there he was.

Maxwell Jordan.

Same sharp jaw. Same storm-colored eyes. Same soul-stealing silence.Except now he was in a black suit, and the air shifted the second he walked in. People straightened their backs like he could fire them with a glance. Maybe he could.

He didn't look at me. Just walked past. I tried to breathe.

Ten years.Ten goddamn years.

And now he's here. Alive. In my building. Breathing my air. Looking like everything I swore I moved on from.

My fingers curled around my cup. I wanted to throw it. Or scream. Or throw him.

But instead, I sat there. Quiet. Frozen. Like the girl he left behind.

"New CEO," my coworker whispered next to me. "He's taking over the whole CrossCorp division. Guy's got ice in his veins."

Yeah. I knew.

I stood up slowly, I needed air or alcohol. Where can I get a time machine. But before I could escape, a voice behind me slid straight down my spine.

"Daisy."

I turned. Maxwellswas watching me. Like he'd never stopped.Like the last ten years were just a long blink. My heart cracked against my ribs.

He took one step closer. Then another.

And then, with the audacity of a man who disappeared the day after our wedding, he said—

"Working under me now, huh?"
