Zakaria's younger brother stormed back and forth across the length of his room, his chest heaving with anger, the phone pressed tightly to his head. His face was flushed with rage, and sweat trickled down his forehead, not because of heat, but because his carefully laid plans had unraveled right in front of him. His mind replayed the moment over and over the hospital, his brother lying on that bed, the family grieving, the doctors already declaring there was no hope everything had been perfect, everything had gone exactly the way he had planned. And then Cecilia walked in. That woman, that thorn, had undone everything with her calm words and unshakable confidence.
