Chapter 102 - Kino Doesn't Like Looking Up

Humans are strange creatures.

To put it bluntly, two dogs might fight to the death over a single bone, but when a third dog appears, those two might unite against the newcomer before resuming their fight.

To put it more politely, two robbers might split twenty-two gold coins evenly, but when three robbers try to divide the same amount, two of them might end up dead.

Of course, neither of those descriptions is entirely accurate.

But, seeing the sudden appearance of the man in the white mask, Batman and Ra's al Ghul stopped their fight, a silent agreement between them.

"It's you."

"You're the mysterious person who destroyed the Court of Owls."

Batman and Ra's al Ghul spoke almost simultaneously.

"Clap clap clap." The mysterious masked man, Kino, clapped enthusiastically, as if he was cheering. He rubbed his hands together, his tone mocking. "So, when are you two going to start fighting? I'd love to join in the fun."

His eager tone and gestures made it seem like he couldn't wait for them to start fighting.

En, what Kino meant by "joining in the fun" was to collect a wave of Negative Points. He needed just over four thousand more to exchange for another Golden Legend.

Then he could go find a magician or something, and use a medium to visit Heaven and find God. He could swipe a card and instantly ascend to the T0 ranks on the DC Universe power rankings!

He could practically achieve Genesis right then and there!

Thanos? The Snap? He could sneeze and kill a hundred of them without breaking a sweat.

Of course, this was all just Kino's wishful thinking. According to his understanding as a comic book fan, God had "split" himself into several parts long ago, with concepts like the Voice of God and the Body of God, and all sorts of other strange things.

Never take things too seriously in the DC Universe. Seriously, nobody can keep track of all the bizarre and strange settings.

But that doesn't stop Kino from earning points. Good stuff, who can say no to more?

Listening to Kino, Batman–or rather, Ra's al Ghul–already had a gloomy expression, which grew even uglier. It looked like ice water could squeeze out of his old, wrinkled face any second.

What the hell is this bastard talking about? Is he treating the fight between him and Batman like monkeys fighting in a circus?

"Not willing?"

The white mask turned, sweeping over their cold expressions. Kino sighed slightly.

He glanced at Batman, whose body was tense as if facing a great enemy, and a smile appeared on the corner of his mouth, "I remember telling you last time to reappear after you've gotten stronger."

"How are you prepared now?"

Before he finished speaking, Kino leaped lightly from the ten-meter-high wall.

The activation of the Bio-Field caused the marble path beneath Kino's feet to explode, leaving behind two deep footprints.

Terror, and the extreme fear that followed, felt like an invisible hand clamping down on Ra's al Ghul's throat.

He'd swear on the honor of his wife, who had been dead for hundreds of years, that he had never seen anything so terrifying. A human?

To be honest, the moment that guy jumped from the high wall and landed on the concrete, Ra's al Ghul's hairs stood on end. It was as if what had jumped wasn't a person, but something inhuman, perhaps even a legendary, extraordinary being.

"Boom!"

Kino manipulated his Bio-Field, compressing the air around him to create a sharp, cracking sound.

"Foolish boy."

Ra's al Ghul reacted quickly, he had already understood who his true opponent was.

He could put aside his grudges with the traitor Batman for now. Surviving this masked man was the key.

He looked at Batman and said, "You and I, let's take this guy down first."

Batman didn't respond to Ra's al Ghul. Instead, he was already formulating a plan for retreat in his mind.

Going up against a terrifying opponent he already knew, completely unprepared, was undoubtedly a reckless choice. He had no intention of sharing information with Ra's al Ghul. Quite the opposite, Batman planned to use him as a pawn.

His poker face subtly twitched. Batman said coldly, "Alright, let's go together."

Ra's al Ghul breathed a sigh of relief. If there were two of them, the pressure might ease. If the opponent proved too strong, he could always ditch Batman and make a run for it.

The two old hard-asses (scratch that) strategic masters were ready.

Facing this mysterious person whose strength was unfathomable, they had to be completely focused.

The three of them stood in silence, facing each other.

Crack!

Ra's al Ghul bit his finger, and crimson blood flowed down his fingertip. He smeared the blood across his cheek.

As the head of the League of Assassins and the owner of the Lazarus Pit, how could Ra's al Ghul not have a few hidden techniques up his sleeve?

In the next moment, the originally gaunt old man's figure suddenly swelled.

His shriveled muscles re-inflated, becoming even more robust. His small frame shot upwards, transforming him into a giant. His limbs also continuously swelled and grew larger.

Sshhh-

His clothes were torn apart.

Years of soaking in the Lazarus Pit had filled Ra's al Ghul's body with a terrifying and strange energy. It could grant Ra's al Ghul immense power in a short amount of time, but the cost was a loss of some sanity, making him become enraged and bloodthirsty.

"ROAR!"

Transformed into a giant over four meters tall, Ra's al Ghul roared at the sky. From a distance, he looked exactly like a Devil Muscle Man.

That green bean-sized eye stared fixedly at Kino's figure. Then, the giant's legs leaped, kicking up a violent wind that whipped at his tattered clothes, driving his massive body down like a god descending from the heavens, and he lunged towards the youth.

Against that terrifying physique, Kino, at a height of over six feet, looked like a mere speck.

Impressive, so the Lazarus Pit has this kind of effect?

Kino was unperturbed, watching Ra's al Ghul's reddish, burning skin with interest. It looked like the skin of a terrifying demon, and furthermore, the surface was etched with unknown pentagram marks, like a demon from hell, looking evil and ominous.

"Roar!"

Ra's al Ghul's raised fist gathered irresistible power. An unusual, flushed smile appeared on his demonic face; he seemed to see the scene of smashing the youth's body to pieces with a single punch and then brutally killing him.

Then.

He saw the masked man slowly raise his hand and clench his fist.

"Boom!"

A series of vibrations echoed through the air as Kino's fingers clenched, the terrifying force exploding within the maze.

Kino looked up at the giant descending from above, his expression unchanged beneath his mask: "I don't make a habit of looking up at people."

Then, Kino unleashed a punch straight upwards.

The speed was so great it was impossible to track with the naked eye.

Batman, who had been observing from the sidelines – or rather, watching the fight – only saw a visible fist wind converge in the air. It resembled an air cannon, leaving a straight trail as it slammed into Devil Muscle Man Ra's al Ghul.

A cloud of impact burst forth in the air!

Then...

"Boom!"

The earth-shattering sound exploded in his ears, the decibels so intense that Batman couldn't help but cover his ears.

The old man, who seemed like a giant god, was sent flying with a single punch, like a kite with its string cut. His massive body crashed through the underground passage, scattering debris, and vanished into the night sky as a streak of light.

I'll write two chapters tomorrow to wrap up this plotline. From the fourth to the seventeenth, I finished writing the plots of Batman: Court of Owls and Batman: Year One. During the conception phase, I also cut some parts that weren't very interesting, such as Gordon's growth arc. After all, a supporting character taking up too much text will only make the reader feel bored. Next, I will introduce magical events to compensate for the protagonist's weakness in magic, and I will also introduce the first female lead. I hope I can portray this female lead in a likable way, so that readers will enjoy her.

Then, next month, I might take a day or two off to revise the previous free chapters, removing some of the poorly written parts. Ah, let's take things one step at a time. Haste makes waste, and Little Ink also loves to set up flags and then eat them. Maybe next month I'll be too lazy to revise them (crying and laughing), over.
