Chapter 63: Status Update
[Ding!]
[WOULD YOU LIKE TO VIEW THIS PERSON'S MIND?]
[YES] [NO]
"What the...?!" Fai blurted out, startling Sarah.
She immediately looked herself over, checking if anything was wrong, then scanned their surroundings in alarm.
Fai, realizing he had startled her for nothing, felt foolish.
"No, no—sorry. It's nothing," he said quickly, waving his hand. "I thought I saw something, but... never mind. I was mistaken."
"Are you sure?" she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"Yeah, I'm sure," he replied with a sheepish grin.
When she finally looked away, Fai's gaze returned to the glowing message before him.
'I had no idea the system could do this,' he thought, still staring at it in disbelief.
For a moment, he considered pressing [YES]. Maybe then he'd finally understand what was going on inside Sarah's head—why she was having those nightmares, and how he could help her.
But the thought of reading her mind without permission quickly made him uneasy. It would be an invasion of privacy, and she clearly wasn't ready to open up about that part of herself.
Besides, who knew what kind of thoughts were swimming around in there?
'Girls can look calm on the outside, but who knows what wild thoughts they might be hiding,' Fai mused.
With that, he decisively selected [NO].
Then another idea struck him—he could still make use of this moment. Maybe Sarah knew something, anything, about fairies.
"Sarah, I have a question," he said suddenly, trying to shift the topic.
Sarah didn't speak, but her subtle shift in posture showed she was listening.
"Have you ever heard of fairies before?" he asked.
Sarah blinked in confusion. Was he being serious? Everyone had heard of fairies. With all the stories about them, it was impossible not to. Still, she couldn't understand why he was asking such a random question right now.
"What kind of question is that? Of course, I've heard of fairies!" she said, half laughing.
"Can you tell me what you know about them?" Fai pressed. "Anything, really. It might help me with something."
She frowned slightly at his tone but decided to answer anyway.
"Well… there's not much to tell. They're tiny little creatures with wings, they speak in bell-like sounds, and they can control elements. That's about it," she said casually.
Fai listened but felt disappointed. It was all common folklore—nothing new.
He was sure humanity's version of fairies was incomplete, maybe even completely wrong.
'If that mind-reading thing is a skill... then it's something no one knows about. Maybe it's part of being a Level Four Seedling Fairy.'
That thought alone made him realize just how mysterious his transformation truly was.
"So that's all I know," Sarah concluded, tilting her head. "Why do you ask?"
"Not for any particular reason," Fai said quickly. "It just popped into my head. Thought it'd be interesting to hear someone else's view."
He wasn't about to reveal the truth—not yet.
"Well, if that's all," she said with a small stretch, "I'll get some rest. We've got a long day ahead."
She walked off toward her sleeping spot, leaving Fai alone.
Now, with silence around him, he focused entirely on his system.

Fai stared at his updated status, his brows furrowing.
Everything looked fine… but something was off.
He had expected a new skill to unlock at Level Four, yet nothing new appeared.
'Then what was that mind-reading message earlier?' he thought. 'Was that supposed to be a new skill? Or is it some kind of system bug? No—this isn't a video game. Systems don't just glitch like that… right?'
As his thoughts spun, another notification appeared.
[Ding!]
[NEW QUEST]
[OBJECTIVE: Reach Level 12]
[QUEST REWARDS: ....]
[QUEST PENALTY: ....]
Fai sighed, shaking his head.
It wasn't a quest he could complete any time soon, so he decided to ignore it for now.
He leaned back against the wall, the faint blue glow of the system reflecting in his eyes.
There was still so much he didn't understand—about the system, about fairies… and about himself.
