The television showed only static. Their father, a company man, sat hunched, remote in hand, lips tight.
"The government says it was a magnetic anomaly," he said, eyes still locked on the flickering screen. "Some kind of event—global. They're calling it the Singularity Pulse."
Anthony watched his phone slowly reboot. Emergency bulletins poured in:
"Worldwide Surge Linked to Unknown Atmospheric Phenomenon." "Stay Indoors Until Further Notice." "Citizens Reporting Unnatural Physical Changes."
His fingers buzzed faintly as if something beneath his skin had awakened.
Across the globe, others were discovering it too. Some could ignite flames with a thought. Others shattered mirrors with their screams.
Whatever had arrived, it had changed everything.
