"A skill point?" Scratching my cheek, I tried tapping the Overdrive skill. Nothing happened. Not even a prompt.
"...Maybe there's a specific condition?" I hummed. Looking at the statue, I started praying. Then, I offered more coins.
"No?" Not seeing any reaction, I decided to try other things. Offering food. Gold ingots. A diamond sword. I even cut myself and dripped blood on the statue.
Nothing happened.
Groaning in frustration, I left the shrine, heading toward the nearest river. Unlike in my Minecraft world that felt infinite, I only had to walk for a few minutes before reaching the river. It was shallow, but clear.
Looking at my skills again, I thought about Overdrive. It was how I deactivated Thunder Heart Jutsu before, but strangely…
"It's not working?" Already annoyed, I almost went and fetched out my flint and steel. The nearby trees were looking extra flammable today.
"What am I doing wrong? Do I… oh."
I remembered something. When I first came to this world, I encountered that Uchiha who almost turned me into a roasted player. Back then, he used hand seals. Do I need to do those too?
"Uh, but… I don't know any hand seals… wait no, I know one!"
Grinning, I pressed my hands together and formed the tiger hand seal.
[Hand Seal: Tiger - Slight boost in Fire and Earth Chakra]
[Hand Seal detected. Set up hand seals for "Overdrive"? One slot remaining. This cannot be undone.]
"Oh? I get to customize them?" Seeing the prompt, as well as the boost from the hand seal, I tutted. "I don't know any other hand seals… uh, how about this?"
Changing the positioning of my hand, I waited for a prompt. Nothing. Again—
[Hand Seal: Ram]
"...nothing? Just that? I might as well use the tiger hand seal," scoffing, I tried another hand seal.
[Hand Seal: Snake - Slight boost in Earth and Lightning Chakra.]
"Hell yeah!" Grinning from ear to ear, I tried more variations with my hands. Dusk quickly approached.
Unfortunately, the only other hand seal I accidentally discovered was the boar hand seal, which didn't give any buffs.
[Hand Seal: Boar]
With no other choice, I went back to the Overdrive jutsu panel.
[Hand Seal for "Overdrive" set. Remaining slots: 0]
[Active Ninjutsu detected, chakra pool activated.]
[Overdrive - lvl1 (hand seals: snake): HP+2, Basic Attack+4, Weapon Attack+2 | 1 chakra per second.]
A rush of information entered my mind, both things I can understand and things I don't. The daze didn't last long, and soon I was greeted by my inventory.
[HP: 22 | Saturation: 19 | Chk: 22]
"Is it the same amount as my max health?" I raised an eyebrow at the idea. If that were true, then I'd need to find ways to up my max health… I wonder if the extra health from golden apples counts.
That aside, with 22 points of chakra, I can only use Overdrive for 22 seconds! How is that usable in battle?
Brows furrowed, I formed the snake hand seal. "Overdrive!"
I blinked. I could see the leaves falling around me, they almost seemed like… feathers. Then, the sound of river flow entered my ears… that too sounded strange.
I moved my eyes. Or at least, tried to—but even that felt slow.
Does the jutsu slow down time… oh wait, no. It should enhance my perception! Overdrive, it makes sense now.
Turning off the jutsu, the world felt normal once more. Looking at my chakra bar, only three points were deducted.
"It's somehow letting me think faster… or something close. Now that's useful!" I licked my dry lips. In a fight, reaction time is really important.
Even if I can regenerate health, each regeneration takes at least one second. If the enemy drops my HP to zero before that… Well, game over.
A growl entered my ears. Instinctively, my hand was placed on my stomach—I was hungry. But, that shouldn't be. My saturation was full just now?
Looking at my saturation bar again, I was even more confused.
[Saturation: 18]
"The consumption is normal… Why am I hungry?"
Scratching my head, I took out cooked chicken. However, the more I ate, the more surprised I got. By the time my saturation wouldn't go any higher, my mouth was wide open.
[Saturation: 42]
"What… happened?"
Whatever happened, I didn't mind. The only thing I want to know now is if my actual hunger bar increased.
After that, the day passed peacefully. Since I didn't know if the shrine would still be important, I decided to build my base around it. I had no plans on going back yet, not until I had no choice.
This was a chance to get an abundance of resources. Not just tangible ones, power, techniques, everything is accepted.
Setting that aside for now, I chopped down some trees from afar. I didn't use the treecapitator mod, as it ate XP. I didn't have much of that right now. Because of that, I had to chop the tree the old fashion way—by letting it fall over.
I could do it the Minecraft way and chop the tree from below to up, but it was a race against time. Just like in the Minecraft world, trees here don't just float once you chop one block. It would—for a few seconds, until physics returned.
Anyway, with more than enough wood, I built a simple house in front of the shine. I tried copying the shrine's design to keep things pleasant. Well, the result wasn't the best. But it will do.
Now that I had a base set up, a thought suddenly appeared in my mind. What would happen if I made another portal while in this dimension?
I didn't have the obsidian for it, and I wasn't about to tear down the one I came from. However, I remember that very first portal I came through…
I just had to find it.
"Ah, I need to visit Kinko. Maybe he can help me with a map," I whistled a tune, walking out of my house.
There, in front of the shrine, was a man with long brown hair, his eyes pale like two orbs of snow. Instincts had me equipping my sword and armor in a flash, and with a quick glance at my inventory, my shield materialized out of thin air too.
Let this be an easy battle—was my wishful thinking.
