"Why are you two making those faces?"

Hitsugaya Tōshirō finally asked, unable to contain his curiosity.

Just then, a familiar voice called out from behind him. "Yo, Shiro!"

Hitsugaya Tōshirō instantly recognized Matsumoto Rangiku.

"Damn it, Matsumoto!" he snapped, turning around. "Watch your tone! Call me Third Seat Hitsugaya!"

The nickname "Shiro" clearly embarrassed him.

Matsumoto Rangiku, reeking of alcohol, looked at him with a dazed expression. "Pffft! Haha! Shiro, is that a new hairstyle? I never thought you'd change your look!"

Without a second thought, she walked over and playfully ruffled his hair. "Not bad! Whose masterpiece is this?"

Hitsugaya Tōshirō finally realized something was amiss. He conjured an ice mirror.

His usually neat, finely-cut silver hair looked as if it had been thoroughly messed with. It was a disaster, completely ruining his image.

"Kyōraku Callum!" His indignant shout echoed across the Tenth Division barracks, followed by Matsumoto Rangiku's hearty laughter.

Kyōraku Callum, still in the Fourth Division, paid no mind to such details. His actions were purely for his own amusement—a childish prank.

Three days later, Hitsugaya Tōshirō submitted his application for Captain.

Considering the Tenth Division's unique circumstances, Yamamoto-Genryūsai called a Captain's meeting to discuss the matter.

Unohana Retsu, however, was preparing for the Fourth Division's monthly flower arrangement competition, so she delegated the meeting to Kyōraku Callum.

First Division, headquarters. The Captains gathered, idly waiting for the meeting to begin. To Kyōraku Callum's surprise, Kenpachi Zaraki had returned from the Rukongai border.

Though heavily bandaged, he looked energetic and in good spirits. Upon seeing Kyōraku Callum, a ferocious grin spread across his face.

"Alright, Kyōraku!" he said. "Let's have another fight!"

Kyōraku Callum flatly refused. "Impossible. Don't even think about it."

"What?!" Kenpachi Zaraki was taken aback. Kyōraku Callum's response was unexpected. "Find another Captain for a fight. Byakuya-taichō or Kyōraku-taichō, perhaps."

This immediately drew complaints from the other two.

"Hey, Kyōraku! Don't push fights onto this old man!" Kyōraku Shunsui complained, his face pained. "I'm in a creative slump lately, losing hair by the handfuls."

Kuchiki Byakuya remained silent, maintaining his aloof demeanor. Image was crucial for the Kuchiki family, especially for Kuchiki Byakuya as the head of the family.

"Tch! Can't understand the joy of a good fight!" Kenpachi Zaraki muttered.

Kyōraku Callum's eyes widened in astonishment. He'd heard Kenpachi Zaraki, of all people, express such a sentiment. The world was changing faster than he anticipated!

Just then, Hitsugaya Tōshirō entered, noticing Kyōraku Callum and Kenpachi Zaraki. His calm expression instantly turned to anger.

"Damn it!" he muttered under his breath as he passed Kyōraku Callum, who simply smiled innocently, feigning ignorance.

This only further angered Hitsugaya Tōshirō, who was helpless against Kyōraku Callum. He couldn't win.

After their previous battle, Hitsugaya Tōshirō had realized something: the gap between him and Kyōraku Callum was insurmountable through mere effort.

Even his Shikai-enhanced Hyōrinmaru couldn't harm Kyōraku Callum. The memory of the overwhelming Goryūtenmetsu still filled him with a sense of helplessness.

The Captain's meeting soon began. The atmosphere was unexpectedly heavy. Kyōraku Callum's brow furrowed; something felt wrong. This meeting seemed to be about more than just the Tenth Division Captaincy.

"Given the disappearance of the Tenth Division's former Captain, Shiba Isshin, Soul Society has officially declared him as having died in the line of duty," Yamamoto-Genryūsai's steady, aged voice resonated through the headquarters.

"This leaves a vacancy for the Tenth Division Captain. Yesterday, Hitsugaya Tōshirō submitted his application. Does anyone have any objections?"

His calm gaze swept across the headquarters. Silence. This silence, however, implied consent.

"Then, Hitsugaya Tōshirō will assume the position of Tenth Division Captain," Yamamoto-Genryūsai said, his expression softening slightly.

"The youngest Captain in Soul Society. I expect you to make the most of your talent."

Yamamoto-Genryūsai clearly held Hitsugaya Tōshirō in high regard. Hyōrinmaru, the strongest ice-type Zanpakutō, was a perfect counterpoint to his Ryūjin Jakka.

In essence, they were similar in nature. Whether Hitsugaya Tōshirō could reach Yamamoto-Genryūsai's level remained to be seen, but the possibility existed.
