Chapter 110 - Your Mom's Gone

Inside the house, now almost reduced to rubble.

The Demon possessing Sarah leaned against the wall, looking utterly defeated.

Kino, his expression unreadable, gestured towards Zatanna beside him: "She's asking, you're answering."

The Demon nodded blankly: "I won't refuse."

Even though it worked for the ultimate being, the price of betrayal would be terrible.

But it was like having two terrible options in front of them; all they had to do was choose the less awful one.

Would it be getting torn to shreds by those crazy angels in Heaven, or being endlessly tortured in Hell for betraying the big boss?

He chose the latter.

"I've noticed a surge in demonic activity lately. What's your scheme?"

Zatanna, chin resting on her hand, stared seriously at the Demon, pulling a crystal ball from her pocket. "Don't even think about lying. This magical crystal detects falsehoods."

The Demon fell silent, but as Kino slowly produced a cross, it closed its eyes and reluctantly confessed, "Yes, it's Lord Mammon. He wants us to harass the human world to attract the Exorcists' attention."

"I know nothing more than that."

A fawning smile spread across the Demon's face. "I'm just a nobody in Hell. Lord Mammon only told me this much."

"Who is Mammon?"

Kino glanced at Zatanna. He didn't believe in God and had no interest in the figures of Hell or Heaven.

Zatanna's expression was not as relaxed as Kino's. She hesitated before saying, "Mammon is one of Lucifer's many offspring."

"Lucifer? The first fallen angel?" Kino recalled some religious texts in his mind.

It was said that after God created mankind, Lucifer, dissatisfied with God's favoritism towards humans, led a group of angel underlings to wage war against God.

The outcome was obvious. The old man slapped Lucifer out of Heaven and created a dimension called "Hell" beneath the human realm, exiling Lucifer there.

However, just looking at these stories, Kino felt a strange feeling. He felt that God should be using Lucifer to accomplish some schemes, and Lucifer…

Kino felt that the other party might know, or might not know.

But these had little to do with him. Kino knew his purpose for this trip was to find a powerful figure in the magic side and obtain their talent.

If he couldn't get ahold of God, then perhaps Lucifer.

This former Morning Star, the first ray of light in the world, was also a good choice.

Kino came back to his senses. At this moment, Zatanna was also deep in thought, trying to deduce what Mammon wanted to do, but she had no clue.

The information available was too scarce to support any logical deductions.

For a moment, the situation reached a deadlock.

"If we can't figure it out, let's just put it aside for now."

Kino ruffled the girl's long hair, and Zatanna, brought back to reality, nodded in agreement.

"You're right. I won't think about it anymore; otherwise, I'll lose all my hair."

She sighed and reached up to rub her own hair.

Except for the principle of finding her missing father, Zatanna's personality generally leaned towards helping when she could and giving up when she couldn't.

No longer dwelling on Mammon, Zatanna felt much lighter. She tilted her head, turning her gaze to Sarah, who was possessed by a demon, and asked, "What about this one?"

Kino glanced at Sarah, his eyes filled with a serene expression. "Get on with it."

The girl's lips curled into a slight smile, and then she clasped her hands together, manipulating the seals.

A holy chant echoed through the hallway.

Yes, from the very beginning, Kino never intended to let this man-eating demon go. He didn't consider himself a good person, but adhering to promises and morality when dealing with a demon was undoubtedly laughable. Not to mention, this demon had the risk of going back to Hell and tattling.

Well, as his ancestors in his previous life would have said, the only good demon is a dead demon.

"May He have mercy on you, and forgive your sins…"

"Forgive you, and allow you to return to Heaven!"

Listening to the holy sound in her ears, and seeing the Gates of Heaven gradually appear in her eyes, the demon hidden within Sarah opened its mouth and let out a sharp wail: "You demons!"

It knew it had been tricked.

Those damn humans had no integrity, no martial virtue!

"Buzz~"

In an unseen dimension, the divine light of Heaven, visible only to Demons, slowly descended, enveloping it.

As the light fully enveloped it.

The Demon gritted its teeth, taking one last, deep look at Kino. All that greeted it was a raised middle finger.

The Demon swore, on its centuries-long demonic existence, that it had never seen such a vicious, cunning, despicable, and shameless human.

Kino grinned, wiggling his middle finger: "Have a good trip. When you get to Heaven, don't forget to say hello to God for me, and pass along a message. When Lionel dies, make sure he goes to Hell."

"Clatter…"

The bound body twitched constantly. A chilling atmosphere enveloped the dilapidated shack. As the Demon retreated, the pale face gained a flush of color.

The chilling aura dissipated.

Sarah slowly opened her eyes.

Her vision was blurry. The familiar hallway of her home… She rubbed her eyes, feeling as if she had had a terrible nightmare. In the dream, she had done many terrible things: eating her father's remains, controlling her mother with whispers.

Her vision, as she rubbed her eyes, gradually cleared.

Sarah saw.

She saw the warm hallway of her memory shatter as if split in two by a giant god, and her house was in a mess.

A strange man and woman were standing in front of her, and the woman was looking at her with pitying eyes.

Zatanna hesitated, unsure how to explain everything that had happened to the girl.

Ever since her father disappeared, Zatanna had grown to dislike experiencing separations and deaths.

"We're exorcists," Kino stated. Well, technically, physical exorcism, forcing demons to submit with fists and brute force, still counted.

"Oh, right, there's something else you should know."

"Your mom's gone," Kino said, shrugging, and saving Zatanna the trouble.

"Kino!?"

Zatanna glared at the boy, but Kino just shrugged back. "Lies can't hide the truth. It's better to get it over with quickly."

Upon hearing the news, the girl's face stiffened. The information hit her like a hammer to the chest, leaving her mind blank and bewildered.

She didn't know what she should do?

The air was filled with a faint smell of sulfur mixed with the scent of burnt ash, forming a tragic picture with the girl's lifeless eyes.

"It's all my fault, this is all my fault!"

She came to her senses, howling in despair: "If it weren't for me breaking into that monastery, none of this would have happened!"

Zatanna glared at Kino. The boy pointed outside. The sound of wailing police sirens and fire trucks filled their ears. He said, "We have to go."
