Cate did not have time, and so she did not waste any by caring about whether she could withstand the powerful electric current through the glass structure. Cate was not very sure about how the humans had managed to pass electricity through glass. Even the dead Doctor Foster had not known how they had done such a thing.
Cate picked through the glass with all her might. She felt all the hair on her body gain new life as power enough to kill a normal human in seconds passed through every inch of her perfect body. Her blood boiled, and her hair stood on end.
"Wahhhhaaaa," Cate cried out in pain and the frustration that came from having this foreign power moving through her being. She gritted her teeth and fought through the pain as she grabbed the Key of Destiny before her. The moment she grabbed the key, she forgot about the mortal pain that had been forced upon her by technology.
She was able to forget so much pain so easily because that pain did not in any way compare to the pain she now felt from touching a Key of Chaos. She felt the key suck all the magic right out of her body. Cate had expected something like this. After all, this was not her first encounter with a Key of Chaos.
Most supernaturals would instinctively resist at this moment. No one wanted to lose so much power so fast. Cate knew that to resist the key was to reject its being, and this would forever disqualify her from taking away this key. She had to allow the key to reach into the recesses of her power. This was the only way she could bind the flow of magic within the key to her magic.
Once the two forces reached resonance, the key would be one part of Cate, and she would become its master. This was the only way to take away a key of chaos. There was a big risk in this simple process. If one did not have enough magic to resonate with the key, the key would swallow all their magic before swallowing them away as well. This was one of the worst ways to die. In short, only those with a lot of magic in their blood could take away a key of chaos.
In some instances, the key would still swallow the person even though they had enough magic power to sate its hunger. No one knew why the keys sometimes did this, but this was the least of Cate's problems right now.
After using the Original Sin spell on herself, Cate had begun evolving into something she did not know. She had gone through many changes over the past few years, and one of them was a great increase in her magic capacity. When Medusa was reborn in this life as Cate, she was already impressed by the powerful magic that moved through her new body. With the increase brought about by the Original Sin spell, Cate believed that she might end up having the greatest quantity of magic once her transformation was complete.
Cate fed her power into the key. She was not willing to simply wait for the key to slowly suck her dry. Cate did not have time for that. She pushed all her magic into the key. The hand she used to touch the key was hit by a powerful heat wave...her skin blistered, and soon, her flesh began falling off.
This horror spread to her entire arm. Cate was channeling too much magic too fast. It was too much for mortal flesh to handle. Cate screamed in pain, but she never once thought about stopping what she was doing. Instead, she reached out with her other hand as well and grabbed the key even tighter.
With two hands, she channeled even more power into the key. Cate's hair fell out like dried grass, and her clothes caught on fire. Her eyes flow with a terrible power that spreads out all over the room and beyond. This power made the entire facility shake. Parts of it began falling apart. It was clear that this place would not last much longer.
Cate could feel Mary move even closer, and this drove her to channel even more power into the key. Just when she was beginning to feel that there was no end to this pain she was now feeling, Cate burst into flames that lit up the room. Fortunately, this was ours for a second. The key suddenly became loose from whatever force had been holding her in place, and in the next instant, Cate removed the key from its lock.
Cate felt that this key was a part of each drop of blood in her body. When she looked at the key, she did not see an object but a piece of her soul that she could never bear to part with. The fire that covered her body went out, and her healing kicked in. In less than a second, Cate's skin had regrown back. She stood there naked with the key in her right hand.
She did not want Mary to find her in this place. Cate had drained a lot of her magic just now, and she was not sure what to do in this moment. Even though Cate was in a relationship with Mary, Cate had also kept too many secrets over the years. She was not sure how Mary would react when she suddenly found out that Cate had joined Avalon for an entirely different reason than what she had told her.
Cate looked around the devastated room, trying to figure out something to solve this situation. She could hear Mary's footsteps getting closer. Cate conjured a dress similar to what she had been wearing before. This solved one of her problems. The fact that the room clearly showed that something had gone on was another problem. If Mary found her in this place, Cate would have to explain what had happened.
Cate thought through the possible solutions, and she finally settled on one. Mary entered the room a few seconds later. Cate stood in the room, examining a silver sword that was embedded in the wall. Cate turned around and looked at Mary with a bright smile on her face.
"You have finally reached this place," she said.
"For some reason, I only ran into one of those weird soldiers in black." Mary responded. She stood next to Cate, and the two began examining the sword together.
