Chapter 11 - Where Ones Choices Lead

[CONTINUATION]

James opens his system menu and sees a new skill that he hadn't had before.

The new skill James has acquired is called 'Conversion'.

James read the description of the skill and was amazed at how useful it could be.

The Conversion skill allowed James to convert anything into something else, similar to how alchemy works. The skill imitated a philosopher's stone as it could convert things without the use of any energy and was indefinite so long as the was something equivalent that could be used to make something else.

(SCENE)

James thought of how he could effectively use his Conversion skill, then he realised that it could be nicely used with his Gluttony skill.

James Gluttony's skill allowed him to absorb the powers and attributes of the things he wanted; however, during the process of absorbing things, he's skill leaves behind residue since it isn't high enough level yet. The residue that's left behind by the skill is stored within the skill, and it can be taken out and used, but not reabsorbed.

The residue that's produced by the Gluttony skill is refined in the skill and can be used.

James tries to use the residue that is produced by his Gluttony to make something with his Conversion skill.

James takes out all the residue from the Gluttony skill and tries to examine it quickly to see what it could be. James then gets the 'Appraisal' Skill after intensely trying to figure out what the residue could be.

After acquiring the Appraisal skill, James tries to use it on the residue and finds out some new information.

The information James found stated that the residue had been very magically dense, mythical grade, and was a very rare material that's only gotten after continuous refinement of various materials.

After finding out more about what the residue could be, James decided to try out his 'Conversion' skill and see what he could make from it.

(SCENE)

James takes 100grams of the Residue material (15kg total) and places it on the floor.

After James paced the residue on the floor, he activated the 'Conversion' Skill, and a new menu showed up in front of his face.

The menu had a selection of items and various energies that the residue could be converted or changed into with the use of the 'Conversion' skill.

Amongst the items and energies that James saw as he scrolled through the list that was available to him.

James saw an option that would allow him to turn the residue into usable mana, which would effectively fill his mana up and allow him to use magic.

James clicked the option that would allow him to change the residue into mana. When James used the 'Conversion' skill to change the residue into mana, all the mana that was made from the residue immediately went into James' body, and he absorbed it all.

When James finished absorbing the mana, he felt much stronger and lighter, as the amount of mana he absorbed was equivalent to the amount one would absorb over 12 years of their lives.

(SCENE)

James' mana reserve increased exponentially after changing the residue into mana.

James obtained more skills because his mana increased, and he was looking through them.

Among the new skills James acquired, one of them seemed to be more useful than the others.

The skill allowed James to indefinitely increase his senses, which in turn would make it seem as if time slowed when used. The skill also has a passive effect, which makes James' senses increase in moments of danger, so he has enough time to react.

Jame equips the skill before fighting the monsters that are in his way.

James leaves the hiding area he's in and is about to start fighting the 2 monsters (Iron golems) that are in his way.

(Iron golems are 8-foot-tall and 4 feet wide mechanical monsters that have a core on their chest. The golems occur when ghosts get sucked into unique stones that contain a rare mana. When the ghosts are absorbed, over time minerals start to clump up on the stone and it takes the shape of a golem, controlled by the ghosts.)

James starts fighting the Iron Golems.

James uses a simple fireball spell on the Golems to get their attention, so he can more easily take them down.

To James' surprise, when he used the fireball spell, it destroyed both the Golems' bodies, but their cores remained.

James was in shock at the fact that he drafted both the Golems with one spell, so it took him a second before going to absorb Golem cores.

After a second, Ein talks to James and tells him to hurry up, because he got tired of waiting for James.

James goes towards the Golem cores and tries to absorb them using his Gluttony skill.

James successfully absorbs the cores and gains a few new skills, along with 20kg of residue.

Before checking his new skills, James uses his Conversion skill to turn some of the Residue into mana, so he can have a greater influx.

James uses 1kg of residue and turns it into mana. After a few seconds, the residue turns into usable mana, and it is absorbed by James.

James' body slightly burns because of the amount of mana that enters he's body, since it was equal to 120 years' worth of mana, being absorbed into his body.

When James's is is done absorbing the mana, he takes a quick look at his skills before continuing to try and escape the ruin.

James checked the new skills he had acquired.

James got 2 new skills he got a skill called 'Golem defence' and one called 'Resentment'. Of the 2 new skills James acquired, the one he took the most interest in was the 'Resentment' Skill.

The 'Resentment' skill allowed James to temporarily control ghosts and spirits so long as they had heavy resentment toward something within the realm where living things are.

