"Good afternoon ma'am, I'm Mariah." she stretched out her hand.
Aveline glanced at her well manicured nails, and was almost too ashamed to accept her handshake with her regular ones.
"Nice to meet you, Mariah." She eventually relented out of politeness, and shook her.
"It's so nice to meet you too, miss Aveline."
"No, please just call me Aveline. We're about the same age anyway." She smiled sweetly.
"Okay Aveline."
Aveline returned her attention to the food, but realized she suddenly felt too nervous to eat.
Both pairs of eyes were on her, which made her feel a little too self-conscious.
"Chef, I noticed something in the gardens. Do you mind checking it out with me? It has to do with the fresh veggies." Mariah, seeing how uncomfortable Aveline was, called out to the chef.
"Sure girl. Let's go." He understood immediately, and followed Mariah out of the room.
Aveline released a huge breath of relief because, finally, she could focus on her food.
