Chapter 9 - Echoes of a Daughter, A Rival's Deceit

"You dare call me irresponsible?" I yanked my arm from Julian's grasp, no longer caring about the spectators gathering around us. "You weren't there when she took her last breath. You didn't hold her tiny hand as it grew cold."

Julian's face paled. "What are you talking about?"

"Violet is dead, Julian." The words escaped my lips like poison finally being purged from my body. "Our daughter died three months ago. On her birthday. While waiting for you to show up like you promised."

The color drained from his face. "You're lying."

"Why would I lie about our daughter's death?" My voice cracked, but I forced myself to continue. "She died alone in that hospital bed because her father couldn't be bothered to keep his promise. Not even on her birthday."

Julian's amber eyes widened with shock, his mouth opening and closing without sound. Around us, pack members whispered and pointed. Some looked genuinely horrified, others merely entertained by the drama unfolding.
