Chapter 13 - Fayre vs. Rune (Part 1)

The explosion rattled the building, worrying the surviving heroes that it might collapse. Fayre opened her eyes to a blurry world. She soon found that it was thanks to the blood stained across her face. She looked over to where the explosion had hit, learning that they lost nearly all of the reinforcements they had brought with them, as well as a member or two of the Heroes Council.

It was a bloodbath. Everywhere she looked, there sat dismembered organs stained by the quickly forming blood rivers on the ground.

Yet still, Fayre got to her feet, conjuring her own energy to launch at the floating menace. As she did so, she screamed at him.

"Bastard!" she said through a mixture of rage and tears. "You just murdered dozens of people in one damn shot! Don't you have any morals?!" He quickly dodged her shot before replying.

"It is my life's goal to bring down any and all heroes I see," he said. "You're just the first step."

This just appalled Fayre even more. She continued to shoot energy blasts at the man, her rage beginning to cloud her precision. Even when she was precise, though, he still managed to dodge every single one of them.

She continued to grunt and attack, overwhelmed by the situation. Rune, clearly fed up with her behaviors, began to counterattack. He started firing energy blasts of his own, allowing a fusion midair that deflected both sides' attacks.

However, he finally got the leg up when he launched a blast nearly three times larger than all of his others. It barreled through the air, right towards Fayre. She attempted to dodge it, but it was too late. She simply sat there and accepted her fate.

However, to her utter shock, the energy did not explode. In fact, it formed a sort of forcefield cage around Fayre, imprisoning her.

It might not've been the end, but it certainly was far from over.