The skill also allowed James to raise dead skeletons to fight for him.

As James read through the description of the 'Resentment' Skill, he realised that he basically became a necromancer and that it could be more useful than one might think.

James asked Ein if he knew places where there are a lot of more evil spirits than him or ghosts, so he could test the limits of he's new skill.

Ein told James that in one of the lower floors of the ruin, there is a graveyard, where a lot of ghosts reside.

James noted what Ein said before he continued going down the ruin.

(SCENE)

James continues going down the ruins and encounters more monsters that he has to take care of. Along the way, as he was going down the ruins, the monsters he came into contact with all got one shot by James, and he used Gluttony on all of them.

James acquired many new skills and also took the time to upgrade some of the skills he already had, as he reviewed the new ones he had acquired.

When James eventually reached the graveyard section of the ruin, he tried to use his normal skills to kill the ghosts, but he failed because the ghosts didn't have physical bodies, and as a result, his attacks were ineffective against them.

James retreated after seeing that he couldn't affect the ghosts. When James got to a safe enough area close to the graveyard, he looked back at the collection of skills he had to try and find something that he could use against the ghost.

After looking over the list for a few seconds, James saw that he had another very unique, useful skill that could help him in defeating the ghosts, so he could use a different skill on them.

The skill James had found was called 'Detachment,' and it allowed James to use his soul power to attack entities.

James briefly looked over the skill and asked Ein what the best way to use it was. Ein told James that the best way to use the skill would be like using pure mana, to shape his soul into something like a weapon, such as projectiles, so he could attack the ghosts more easily, and from a distance. James took what Ein said into consideration and proceeded to leave the 'safe' area he was in to go back to the graveyard.

James went back to the graveyard and used his new skill. When activating the skill, James tried shaping his soul power into projectiles like Ein suggested he do.

James shaped his soul power into 10 milliliter bullets and fired them towards the ghosts when he came into contact with them.

(SCENE)

James is in the graveyard and uses his 'detachment' skill to 'kill' the ghosts in the graveyard before using his other skill to try and control the ghosts that he had defeated (When ghosts are defeated, they stick around for a minute to a few hours as lifeless soul shells, that have memories, but no motives, before disappearing.)

James uses his 'Resentment' skill and takes control of a ghost that was about to disappear in front of him. When the skill was activated, the ghost was sucked into James' body and came out a few seconds later as an orb. James used his appraisal skill on the orb, and it showed that James would need to collect resentment orbs to make a greater ghost that he could control. The amount of Orbs James would need was counted at 10 orbs for one low-level ghost.

James was taken aback by the fact that he'd have to go through so much trouble just to get a ghost that he could control, but he had eliminated more than enough ghosts to fulfill the conditions required, so he continued using his skill.

After a few minutes of James using his skill, it suddenly upgraded and started giving James double the amount of orbs, along with unlocking a passive effect, and its description slightly changed.

The new description of James 'Resentment' skill stated that it would take control of ghosts, but also allow the user to use the ghosts as life-lines (So if James was about to die or get instantly killed, the resentment skill's passive effect, would destroy one of hes controllable ghosts, going from weakest to strongest, and give James a 9x - 999x Strengh boost depending on how James could be killed, the skill also resotres James vigour, endurance, stamina, and health to its peak, but cant actively be used.)

After James read the new description of his 'Resenment' skill, a grin showed up on his face, as he knew he had lucked out, and couldn't be killed, so long as he had enough ghosts under his control.

(A FEW MINUTES LATER)

James collected a few 39 Orbs. He clicked on the orbs while it was in his storage ring, and a menu for combining the orbs came up. James clicked yes when asked if he wanted to combine them, and 30 of the 39 he had acquired went out of his storage and combined into low-level ghosts. (He can access his storage ring by using his system, along with everything on his person.)

3 Low-level ghosts appeared from the orbs, and they were all stagnant on the ground. James tried to command them, but it didn't work, so he asked Ein if he knew what was up. Ein told James that he's skilled, likely needed him to use the orbs to make artificial ghosts, and use them again, so he could control them easier, as it would be very difficult to control real people, even if his very strong, especially since his skill can also kill them if his life is threatened.

James thought Eins' statement was reasonable, so he tried to use his skill on the low-level ghosts, unlike with he normal ghosts, this time the ghosts didn't turn into orbs.

When James used his skill, a new menu showed up on James' system, and it was a list that said 'Entities' with a limit of 10. On the screen, James had seen that he could have a maximum of 10 ghosts, or entities, as it showed he had '3/10' entities.
