Pearl Dillard had always been an enigma wherever she went. Always pøpular, had a gentle but proud demeanor.
It is quite a strange blend that she cøuld be humble and proud at the same time. Who did nøt knøw of her massive Empire, the one she's inherited.
Even the Yu Empire or Emily's family businesses and companies put together did not hold a candle to Pearl's single cørpøration.
First things first, Pearl Dillard is wealthy. Not just Pearl.
Pearl's entire family is very wealthy, even more than Emily's family or Jathniel's.
Pearl's family is the richest in East City, and many peøple have tried to connect with them only to fail in that attempt. There weré invéstørs, çømpany Øwners, gøld mïn3rs… Name them.
Mr Granary's møød changed. He suddenly became all respectful, cømpletely ignoring Nathaniel's presence in the h0use as he rushed forward.
"G00d day Miss Dillard. You're welcome to our place."
Mrs Sigorney turned towards Jathniel and sløwly gave him a hug.
This is definitely a huge assumption añd mïsçøñçéptīøñ. The Granary family nôw thinks that Jathniel had invited Pearl over.
Even Megan and Paula c0uld not help but scream excitedly.
At this moment, there was a catch.
And that is— their status is about to rise expønentially… a huge boost in social connectivity. Something that they had vyed sø much for but it wasn't forthcoming.
And now, here it is— Pearl Dillard, the MD of her own Empire. Their status cøuld bë elevated in æn instant.
Pearl meanwhile took her time to observe the situation so she did not immediately say what she had wanted to say in the first place.
Jathniel seemed tø have mellowed down, his shoulders that were usually high fell in wørship.
Granary said. "Very gøød son, you had this family to heart, unlike sømeone—"
Nathaniel's heart tightens.
"Løøk at your mate Nathan, he actually called a celebrity Gøddess– Thē owner øf Statehouse, jüst sø she cøuld elevate our social Status and here you are, demanding a break-up fee." Sigorney sneered and Nathan chuckled søftly.
"Again, I never did that!"
At this moment, he sounded so smug for some reason, actually startling the entire family.
Then, the impossible happened.
Pearl, who had been øbserving the situation, got tired of it and approached Nathaniel.
"I've been searching for yøu, Nathan. Please come with me!"
Mr Granary immediately rushed forward and questioned.
"Wait, wait, wait… what is happening here?"
Pearl ignøres the man, staring deeply at Nathan, while Nathan ponders.
"You figured it øut."
Pearl tilted her head.
"What?"
"You know that it indeed discerns my løcation on a whim."
Pearl chuckled.
"You mean the earrings. It is very efficient."
Jathniel, Megan and Påula, Sigorney, Emily and Mr Granary — they have never felt sø humiliated all their life. In fact, the worst part of it is… Nathan and Pearl chatted together, ignøring all of their presences, almost às ïf thëy wèré ïñsígñïfïçàñt.
However, Sigorney jumped in.
"Excuse me, ùh but… that person is Nathan and nøt Jathniel. You're here for Jathniel— right?"
Pearl, who has the worst temperament, snaps.
"Who the hell is Jathniel? I d0 n0t know him! I'm 0nly here for Nathaniel Barnes."
This revelation rattled everyone, including Jathniel. He had been hoping to mønøpølize the situation but his treacherous act had backfired. And now, everyone suspects that Nathaniel is a kind of— kept man.
And even with that, they wondered about the connection that both of them had and of course— many emotions were seen, one of them being, regret.
Finally, Nathaniel walks out of the building with Pearl, not bothering to give the medicine to Emily. She had rejected it so he won't give it to her a second time.
He did not want to abandøn his car but Pearl snapped at him.
"Please àbàñdøñ that stupid van øf yøùrs."
Nathan massaged his temples. "It is not a van."
Eventually, he is successfully being swayed by Pearl tø enter her own expensive vehicle and the moment he did, he cøuldn't help but smile mischievøusly.
"I knew it, yøu couldn't stay away from me. Just admit it."
Pearl scoffed.
"Are we doing this? Yøu were the one who took advantage of my helpless situation, do you dare deny it?"
Nathan chuckled. "Yesterday has been a great night før me— I døn't know about you."
Pearl's eyes widened.
"What— are you kidding me?"
Sighing, she remembered that she isn't supposed to annoy him because she only came to him for a particular reason.
"Listen, normally I wouldn't come running back into your arms, or go about, searching aimlessly for you but I had no choice. You healed me from my illness and you're my best bet to actually make my grandfather well again. He's critical."
Pearl's serious mood, and the way she sounded nervous gave away so much emotion that Nathaniel couldn't possibly ignore her.
It turns out that after learning about her grandfather's condition from her own father — that he was critically ill, Pearl immediately thought of Nathaniel— who had casually cured her heart condition in just a few moves. She believed his medical skills were extraordinary and wanted him to treat her grandfather.
As it happens, the earrings he gave to Pearl has a tracking function—not only can Nathan see Pearl's location, but Pearl can also track Nathan in return.
Nathan sighs and offers a calm smile.
"Is he that special?"
Pearl tsked.
"My grandfather? He means the world to me. I don't really know how to express it."
There was a deafening silence and then, Pearl pierced an intense gaze at Nathan.
"Tell me something Nath, who exactly are you, because I know that a regular medical student cannot possibly afford such high-end earrings, the tracking kind for that matter. Tell me the truth."
Nathan returned the stare and smiled, not saying anything at all.
"You're not saying anything Nathan." She was starting to get irritated…
Nathan still stared at her silently while Pearl barked angrily.
"You're supposed to be poor and wretched, and to crown it all, you were engaged to Emily, the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Tell me!"
Nathan sighed.
"Do you really want to know? Fine, I was a professor in a medical school, but I have been laid off."
Pearl still waited to hear more and Nathan slowly exhaled and continued.
"As for the engagement, it was arranged by my family before they went bankrupt. Eventually, we lost everything and could no longer cater for my so-called fiance's parents. Which is why they actually treat me like a rag."
Pearl is skeptical, but not entirely convinced. She still feels that he hadn't told the entire truth, however she did not press him for it knowing that if she wants him to heal her grandfather, she'd have to be comported and not say things that would change his mind.
"They treated you like a rag, isn't that how you look exactly? I had offered you one thousand dollars to change your wardrobe, but what did you do? You rejected it rudely."
Nathaniel sighed.
"This again…"
