Chapter 58: Anti-Entropy's New Script
A few years ago, Schicksal had dispatched a young woman to its Oceania branch. Some of the staff there, relying on their seniority, looked down on the new director sent from headquarters. In their eyes, she was just a young, timid, yellow-haired girl.
But soon, reality proved them wrong. A soft voice did not equal a weak personality, and headquarters would never dispatch a useless person.
"Teacher, it's been a long time since you last called me." The woman on the other end of the line had shoulder-length, jellyfish-cut hair that graded from ink-black to green. She wore a white blouse and a form-fitting fishtail skirt that revealed only a sliver of pale skin at her ankles, with a pair of light-green high heels dangling from her feet.
"Wendy, how have you been lately? Are those old relics in Oceania still giving you trouble?" Ya Qing asked with his usual concern.
"Teacher, I barely had to use the tricks you taught me before they all collectively surrendered," Wendy couldn't help but laugh.
"Those old relics are exactly the same as the ones at headquarters. A bunch of cowards who bully the weak and fear the strong," Ya Qing said with a smile, but his eyes were fierce, like a beast before a hunt.
"Teacher, this bunch has been deeply rooted in Oceania for decades. I can't completely uproot them quickly. Just give me one more year..." Wendy's eyes turned sharp, her rumored gentle demeanor vanishing completely. She looked like another Ya Qing, copied and pasted.
"Don't put pressure on yourself, Wendy. They're the ones who should be feeling the pressure."
"I know, Teacher," Wendy replied. "Teacher, did you call me today for instructions? Or has the Board of Directors at headquarters caused trouble again?"
Ya Qing teased, "What? Can't I call my adorable disciple just because?"
"Teacher!!!" Wendy's cheeks flushed red.
"Alright, alright, no more joking around. I actually do have something to trouble you with," Ya Qing's tone gradually became serious.
Wendy's posture straightened as she sat up formally.
"My division has been officially confirmed to be entering the entertainment industry. I assume you've already seen the newly released movie?"
"Yes, Teacher. The President sent an email to every branch, giving all employees time off to go see the movie, with all expenses covered by Schicksal headquarters," Wendy said, her eyes curving into crescents.
"How come I didn't know about that?" Ya Qing was baffled. If it was every branch, why hadn't he received the news? Could it be that the Far East branch was still under Theresa's jurisdiction?
"You didn't know, Teacher?" Wendy was confused.
"That's not important. Since you've seen it, you should know the plot. I based this animated movie on real people," Ya Qing said.
As expected of Ya Qing's student, Wendy understood his meaning at once. "Teacher, are you saying there will be a character for me?" she asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Yes, that's right." Ya Qing then briefly explained Wendy's storyline.
Wendy's expression went from initial surprise to silence, then to a frown, and finally to her current state of speechlessness.
"Teacher, I don't care that you wrote me to be so tragic. I don't care that you made me a villain. I don't even care that you killed me off."
Wendy then got to her main point: "But, in both reality and the plot, I am Bronya's senior, right? So why would I call her 'big sister'?"
"Perhaps... Bronya's tiny body made you feel a long-lost love?" Ya Qing said offhandedly.
Wendy controlled her temper. "Teacher, just send the voice-acting script to my email. I'll find time to go to a recording studio. What's the latest you need it by?"
"No rush. After Christmas."
"Alright, Teacher, goodbye."
"I..."
Wendy hung up the phone, not caring if Ya Qing had finished speaking.
Ya Qing wasn't angry. He knew the little brat had lost her composure, which instantly lifted his mood. He stood up, stretched his limbs, and removed Wendy's character art from the pile Patrick had drawn.
"Now that the mid-game villain is confirmed, the final villain of this movie would be... Cocolia..."
"Another problem."
Ya Qing now had two main issues.
The first was how to get Cocolia to accept this script, given that it portrayed her as an unscrupulous villain who would even experiment on children.
The second, and more difficult, point was that just getting the character of Cocolia to appear in the movie would cost Ya Qing a fortune.
It was rare to see someone who held onto money so tightly. At Anti-Entropy, it was Cocolia. At Schicksal, there was one too: President Otto's secretary, Amber Apocalypse.
The difference was, at Anti-Entropy, Cocolia had the power to veto the decisions of the chairman, Welt Joyce. But at Schicksal, Otto's word was law. Forget Amber, even the Board of Directors and the three great families combined couldn't overrule Otto's decisions.
The price for this was that every time Otto left behind a mess, Amber had to clean it up. Whenever Ya Qing saw that his rightful dividends had been reduced, he knew President Otto was up to his old tricks again.
"Looks like I'll have to find old Yang again."
Ya Qing took a sip of his coffee.
Far away in North America, Welt Yang suddenly sneezed.
"Yang, did you catch a cold?" Dr. Lobster-Head asked with concern.
Welt Yang rubbed his nose. "No, I just feel like someone's talking about me. By the way, Tesla, what's your new script about?"
"It's..." The mere mention of her new tokusatsu script made Tesla bubble with excitement.
After listening to Tesla's script, Welt frowned. It wasn't that there was a problem with the plot, but rather that Anti-Entropy Entertainment didn't have enough actors. Tesla's tokusatsu script was almost entirely male characters.
In their previous show, Arahato, Joyce himself had played the lead, and the team members were just Tesla and Einstein. Anti-Entropy was too poor. Special effects were expensive, leaving almost no money to hire actors.
"Tesla, innovation is a good thing, but we don't have this many people," Welt Yang said helplessly. With Cocolia guarding the funds like her life depended on it, how could she possibly approve more money to hire actors?
"Then what do we do?" Tesla's mood deflated.
"Let's just focus on filming the ninth season of Arahato for now," Welt Yang said, resigned.
On the top floor of Schicksal's Far East branch, Ya Qing turned on his computer and looked at the comments. The movie's theatrical run had ended today, and it had also been released on streaming platforms. The number of comments was staggering.
"Amazing! Make a sequel, quick!"
"Cecilia... I'm crying my eyes out. Do people like this really exist in real life? Rushing into a battlefield to save people... when Otto told her the missile was about to be launched, her first thought wasn't for her own safety, but sadness that she couldn't save more people. She's really... I'm bawling."
"If there really is a sequel, who will be the protagonist?"
"It has to be Theresa!"
"I don't think so. I feel it's more likely to be little Kiana. Did you see the post-credits scene? That bastard Otto has already started using Kiana's genes for research!"
"What, there's a post-credits scene?!"
"What, he's using little Kiana's genes?!"
"Poster above, you're behind the times."
"Why does no one think the protagonist of the second movie will be Siegfried?"
"I admit Siegfried was cool when he unleashed the Might of An-Utu to protect his family, but I have a feeling he's going to be killed off in the second part."
"Shut up! How dare you!"
"Can you release the sequel faster! I can't wait anymore."
Ya Qing noticed the comments were divided into four types.
One type was urging for a quick sequel.
A second type was cursing the Otto in the story.
A third was praising the great writing.
And the last type was... cursing Welt.
