Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Land of the Chosen

Sure enough, it was very quiet in the shrubbery, with an unexpected world within.

There weren't many weeds, and it was evident they had been deliberately cleaned up; only at the edges of the shrubbery was there dense grass.

Even the shrubbery itself had some of its lower branches and leaves cleared, creating a space about twenty centimeters high. Looking around, it almost seemed like entering a highway in the Gray Rat kingdom.

Perhaps this was the effort of the Gray Rats to dominate this area.

In such an environment, even the Black Snake Sentinels would find it difficult to ambush someone.

However, every advantage has a disadvantage, as at this moment, Wang Wu rushed into the shrubbery without any hindrance.

If Gray Rats were heavy cavalry, then he could probably be considered a heavily armored tank.

Quickly, as Wang Wu charged in several dozen meters, a gently flowing stream appeared before his eyes, which, for someone hungry and thirsty like him, was like an angel's smile.

After a cautious glance around, Wang Wu jumped into the stream and drank copiously.

The stream wasn't fast-flowing, nor were there any dangerous creatures, and the dense shrubbery shielded against aerial threats. This place was genuinely excellent, like a prime piece of land chosen by the heavens.

After drinking to his heart's content and quenching his thirst, he unexpectedly gained 50 points of satiety.

It seems food and water sources are included together.

Not daring to linger, Wang Wu continued searching for those red berries, as his time was limited.

Searching downstream along the creek, he quickly heard a series of threatening chirping sounds. Ah, he found it.

The stream took a sharp turn here, forming a large alluvial plain, a wide grassland like a hidden paradise within the shrubbery, about half the size of a football field.

Diverse wildflowers bloomed here, along with red berries. These didn't grow on shrubs, but rather on strawberry-like plants, growing in clusters like hanging rubies.

Some were green, some were pale yellow, clearly not yet ripe.

It was a large patch, with obvious signs of deliberate cultivation.

Here, there were four Gray Rat farmers standing guard.

"Squeak squeak squeak!"

These four creatures emitted a series of strange cries, stomping and baring their teeth, seemingly trying to anger Wang Wu to lure him away.

But Wang Wu ignored them and rushed forward, frantically picking those ripe red berries.

As for those four Gray Rats, ha, only four of them; he wasn't afraid at all. Yesterday it was at least fifteen Gray Rats charging at him in turns to topple him.

These four Gray Rats obviously understood this; apart from making useless squeaks, they couldn't do anything.

After all, who could have expected such a shameless guy to come and steal berries at this time?

"What a pleasant surprise!"

After eating just one red berry, Wang Wu was so excited that he almost shed tears.

One berry alone increased his satiety by 10 points, and the red berries tasted genuinely sweet, as if containing the cool morning dew, like eating chilled watermelon. It wasn't just refreshing—it was beyond description.

Of course, Wang Wu also kept track of time, lest he be surrounded by those Gray Rats.

After eating dozens of red berries in one go, his satiety also reached 300 points, the maximum amount of food he could consume.

He then picked another five as snacks and refrained from greed; he turned and ran.

Emerging from the shrubbery, he saw that the sunlight on the cliff had reached the Silver Stage and was about to end. All the little demons were focused entirely on absorbing the free-floating golden particles in the sunlight. The scene was both awe-inspiring and mysterious.

Wang Wu took just one look and immediately turned around, running toward the territory of the Black Snake Race. Today he couldn't hide under the big tree of the Spider Race because he had made a big mess, and the Gray Rats wouldn't let him go.

Choosing the lesser of two evils, it's better to return to my rock crevice.

Actually, he wanted to return yesterday too, but there was no chance.

After sprinting all the way back, he managed to crawl back into that familiar rock crevice before the Silver Three Minutes ended. After lying there for three seconds, he entered the Level 2 Passive Concealment state.

He planned to spend the entire day like this.

Whether or not he could rely on this Level 2 Passive Concealment to resist detection from the Black Snake Sentinels, he didn't know.

But today, he had reached 300 points of satiety and actually had plans to stir things up in the Black Snake territory.

Because this rock crevice limited the possibility of a collective assault by the Black Snake Sentinels.

As long as it was one-on-one, with his satiety in hand and a Level 1 Healing Talent, fighting for over a dozen rounds wouldn't be a problem.

As for whether the leader of the Black Snake Race would take action, Wang Wu could only gamble, after all, that was a giant snake as thick as a barrel, while the widest upper area of this rock crevice was only twenty centimeters.

In short, it was worth the gamble for him.

But he had just entered the Level 2 Passive Concealment state here when suddenly a strong wind picked up in the sky, followed by the piercing cry of an eagle.

Even though Wang Wu was hiding deep inside the rock crevice, he felt an uncontrollable, pants-wetting fear.

His heart raced and he trembled, lacking the strength to flee; his four little paws were limp.

Almost simultaneously, several bold red messages appeared.

[Your Level 2 Passive Concealment state has been broken, you have been discovered by a more powerful presence.]

[You have been locked on!]

[Due to your lack of value, the target has given up locking onto you!]

...

Immediately after, Wang Wu struggled to lift his head, and through the crevice, he saw a huge dark shadow flying across the sky, its massive talons, comparable to an anchor, clutching a black giant snake at least thirty meters long and as thick as a barrel, soaring into the air.

The black giant snake twisted and writhed frantically, but to no avail.

The strong wind dispersed, and the gigantic shadow vanished, leaving the valley as though it had experienced a cataclysm.

The frail old tree where the Spider family lived had many branches broken by the wind, and the shrubbery kingdom of the Gray Rat was also flattened. Who knew how many little demons were dead or injured in this wave?

Wang Wu felt extremely unsettled and horrified in retrospect.

If today he were like yesterday—battling with the Mantis Blade Masters, dominating alongside the Gray Rat, or merely hiding under that old tree to lie low—he would have been skinned alive, if not dead.

That black giant eagle's level, whether it's a Great Demon or Mid-level Demon, was unknown, but with just a rise and fall, it could capture the leader of the Black Snake Race alive. That level of combat ability made Xiong Xiong despair.

In fact, even now, Wang Wu felt his body still limp, his heart pounding hysterically, with a primal terror swirling in the depths of his mind.

However, he had the soul of a human. Despite being utterly terrified, he realized this was an excellent opportunity.

So, even though his body still trembled and the shadow of fear hovered around him, he forced himself to crawl out of the rock crevice and took a look outside. Wow, not far away, there were the corpses of seven or eight Mantis Blade Masters and one Gray Mouse Knight that seemed to have been stunned.

A rare opportunity not to be missed!

Gritting his teeth, Wang Wu rolled and crawled out, first grabbing those Mantis Blade Master corpses, then leaped to crush the stunned Gray Mouse Knight, dragging it back to the rock crevice.

He had originally intended to continue scavenging for food, but then there was a sudden explosion from the top of the cliff, with a burst of flames spreading out like fireworks, mixed with several shattered Black Snake bodies.

Peeking out for a look, wow, the Flame Scorpion King had taken advantage of the Black Snake Race leader being taken down and directly led his minions over.

Spitting out one fireball after another, wreaking havoc above with swaggering might.

Can't afford to provoke this! Can't afford to provoke!

Wang Wu immediately retracted himself.
