Chapter 9 - 9. Buying a gun

Leaving Wei'er's Pawn Shop, Li Wei first securely placed the blue and white porcelain vase, then returned to the driver's seat.

Just as he was about to start the car, he saw Jessica staring at him with a face full of curiosity.

"Jessica, if you have anything you want to ask, just ask directly."

"Li Wei, why didn't you haggle with the boss just now? Is the market price for ambergris between 120 us dollar and 140 us dollar per gram? And those two vases look weird, why buy them?"

Li Wei had long anticipated Jessica's question, so he had already prepared his answer mentally.

"First, the reason I didn't haggle with bald Wei'er is that there was no need. He earned that money through his skill, and besides, the price he offered wasn't low."

"Second, regarding buying these two vases, you should know my major, so I'm quite interested in items with an Eastern charm. Besides, their price wasn't expensive."

Jessica nodded thoughtfully after listening.

"So that's how it is. I remember seeing quite a few similar vases at your house when we were kids, and we even accidentally broke some back then..."

Li Wei's thoughts were instantly pulled by the girl's words into the depths of the original owner's childhood memories.

As he continuously recalled the original owner's childhood memories, he really did remember quite a few related ones.

His family indeed had quite a few antique porcelain pieces before, all left by the original owner's great-grandfather. However, after the original owner's grandfather passed away, the original owner's father sold off most of them to pay the inheritance tax.

The remaining ones, because no one cared about them, were either damaged or were thrown away somewhere unknown.

There were quite a few vases just broken by the original owner.

Thinking of this, Li Wei felt immense heartache.

If these things were still around, in a few more years, they could easily sell for a high price. Yet, they were just ruined by "himself" like this.

However, thinking about his current situation, the boomerang ultimately hit himself.

"Damn inheritance tax, damn IR."

Li Wei suppressed the complicated thoughts in his heart, no longer dwelling on these troublesome matters, and turned to Jessica in the passenger seat, saying:

"Jessica, what do you want to eat tonight?"

"Li Wei, aren't we going back to Point today?"

"Driving at night is too dangerous. We'll stay in Anchorage for a night today and head back tomorrow morning."

Jessica listened and nodded in agreement.

They needed to pass through a large area of primeval forest to get back, and it was indeed not very safe at night.

"Then we'll stay at your place tonight?"

"We won't stay there. No one has lived there for a long time, and it's too much trouble to clean up. We'll find a hotel to stay in tonight."

"Okay, you're the rich person, I'll listen to you."

"..."

Li Wei started the pickup truck, and the F150 pickup drove forward along the road.

When turning a corner, Li Wei's gaze was attracted by a shop sign.

This was a gun store called "Freedom Defense".

The moment he saw the gun store's name, Li Wei remembered a phrase circulating online in his previous life.

"Free Eagle Country, gunfights every day!"

This was not a joke.

Not everyone had Chuan Bao's luck.

He remembered that before he transmigrated, the 78-year-old Chuan Bao was still waving a red flag, directing his "young generals" to continuously charge towards "Haha Sister".

He didn't know if Chuan Bao ultimately won the election.

If Chuan Bao won, there would definitely be no shortage of fun in the future.

If Chuan Bao lost, there would only be more fun in the future.

This was probably the thinking of most 'fun-seekers' on the Chinese internet.

The F150 pickup truck slowly stopped at the entrance of the gun store.

"Jessica, I'm going in to buy some guns. Are you coming in with me, or waiting in the car?"

"I'll go with you, and besides, I'm already over 18 years old now."

Li Wei didn't know why Jessica said it so confidently. Seeing that she also wanted to go in, he said directly:

"Then let's go in together. If there's a gun you like, I'll buy you one."

"Really! Li Wei."

When Jessica heard Li Wei was going to buy her a gun, her face was full of surprise.

A while ago, when she was tidying up newspapers, she saw a small pink handgun and wondered if this store sold it.

Thinking of this, she felt a little excited.

Li Wei had no idea about the girl's thoughts. His mind was completely focused on guns at the moment.

In his previous life, he only experienced the feeling of using guns in games. Now that he had transmigrated to Eagle Country, if he didn't buy a few guns, he would feel uncomfortable all over.

In fact, the original owner had a commemorative M1911. He was in a hurry to catch a flight at the time, so he stored it in his University of Southern California apartment. As for the original owner's parents' service pistols, he placed them in the coffin to be buried with them. Only a few old guns with worn-out rifling were left at the farm.

While thinking, Li Wei pushed open the glass door of the gun store.

As soon as he walked in, the first thing that came into view was an M2 Browning heavy machine gun.

Don't ask him why he recognized it; next to the heavy machine gun was an introductory sign and a price list for the experience.

Written on it in bold black font was:

Two us dollar per shot.

20% off for one hundred shots.

30% off for two hundred shots.

The more you buy, the bigger the discount.

Further into the gun store were rows of shelves displaying a variety of outdoor gear.

And the innermost part was the essence of the gun store, the counters displaying various firearms.

In four large glass counters, a large number of guns were displayed – long, short, thick, with scopes – it could be said that everything was available.

Just as Li Wei was carefully examining the guns inside,

A white middle-aged man quickly walked over.

"Folks, what can I help you with? I'm David Spencer, the owner of Freedom Defense. You can call me David."

"Hello, David, I'm Li Wei. I plan to buy some guns, mainly for self-defense and hunting."

Li Wei said truthfully.

This idea wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision.

North Star Farm is located outside Point, more than twenty kilometers from the town. If an emergency occurs, he needs enough weapons to protect his personal safety.

Hearing Li Wei's words, a hint of joy flashed across David's face.

This young man in front of him looked like a big customer.

Although selling guns seems like a profitable industry, the reality is not like that.

The real money is made by arms dealers and gun stores in major domestic cities, where there are many people, complex environments, and guns and ammunition sell better.

Although Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, its total population is only over 200,000. With this population base, it's not easy to make money by selling guns.

If it weren't for selling outdoor gear and ammunition, this gun store would have gone out of business long ago.

Thinking of this, David's gaze towards Li Wei became increasingly fervent.

"Li Wei, although my gun store isn't the largest in Anchorage, it's definitely the one with the most complete variety. Even if we don't have a gun in stock, I have channels to get it for you."

"Do you have a Barrett?"

Li Wei blurted out upon hearing this.

"Barrett???"

god was stunned by the first request.

However, as a retired veteran, he immediately realized what Barrett the other person was talking about.

"Buddy, are you talking about the Barrett M82A1?"

"That's right, that's the gun."

David couldn't help but glance at Li Wei in front of him, thinking to himself, you use an M82A1 for hunting at your place? One shot might just blow off half of a brown bear's body.

Thinking that his store didn't have this gun, he could only truthfully inform him:

"Sorry, we don't have this gun in stock. If you want to buy it, I can arrange for someone to get one for you, but it will take a while and require an extra fee."
