At that moment Dr. Kai leaned back in his chair as he spoke, fully expecting to hear laughter on the other end. He thought Zakaria's younger brother would mock the family's downfall, that he would gloat about his brother's condition, that he would revel in victory. Kai's smile widened, waiting for the chuckle, the sarcastic remarks, the satisfaction that usually followed their schemes.
But what came through the phone instead froze the smile on his lips and sent a shiver racing down his spine.
"Keep your mouth shut," Zachariah's younger brother hissed, his voice sharp enough to cut glass. "Don't say another word unless you want me to lose my anger on you. Do you hear me?"
Upon hearing what he just said Dr. Kai's eyes widened, confusion flickering across his face. He sat upright now, no longer comfortable, no longer confident.
