Kyōraku Callum's lips curled into a smirk, revealing his white teeth.
"Indeed, you always notice everything," he said. "Let's wait a little longer. We're playing the endgame."
The Masaki incident was, to Kyōraku Callum, merely a minor, insignificant blip in the grand scheme of things. Time continued its relentless march.
However, something unexpected occurred. A month after Masaki's soul was stabilized, Kurosaki Isshin arrived at the Urahara Shop, accompanied by another man.
"A Quincy?!" Kyōraku Callum's brow furrowed in question as he looked at the newcomer.
The man had silver, center-parted short hair, expensive-looking glasses perched on his nose, deep blue eyes, and expensive clothing.
"Ishida Ryūken?" Kyōraku Callum voiced his suspicion.
Ishida Ryūken nodded. "I've come to ask Callum-san and Urahara-san to help treat my wife, Kanae Katagiri."
Kyōraku Callum glanced at Urahara Kisuke, who nodded in agreement.
"If you two can save her, I'll do anything," Ishida Ryūken stated resolutely.
"Uh, for this kind of thing, you should just ask Kisuke," Kyōraku Callum said, promptly shifting the responsibility to Urahara Kisuke.
Kanae Katagiri was different from Kurosaki Masaki.
Kanae Katagiri was a mixed-blood Quincy, while Masaki was a pure-blooded Quincy. If not for the White Hollow's infection which corrupted Masaki's soul, the Schrift wouldn't have stolen her power.
Her soul had also undergone unique changes due to the infection. Kyōraku Callum had no solution for Kanae Katagiri's situation; it required a specialist.
Ishida Ryūken turned to Urahara Kisuke, who was stroking his chin in thought.
After a moment, Urahara Kisuke spoke. "Ryūken-san, I can't guarantee anything, but I'll do my best."
Ishida Ryūken, overjoyed, immediately expressed his gratitude. "Thank you, Urahara-san."
Kyōraku Callum was struck by Ishida Ryūken's display of emotion; this usually calm man was visibly distraught over his wife.
This was the power of love, he mused. Perhaps Kanae Katagiri and Ishida Ryūken's relationship wasn't merely a matter of convenience. Even stone melts under the sun's relentless heat, and time softens even the hardest hearts.
This was, however, not unwelcome news for Urahara Kisuke. His recently extinguished researcher's spirit reignited. He enthusiastically threw himself into the research.
Three days later, Urahara Kisuke appeared before Kyōraku Callum, his expression one of despair.
"Kisuke, what's with that expression?" Kyōraku Callum asked, surprised. "Even if you can't cure her, it shouldn't be this bad."
Urahara Kisuke shook his head, his demeanor dejected. "It's not that there's no way, it's that the solution is… the same as before."
Kyōraku Callum was puzzled. "Isn't that good? Finding a solution…"
He paused, realizing something. "Wait, the solution isn't the same as before, is it?"
Urahara Kisuke nodded miserably, his face etched with frustration. "The lack of Quincy power is weakening her body. Ultimately, she needs power to stabilize her soul. We just need to add a new power source."
His dejection stemmed from the frustration of his burning research spirit finding no outlet. It was like downloading 100GB of data only to find it's a low-resolution news broadcast.
"Stop making that face," Kyōraku Callum urged. "Let's solve this."
They repeated the previous procedure, but this time, the power source was spatial energy. Kanae Katagiri's soul lacked Hollow power; temporal energy might not be sufficient. Urahara Kisuke's brilliance proved unwavering.
Kanae Katagiri recovered, and Urahara Kisuke and Kyōraku Callum received Ishida Ryūken's heartfelt gratitude and trust.
The Urahara Shop returned to its usual calm. Hollow disturbances continued in the World of the Living.
Five years later, new information arrived from the Seireitei: a new spiritual pressure detector had been invented, and a large number were sent to the Shinigami stationed in the World of the Living.
The Hollow disturbances began to be systematically suppressed.
Urahara Shop.
Kyōraku Callum examined the new detector, identical to the previous models, with a peculiar expression.
"This thing took Kurotsuchi Mayuri over ten years to develop? Did a Hollow eat his brain?" he muttered, tossing it to Urahara Kisuke, who had just returned from the underground facility, and resuming his activities of petting his cat and a low-level Arrancar.
Urahara Kisuke caught the detector, briefly examined it, and said, "With Kurotsuchi's skill, it would have taken him a week at most. He probably used this research as an excuse to get more research funds."
As Kurotsuchi Mayuri's former superior, Urahara Kisuke knew him well.
Kyōraku Callum nodded in understanding. "Typical Kurotsuchi."
"Callum," Urahara Kisuke said, handing back the detector. "When are you planning to start your plan?"
As he spoke, the black cat on Kyōraku Callum's left twitched its ears, seemingly wanting to contribute its opinion.
Kyōraku Callum gently pressed down on its head. After a moment of thought, he said, "In three days. It's the full moon."
Urahara Kisuke smiled. "Then I'll start preparing."
As Urahara Kisuke left, Kyōraku Callum released the cat's head.
Yoruichi Shihōin's voice echoed through the shop. "Two troublemakers…"
