"Zha Jiang Mian!"
In the American Chinese restaurant, a bowl of sweet noodles was placed on the table.
Constantine held a fork, shoveling noodles into his mouth without any regard for his image.
The surrounding diners were mostly locals from Metropolis.
Entering America, a country that favored sweet foods, even the profound Chinese cuisine had to make some adjustments. Ever heard of General Tso's Chicken?
Zatanna sat in the corner, holding a magic book and reading. She didn't intend to participate in the conversation between the two men.
"So, can you lead us to the spiritual entity?"
Kino took a sip of tea, his expression one of amusement as he stared at Constantine.
After devouring a large bowl of noodles with soy bean paste, Constantine wiped the sweet sauce from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, and then expertly pulled a cigarette from his pocket.
He glanced at the young man's eyebrows.
"Got a light?"
Kino chuckled, brought his fingers close to the cigarette, and then snapped his fingers lightly.
"Snap!"
A flickering flame sprang from his fingertips, igniting the cigarette, and the pungent smell of smoke filled the air.
Constantine was somewhat surprised by Kino's actions. How had he done that just now?
Magic? But he hadn't sensed any trace of magic on Kino.
However, Constantine was obviously a smart man, and he didn't intend to pry into the other person's secrets.
"Let's get back to the main point."
Constantine rapped on the table.
A flicker of mockery lit his eyes: "That's right, the damn medium."
"I know two."
"One is me."
The man gestured to his chest with a finger, his tone self-deprecating: "I could see those things when I was just a kid."
"Things humans aren't supposed to see, shouldn't see."
"My family couldn't see them. They were like most parents."
"I thought I was going crazy. They sent me to a mental hospital, and the doctors there used unique therapies to break my mind."
"I ended up trying to kill myself, but they brought me back."
"While I was there, I saw the sights of Hell, and…"
"I didn't come here to listen to your tragic childhood, John." Kino interrupted Constantine.
Constantine's experiences were indeed miserable, but Kino wasn't interested. He stared at the man: "Do your best to help me, and I'll give you something in return when it's done."
Kino's gaze swept over the man's chest. Through the skin, fat, and blood vessels, he could see a lot of black shadows inside Constantine's two lungs.
"Perhaps, I can even cure your lung cancer."
Constantine scoffed, exhaling a breath of turbid air.
"You know what I have, there's no chance of recovery."
"Not necessarily. This world is vast, and anything is possible, Constantine."
Kino said as he pulled out a bottle of amber gold from his pocket. "Never judge things you don't understand."
The liquid, shimmering with a crystalline galaxy of starlight, froze the mocking smile on Constantine's face.
As a con man, master of lies, and magician, he could naturally tell that the galactic light shimmering in the liquid wasn't a magical trick.
"Wheeze, wheeze."
Constantine felt his breathing quicken, and he instinctively reached for the small bottle, only to have his wrist grabbed by a large hand.
"I said, after it's done, Constantine." Kino smiled, but his tone was not to be questioned.
"I understand." Constantine sheepishly retracted his hand, but a glimmer of hope flickered in his normally bleak heart, ignited by what Kino had produced.
He was indeed destined for Hell after death, but if he could buy himself some time, perhaps he could change his fate.
"Tell me about this other psychic."
Kino flicked his hand across the table, and the small vial that had been sitting there vanished as if by magic.
"Here's the thing."
Constantine didn't mince words, relaying the information he had.
"Yesterday, a woman approached me. She said her sister had jumped off a building, and she called out my name as she fell."
"I didn't want to get involved, but..."
"I noticed that woman was being followed by a group of demons."
Kino nodded, "Go on."
"After that, I figured she was probably caught up in some kind of scheme between the demons, so I helped her get rid of them."
"But…"
Constantine sneered, "What kind of person would attract the attention of demons?"
"People like me, with psychic abilities. Demons like to torment us, then drag people with special abilities like us down to Hell."
"That policewoman?"
Kino narrowed his eyes, recalling the woman's face. She was a policewoman with short, burgundy hair. A badge was tucked into her backpack, and a pistol was hidden under her shirt.
An apartment in Metropolis East Side.
Angela gazed at the LexCorp skyscraper in the distance, her hands resting on the railing. She opened her mouth and sighed softly, "Isabella."
A look of remembrance flashed in the woman's eyes. Isabella, Angela's sister.
Just a week ago, her sister, who was a devout believer in God, had jumped to her death without any warning, a fact the woman couldn't accept.
Her sister was a pious Christian, and suicide was an unforgivable sin that led to Hell in Christian doctrine.
So, Angela used her access as a police officer to review the surveillance footage from that night.
Afterward, she saw a name from her sister's lip movements before she jumped: "Constantine."
"What exactly does that mean?"
Angela frowned, and after that, she sought out Constantine.
But the figure that appeared before her was a great disappointment.
A con man, a smoker, and foul-mouthed.
"Zzzt~"
The apartment's fluorescent lights flickered inexplicably, and the surrounding appliances began to flicker erratically.
Angela snapped back to reality, staring at the flickering appliances.
Even the air in the room seemed to grow a few degrees colder.
"What's going on?"
Her body tensed.
After everything that had happened recently, the woman had come to believe in doctrines about demons and angels.
"Angela~"
A voice, as if from the abyss, echoed in her ears, drawing closer.
"Fizzle!"
It sounded like a distorted voltage melting a filament. The flickering circuit suddenly went dark after reaching its critical point.
The next instant.
"Ah!"
A scream of terror suddenly erupted in the small apartment building.
"Zzzt~"
When the lights came back on in the house, all that remained was a wooden chair lying on the floor and a dark hole punched into the wall.
"Tick-tock~"
The clock's hands ticked, time flowing through the space, second by second.
Thirty minutes later, "Knock knock~"
The door was knocked, but there was no answer. A man's voice echoed, "Nobody's home."
"Buzz!"
The sturdy wooden door was cut as if it were paper by a scorching gaze.
Bang!
A figure slowly stepped into the room as a large hole was cut through the wooden door.
Kino looked at the studio apartment.
The open closet displayed several sets of women's bras, overturned chairs, and a broken water glass.
A faint scent of women's perfume lingered in the air.
But the most striking thing was the huge hole blasted in the wall.
"Looks like we're too late," Kino said without turning around, addressing the two people behind him.
