Chapter 64: A New Skill

[New Quest]

[Reach Level 12]

[Quest Rewards...]

[Quest Penalty...]

As Fai was deep in thought, his system notified him again about a new development.

It had assigned him a new quest—he was to reach Level 12—but the rewards and penalties were blocked out, shaded in dark colors, invisible to him.

The system was becoming more mysterious by the minute.

Fai, seeing that it wasn't a quest he could complete right away, mentally pushed it aside, shifting his focus back to more immediate concerns.

Why waste time worrying about that when there were other pressing matters at hand?

He was certain of one thing.

Earlier, while talking to Sarah, he had received a strange message from the system—it had asked if he wanted to read Sarah's mind. Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, he hadn't taken the bait.

Still, that peculiar incident strongly suggested that Fai might have gained a new skill. At least, that's what he thought—until he discovered it wasn't quite the case.

"I guess I'll just call it a bug," he muttered, replaying the brief glimpse of the "new skill" screen he had seen earlier. The image lingered in his mind, a teasing hint of hidden potential.

"Anyway," he continued, "every time I level up, I gain three stat points. It's probably smart to allocate them now—I doubt I'll have time later."

He reviewed his options carefully.

"From my fight with Keal's group, I learned something important. Strength, Endurance, Speed, and Agility are all crucial. HP too, obviously," he said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"It's just… if I have higher Endurance, I can withstand more attacks and stay standing longer. Speed's good, and I think mine's decent, but my Agility is way too low."

He grimaced, remembering his clumsy movements during the match.

"During that fight, I realized something—Speed alone isn't enough. Without Agility, you can't control that Speed."

He paused, then chuckled softly. "It's like a car. You can drive fast in a straight line, but if you try turning a corner at full speed, you'll crash. That's me—fast, but unstable."

He leaned back, crossing his arms. "And my Stamina's pathetic. So yeah, I need to fix that too."

With a clear plan in mind, he decided to split his six points evenly—two for Endurance, two for Stamina, and two for Agility.

He confirmed his choice, and his updated stats appeared before him.

[FAE EYES lvl 1]

[Description: When activated, this skill gives the user information about anything they scan or set their eyes on.]

He looked over the changes with satisfaction. "Now this feels better," he murmured. "I think I'm ready for whatever comes next."

Or so he thought—until another notification appeared.

[Ding!]

[CONGRATULATIONS! DUE TO YOU BEING A LEVEL FOUR SEEDLING, THE SYSTEM HAS OFFERED YOU A NEW SKILL.]

[AUTO FAIRY DEFENSE]

[4 USES LEFT]

[DESCRIPTION]

[When this skill is activated, the system automatically takes control of the user's body and demonstrates the prowess of a real Seedling Fairy.]

[With this, you can experience the true strength of a Fairy.]

Fai froze.

He had assumed he was done for the night, but the system clearly had other plans.

Just as he was about to close the interface, another message popped up.

"A new skill?" he said aloud, eyebrows raised. "I thought I hadn't earned any new ones yet. Guess I was wrong."

He read the description again, puzzled. "The system takes control of my body? To show me what a real fairy can do? What does that even mean?"

The system's explanation was vague, almost cryptic.

He frowned, feeling uneasy. "Is it safe? Or… is it gonna use my body like a puppet?"

Before he could overthink it, another message appeared.

[Would you like further explanation?]

[Yes] [No]

Fai blinked. This was new.

For the first time, the system had offered to explain something in detail. Why now? Had it started recognizing his effort? Or was this simply an automatic feature triggered by reaching Level Four?

Whatever the reason, he wasn't going to pass up the chance. He quickly selected [Yes].

[THE SYSTEM HAS ANALYZED THE USER'S FIGHTING STYLE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A REAL FAIRY'S FIGHTING STYLE.]

Fai froze mid-breath. "Wait, what?!"

He hadn't expected that kind of blunt statement, but the system continued without hesitation.

[A FAIRY IS KNOWN TO NEVER ALLOW DISRESPECT TO GO UNPUNISHED. YET THE USER FAILED TO PROPERLY PUNISH THOSE WHO DISRESPECTED HIM.]

Fai's jaw dropped slightly. "Okay… did my system just insult me?"

The words stung, even if they came from a mechanical voice.

[WITH THE USE OF THIS SKILL, THE SYSTEM WILL TAKE CONTROL OVER THE USER'S BODY TO TEACH THEM THE FIGHTING STYLE OF A REAL FAIRY THROUGH A REAL-LIFE COMBAT SCENARIO.]

He blinked several times, trying to process that. "It's… going to teach me? Through an actual fight?"

The system wasn't done yet.

[A PIECE OF ADVICE: USE THE SKILL PREFERABLY WHEN OUTNUMBERED OR DISRESPECTED. DUE TO ITS LIMITED USE, IF THE HOST USES IT RECKLESSLY, THEY WILL LEARN LITTLE FROM THE EXPERIENCE. IN THE END, EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER.]

When the final line appeared, Fai simply sat there—speechless.

"The system… just roasted me," he muttered under his breath. "It's actually roasting me."

He stared blankly at the fading blue screen, not sure whether to laugh, be offended, or feel impressed.
