"Kyōraku-kun, really…"

Urahara Kisuke started, but saw Kyōraku Callum walking towards Shiba Isshin.

He sighed, "I hope Kyōraku-kun's just joking."

Shiba Isshin, seeing Kyōraku Callum approach, asked, "Anything else you need to mention?"

Kyōraku Callum nodded. "What about the Tenth Division? You just left them with a mess. Captain-Commander Yamamoto is considering me for the Captain's position."

Shiba Isshin fell silent, a smile threatening to break through. Kyōraku Callum stared impassively at him.

"Hahaha, the Captain-Commander's thinking… surprisingly insightful!" Shiba Isshin finally said, managing to suppress his laughter.

Despite their short acquaintance, Shiba Isshin was intelligent enough to realize Kyōraku Callum was similar to him; they both avoided unnecessary responsibilities.

Kyōraku Callum would undoubtedly refuse the Tenth Division Captaincy.

Noticing Kyōraku Callum's increasingly displeased expression, Shiba Isshin managed to compose himself.

"Ahem. Hitsugaya is a good choice. As for Rangiku…" Shiba Isshin frowned at the thought of his Lieutenant. "Let's forget about her. She's as unreliable as I am."

Kyōraku Callum gave him a dismissive look. At least he had some self-awareness.

Birds of a feather flock together; Shiba Isshin and Kyōraku Shunsui were clearly cut from the same cloth.

The Eighth Division's affairs were handled by Ise Nanao; the Tenth Division's, by Third Seat Hitsugaya Tōshirō.

Before Hitsugaya Tōshirō joined, it was a constant back-and-forth between the Captain and Lieutenant—a group of lazy individuals.

Kyōraku Callum found this contemptible, though he was indirectly guilty of the same. He'd delegated much of his Fourth Division Vice-Captain duties to Third Seat Isane Kotetsu.

"I understand," Kyōraku Callum said, nodding. "I'll visit the Tenth Division."

"One more thing," Shiba Isshin said, his expression serious.

"Please don't tell the Shiba family about my situation in the World of the Living. Kaien and Kūkaku might remain calm, but Ganju might not. He's reckless and impulsive. I'm worried he'll come to the World of the Living without thinking."

Kyōraku Callum understood Shiba Isshin's worries. The Shiba family was already declining; his disappearance would further diminish their standing. If not for Shiba Kaien, the Shiba family might have been stripped of their noble status.

The Five Noble Families in Soul Society represented more than privilege; they held specific responsibilities. The Tsunayashiro responsible for documenting the history of Soul Society; the Shihōin family held sacred artifacts and tools; the Kuchiki family maintained and established Soul Society's rules; the Shiba family possessed unique Kidō techniques and Shiba family held the flower crane cannon that leads to the Soul King's Palace.

That's why Shiba Isshin worried about his family.

Kyōraku Callum reassured him, "Don't worry about Kūkaku and the others. I'll ensure their safety. Soul Society is safer than the World of the Living right now."

With Shiba Isshin's matter settled, Kyōraku Callum, after comforting Nelliel, opened a Senkaimon and returned to Soul Society. He wasn't thrilled about it, but it was Shiba Isshin's request, so he would attend to it.

Soul Society, Tenth Division barracks. After leaving Kyōraku's residence, Kyōraku Callum headed straight for the Tenth Division barracks. As a senior officer, he felt it necessary to assess Hitsugaya Tōshirō's current strength. Of course, it was also partly out of personal amusement.

A new prodigy from the Shinigami Academy, graduating young and becoming a Third Seat quickly, he was another genius promoted by the Academy after Kyōraku Callum.

He was diligently being exploited by his Captain and Lieutenant. The poor kid hadn't realized he'd joined a den of lazy people. Perhaps he'd only understand once he became Captain.

The Tenth Division barracks had a distinctive European style. Kyōraku Callum hadn't visited often, but he knew his way around. The biting cold spiritual pressure was easily detectable. Matsumoto Rangiku was likely at an Izakaya, drinking.

"Vice-Captain Kyōraku!" A Tenth Division guard, familiar with Kyōraku Callum's face, greeted him excitedly.

"I'm here to see Third Seat Hitsugaya," Kyōraku Callum said calmly.

"Please wait; I'll report immediately!" The guard rushed inside, returning shortly with a small figure. Silver hair, emerald eyes, and a chilling spiritual pressure identified him: Hitsugaya Tōshirō, Third Seat of the Tenth Division, one of Soul Society's most gifted Shinigami.

"Vice-Captain Kyōraku," Hitsugaya Tōshirō said, his expression impassive, his brows slightly furrowed. Perhaps it was the influence of his Zanpakutō.

Kyōraku Callum didn't mind; Hitsugaya Tōshirō was his junior, having been a step behind in both academy and division placement.

"Hitsugaya-san," Kyōraku Callum greeted, then stated his purpose. "Due to Captain Shiba's disappearance, Captain-Commander Yamamoto asked if I'd be willing to take over as Captain of the Tenth Division."

Hitsugaya Tōshirō's brows furrowed further.

"Is that so?"
