Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Another chance

"Miss?" A thick male voice spoke as his hand caught a hold of her arm and curved around her waist.

She quickly looked up to see who the person is when she caught a man's eyes in a thin silver framed glasses looking at her directly in the eyes. Her lashes fluttered. she almost fell again even in his arms.

He quickly grabbed her tight by the waist making his grip tighter than he first held her waist. His eyebrows raised as his eyes began to search for answers to her situation.

As if remembering something, Riley quickly held on one of his hands to raise herself up, getting her acts together she quickly bowed slightly to apologize for bumping into him.

"I'm so sorry to bump into you sir. I'm so sorry." She turned towards the other direction running after the professor. She hasn't settled her case with him yet. Her final project has totally been ruined which is the pass to graduating in the next few months.

"Excuse me?" The man called again in audible voice. You dropped something.

"Uhh?" Riley looked back again to see what she dropped as her eyes scanned toward the direction of his fingers.

"Oh! I'm so sorry." She quickly collected the flash drive from him in a rush without a glance at him and bowed slightly again. "Thank you!"

The man lifted an eyebrow trying to understand what type of situation just happened. The second man standing beside him quickly called to his attention.

"Ceo Moore? They are waiting for us."

"Hmm. Let's go." He ordered.

The two men made their way outside to the entrance of the hall.

In few minutes, Riley knocked on the professor's office door. The second hand is placed on her chest as she tries to catch her breath.

"Come in." Immediately the professor answered, Riley opened the door slowly in a polite manner and closed it without making a sound.

"Professor Nathan? I'm so sorry. Please give me a chance to present my project again." She pleaded with him.

Professor Natan sighed. "You know there's no time for this. You're graduating in the next few months, today is the deadline for students to present their project."

"What were you thinking? Today of all the days to be late?" Professor Nathan Scolded.

Riley squeezed her eyes shut. Hoping there would be a way to turn things around she stood there waiting for the professor to finish what he was doing.

"You know, you're incredibly lucky. There's still a chance for you to make up for your final project." The professor said while typing on his laptop.

Her eyes lit up at once immediately she heard what the professor said. "Professor…... Nathan?" She called slowly while staring at him with her eyes wide opened in amazement.

"You have to work as an intern." Professor Nathan announced. "A vacancy is available at FX architects. The program is for students. And it's only for two months."

"Thank you, Professor Nathan." Riley smiled slightly. She must go through months of vigorous work due to what happened to her project file. Not like she has any other choice to make up for it. She bowed again to appreciate the professor.

As Riley stepped outside the office and sighed. She began to think about how the presentation turned out.

In split seconds, she thought of how the file disappeared from the flash drive. Stoping in her steps she squeezed her fist.

"Zoey, you've gone too far this time." She quickened her steps folding her arms while bitting her lower lips.

She came out of the door to the entrance of the hall and Riley stopped in her steps again still bitting her lips. She sighed as tears filled her eyes. She really feels a big headache while massaging her forehead.

"Riley! Over here." A loud male voice was heard calling her over.

Riley tried to find where the voice was sounding from and looked straight ahead. A little bit farther from the entrance.

"Mason?" Riley wiped her tears quickly as her eyes widened. She wasn't expecting him to wait for her.

She quickly ran over to him with her eyebrows raised. "Why are you still here? Didn't you leave earlier?"

"No. I was waiting for you. How was your presentation? Did you meet up with them?" Mason asked with a slight smile while his eyes lit up with expectation.

"Mason, I couldn't present my project." Riley looked up at him as her eyes is filled with tears. She has been fighting back the tears for a while.

Mason who's back leaned on the motorbike quickly raised himself up with his eyebrows raised in confusion.

"What do you mean? Wh…what happened? His eyes dulled with a gloomy expression as he waited for her to answer.

Riley sniffled as she wiped the drop of tears from her cheeks. "I'm fine." She found her voice and replied with a slight smile.

"What do you mean by you're fine? Something big happened, right? Tell me. Did the professor make any statement?" At this point he was already getting worked up with lines appearing in between his brows.

"I couldn't present." Riley replied bluntly. Mason's eyes widened in shock at once. "I couldn't find the file for my project on the flash drive. It's totally empty." Riley announced and sighed after.

"W…what? But how? You've been preparing this project for almost three months now. I remember you didn't have a free time to yourself and stuck to preparing your material." Mason chimed in.

"Well, I guess I have a very big enemy on my side." She smiled.

"This is not a joke. It's a really big issue. What did the professor say? Uhh?" Mason asked while holding one of her arms.

"It's all good. And I guess I'm very lucky to have been pardoned. All I have to do is complete a two-month internship training." Riley declared with a smile.

Mason sighed with relief. But still couldn't relax. He hugged her head since he is much taller than her. "I'm sorry." He whispered.

"Hey, I'm fine. You don't need to worry. I'm a strong girl." Riley struggling to leave his embrace.

"Every strong girl needs her supporter." Mason said as he pats her head before releasing her.

"Thank you for bringing me here. I really don't know how to thank you enough." Riley smiled.

"Hm, if you're really willing to thank me, then buy me a meal." He chuckled as he uttered those words.

As the chat went on, Riley remembered something and quickly hit his arm slightly.

"But, what about you? Didn't you have something important to do?" She asked him in rush while holding his arm tightly staring at his face for answers. "Ah, did I just interrupt your work?" Riley covered her mouth as her eyes widened in shock.

"I'm so stupid to let you bring me here without thinking about you." Riley squeezed her eyes shut for a bit before hitting her forehead with force.

"Hey, don't do that. You're hurting yourself." Mason Brown scolded with worry while grabbing her hand as his brows furrowed.

"You didn't interrupt anything. I was on my way to the studio to finish up some stuffs that's all nothing important." Mason confirmed.
