Alucard turned and left. Scarlett, one hand covering her neck, breathed softly. After Alucard's ship had slowly disappeared into the distance, she finally recovered from the feeling she'd just experienced. She couldn't help but curse out loud at the ship that was long gone.
How can a man be like that?!
Viola had planned to sneak away, but she accidentally kicked a small stone on the path. The light sound caught Scarlett's attention, and she turned her head just in time to see Viola trying to make a small escape.
"Viola!"
Scarlett was furious. Alucard's disgusting behavior had already driven her mad, and now finding out her sister was following her was like a volcanic eruption.
Hearing her older sister's voice, the escaping Viola mechanically turned around, forcing a smile. "O-Onee-chan, what a c-coincidence…"
A dark aura seemed to radiate from Scarlett. "A coincidence? What are you doing here?"
Viola saw there was no getting out of this. She let out a strange laugh, trying to play it off. She pretended to be admiring. "Onee-chan, that was so romantic! A princess and a pirate parting ways with a kiss, just like in a novel!"
"A kiss?!" Scarlett's eye twitched. She wanted to scream 'Bullshit!'
What did that bastard think she was?
His lover? Scarlett felt more like food.
Besides, he didn't kiss her; he bit her neck.
Suddenly, Scarlett realized her sister Viola had run off while she was lost in thought. She roared in anger and quickly chased after her.
....
Three days later, New World waters.
Opening the newspaper, Alucard saw there was still no news of his meeting with Kaido and Charlotte Linlin.
They knew about it but deliberately hid it. Was it to save face, in case they couldn't stop the situation from happening in the future?
The Era of the Four Emperors in the future was still eight, or even ten, years away. But because of his intervention, it would likely be achieved within five years.
Nothing was certain, though. Alucard knew that things in this world were constantly changing, and the Marines and the government would surely take action.
While Kaido and Charlotte Linlin were busy expanding their territory, Alucard's focus was on expanding his River of Death.
Before leaving Dressrosa, he had already set his sights on a target from the newspaper.
A war between two countries in the New World: the Kingdom of Laguna and the Kingdom of Rephar.
These two nations were currently at war.
To be honest, in this world of islands, a country was often just like a big city in Alucard's past life.
Dressrosa, for instance, had only a few thousand soldiers in total. It seemed small-time, but of course, Dressrosa was a poor country, so it was to be expected.
The average country had a population of around twenty thousand, which was just enough to satisfy Alucard's appetite.
Of course, Alucard was also envious of Golden Lion Shiki and Redfield, who were currently imprisoned in Impel Down's Level 6.
But he wouldn't make a move without a solid plan.
He had plenty of time, so he would take things slow.
Unlike the war on the Rulusas Continent that Alucard had intervened in, Laguna and Rephar were two neighboring countries on the sea, separated by about thirty nautical miles. So the war between them was fought with ships.
Waiting for the two armies to fight and then jumping into the middle of it, like he had in the past, wouldn't work.
In a naval battle, ships were easily sunk, and all the "food" would sink into the sea, rendering Alucard's actions meaningless.
This time, he was being more direct. He would attack one country at a time, wipe out one side, and then deal with the other.
Alucard first targeted Rephar, for the same reason as Dressrosa: it was closer.
The military camps for a naval battle were temporary military bases built on the coasts of the islands.
A week later, Alucard arrived at the Rephar Kingdom. That morning, the news had reported that Charlotte Linlin had led the Big Mom Pirates to conquer a small country.
"The old woman works fast."
Alucard casually tossed the newspaper into the sea and landed on the island, sensing his surroundings with his Thermal Vision.
Rephar's military base was on the northwest coast, while he had landed on the southwest. They were a considerable distance apart.
But there were patrol soldiers everywhere. It was a basic military tactic to send out scouts and prevent the enemy from ambushing from behind.
"I'll take them out one by one, like a tourist."
Alucard pulled out his twin pistols from under his coat. This kind of easy battle didn't even require him to take off his sunglasses.
Five minutes later, a patrol squad of about twenty Rephar soldiers, all in gold uniforms, suddenly heard a noise and immediately went on high alert.
BANG!
With a gunshot, a blue flash appeared, instantly putting a hole in one of their foreheads.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The bullets kept firing, popping one head after another.
"The enemy has a gun! Everyone, take cover!"
The squad leader shouted. The remaining dozen or so soldiers quickly hid behind trees.
BANG!
However, the shooting didn't stop. The bullets easily penetrated the soldiers' cover, be it a tree or a rock, and went right through their heads.
"H-How can this be…"
The squad leader gritted his teeth in hatred, unable to comprehend what was happening. In a panic, he started shooting wildly.
Of course, he couldn't hit anything.
BANG!
A bullet went through his head, and the entire twenty-man squad was wiped out.
About half a minute later, a man in a crimson coat emerged from the jungle opposite. It was Alucard. He held his white pistol, Casull, to the side of his head and chuckled to himself. "Playing a shooting game once in a while isn't so bad."
