Upon hearing Callum's voice, Aizen shifted his gaze, forcing a strained smile to his lips.
"Regarding Hinamori's sentencing, even the Captain-Commander is powerless.
Transferring one's spiritual energy to a human is an exceptionally rare event in the history of Soul Society, especially for a Vice-Captain like Hinamori."
Callum's expression became noticeably urgent. "Then, Hinamori's sentence...?"
Aizen shook his head, a palpable sense of helplessness evident in his demeanor.
"It will be left to the Central Forty-Six to decide. The Captain-Commander instructed me to await their judgment patiently."
Callum inwardly scoffed. The Central Forty-Six's judgment was, in essence, Aizen's judgment.
However, he was far too astute to expose Aizen at this juncture; he suspected a new mission was imminent.
"Let us hope the Central Forty-Six will show leniency," Callum offered by way of reassurance.
Aizen let out a heavy sigh, his voice thick with a weighty gravity. "Let us hope so. Incidentally, how fares that young assailant from the World of the Living?"
A look of mild surprise crossed Callum's face as he looked at Aizen.
"I never would have expected Captain Aizen to display such benevolence towards humans."
A faint smile played on Aizen's lips as he softly replied, "Respecting every life. That has always been a principle I have striven to uphold."
Feigning a lack of understanding of the underlying meaning of Aizen's words, Callum responded to his previous question.
"I merely rendered him unconscious. However, the individual who absorbed Hinamori's spiritual energy also appeared. I disrupted that person's Chain of Fate and Soul Sleep. A Shinigami beyond the Seireitei's control could potentially cause us significant trouble."
Aizen's gaze lingered for a moment before he nodded.
"Naturally." He voiced no objections to Callum's actions.
The two parted ways on the Seireitei streets. Aizen returned to the Fifth Division to attend to his duties, while Callum headed back to the Fourth, awaiting the announcement of Hinamori Momo's sentence.
"Do those who accomplish great things disregard minor details?" Callum mused to himself as he walked. "Perhaps that is where Aizen and I fundamentally differ."
Suddenly, he detected a spiritual pressure ahead, carrying with it a familiar chill.
Callum halted, observing a small figure approaching. Silver-white hair, an expression as cold as ice, and jade eyes devoid of any emotional fluctuation.
The current Tenth Division Captain, Hitsugaya Tōshirō.
"Hachi?" Callum's single word shattered Hitsugaya Tōshirō's icy facade.
The nickname visibly enraged Hitsugaya Tōshirō.
"Damn it!" he exclaimed, but under Callum's surprised gaze, he took several deep breaths, attempting to quell his rising anger.
"Callum-kun," Hitsugaya Tōshirō said, approaching Callum with an earnest demeanor. "I wish to ask you something."
Hitsugaya Tōshirō's atypical behavior didn't escape Callum's keen observation. He placed a hand on Hitsugaya Tōshirō's head, offering a word of advice.
"Little brat, don't overthink it. This is grown-up business!"
Callum understood the young Captain's intentions at a glance.
His inability to mask his emotions would only deceive the Eleventh Division's less perceptive members.
Hitsugaya Tōshirō's temples throbbed, his eyes blazing with barely contained fury. His age, something he held dear, was being repeatedly mocked.
Yet, he was utterly powerless; he couldn't best Callum in a fight, and he desperately needed his assistance.
After several attempts, Hitsugaya Tōshirō managed to suppress his turbulent emotions.
"Vice-Captain Callum," he said, altering his address. "This matter is of paramount importance to me. I implore you to tell me… has Hinamori returned to Soul Society?"
Callum's expression remained unchanged, his voice calm and steady.
"Captain Aizen and I brought her back."
Upon hearing this, Hitsugaya Tōshirō's emotions threatened to overwhelm him.
"Then, where is she?"
A hint of disdain touched the corners of Callum's mouth as he responded, a subtle smile playing on his lips.
"As one of the Gotei 13's most dedicated Captains, you possess a far greater familiarity with Soul Society's laws than I".
"The gravity of the crime of illicitly bestowing one's spiritual energy upon a human requires no further elucidation, does it?"
