Eriri's evasive look was undeniably cute, and once again, Lucien D. Blackthorn's heart was unintentionally moved.
He smiled softly and said with sincere warmth, "I think you're really cute, Sawamura-san. Honestly, I don't think you're any less attractive than Kasumigaoka-san."
Eriri blinked, stunned for a moment before her face turned slightly red. Being praised so directly made her heart flutter—though her tsundere pride wouldn't let her show it easily.
She crossed her arms and huffed, "I didn't know you were such a smooth talker, Lucien. So tell me, how many girlfriends have you had already?"
Lucien chuckled and shook his head. "None. I've been single since birth."
"Eh? Really?" Eriri was caught off guard. Her eyes widened with surprise, followed by a teasing smirk. "I wouldn't have guessed that. You're the type girls usually fall for."
She tilted her head slightly and added in a playful tone, "So... what type of girls do you like? I bet you go for those calm, elegant types—like Kasumigaoka-senpai with her long black hair and mature aura, right?"
Lucien paused for a moment, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm... long black hair and elegance are certainly attractive..."
"I knew it," Eriri mumbled, frowning slightly. "No wonder actresses like Sakurajima Mai are called the national girlfriend. That black-long-straight vibe is unbeatable... and her figure's just—ugh."
As she spoke, her confidence wavered. Almost instinctively, Eriri reached up and lightly touched her own chest—then froze in embarrassment and quickly retracted her hand.
Lucien noticed and raised a brow with a teasing glint in his eye. "Sawamura-san... what was that little move just now?"
Blushing, Eriri turned her face away. "N-Nothing! Don't change the subject!"
Still flustered, she tried to regain her composure. After a beat, she said, "I think someone like Kasumigaoka-senpai would definitely like a guy like you. You're smart, talented, calm... you're her type."
Lucien smirked playfully. "Oh? Are you trying to play matchmaker, Sawamura-san? Planning to introduce her to me?"
"Hmph! I don't even know her personally," she scoffed, puffing her cheeks slightly in defiance. "But... if you're that eager, I could probably find a way to arrange something."
He laughed softly and shook his head. "Of course I admire girls like Kasumigaoka-senpai... but if I'm being honest, I think I like tsundere girls more."
He looked her in the eyes as he said it—deliberately.
Eriri froze.
!T-Tsundere?"
Her thoughts scrambled.
"Wait… he said he likes tsundere girls… Does he mean me? Could he be implying something?"
But then she quickly dismissed the idea.
"No, no way. I haven't even shown that side of myself around him… right?"
Eriri, being a textbook example of tsundere behavior, only truly acted that way around people she was deeply familiar with. Maybe Lucien hadn't noticed yet?
Trying to probe deeper, she asked hesitantly, "Isn't dealing with a tsundere girl… kind of troublesome?"
Lucien didn't hesitate. "Maybe. But I don't mind at all."
He leaned back and added with a calm smile, "Girls with tsundere traits are incredibly charming. Dating someone like that would probably be filled with surprises... and I think that's beautiful."
"…I-Is that so…" Eriri murmured, averting her eyes, a small smile creeping across her lips. Her ears turned bright red.
The atmosphere suddenly grew quiet—charged with something unspoken.
Lucien realized he may have crossed a line, teasing her too much.
Maybe he should dial it back. If she got too flustered, she might stop visiting.
And besides…
> "With my body like this… I don't even know how long I have left. Love, dating… these things probably have nothing to do with me anymore."
The words slipped out almost too casually, but they shifted the mood immediately.
Eriri snapped back to reality and looked at him, her expression turning serious.
"Don't say that," she said firmly, her voice trembling slightly. "You'll get better. I believe in you, Lucien."
Lucien met her eyes and smiled gently. "Thanks… I appreciate it."
The awkward tension from earlier dissolved. Neither pushed the subject further.
Instead, they shifted to talking about work—new drafts, ideas, designs. It was comfortable again, like the old rhythm.
Soon, the sky began to darken outside the hospital window.
Eriri glanced at the time and stood. "It's getting late. I should head back."
Lucien nodded. "Alright. See you tomorrow, Sawamura-san."
"Yeah… See you tomorrow."
As the door clicked shut behind her, Lucien exhaled slowly and closed his eyes.
He shifted his consciousness inward—into the space tied to the system that now governed his life.
