Chapter 1 - 01

Aaron stood before the throne of onyx, the underworld's chill pressing against his skin. His hair, once white as starlight, trembled with power and dread. Across from him, seated on a throne carved from bone and stone, sat his father: the God of the Underworld.

"Aaron, the God of Time," his father intoned, voice deep and unyielding. "I bestow upon you the punishment of living on Earth for ninety days"

Aaron's pulse quickened. He lifted his chin. "But Father," he said, voice steady though his heart pounded, "what was my offence aside from that? I only did that to help."

"To help!!!" his father snapped. ""that is your offence Aaron you messed with it all, gods are not supposed to feel any emotions, they don't have a heart, they are not supposed to feel, but you broke rules just to help!"."

Aaron's hands clenched at his sides. ""She lived her whole life in pains, suffering and you choose the most brutal way for her to meet her end???, of all ways?"

"Sympathy," his father said, "is not ours to give. Each life's end is already set. Everyone has their own role to play and how they die have already been decided but you broke that rule for that you are going to be punished severely"

Aaron bowed his head. "I accept my punishment??, isn't it just 90 days I will live and return"

His father raised a hand. "I am not done, son. Ichiro!" He called

From the shadows stepped Ichiro, God of Justice, holding a scroll that glowed with runes. Aaron watched as Ichiro unrolled it.

"I, Ichiro the God of Justice, sentence Aaron the God of Time to the Earth Kingdom for ninety days and ninety nights," Ichiro read. "He will live each day as a human and each night as a Grim Reaper. He must not feel. He must not interfere with the living. If he does, he will be locked in the Frozen Mountain to relive a mortal life. If he then fails his mission again, he shall perish vanishing from both the world and the afterlife, ceasing to exist as a divine being."

Aaron's face went pale. "What? Father, Ichiro this is too much!"

"Don't call me son...'"he continued. "before I became your father I was the god of the underworld, and before I became the God of the underworld I was the king but the moment you came I dropped my title, so no matter what you say, I can't do anything the court wished to cast you out.. Now go complete your mission and return."

As his father turned, Aaron took a step forward. "Isn't this too much for a slight offence?" he asked.

From the side, Kaiko, God of War, appeared his armor shining. "A slight offence? Count yourself lucky I did not have you erased on the spot."

Aaron squared his shoulders. "lucky?, I know you are happy, that now there's no one to compete with you but I assure you that I will return"

Kaiko smiled. "You think it's that simple? Go and see for yourself."

As kaiko turned to leave , Aaron wanted to run after him, but Ichiro drew him back with his powers. "It's not worth it. You will only anger father more."

"Father?" Aaron asked, hurt. "someone that couldn't even give a deserving punishment, is who you are referring as father???"

Ichiro's expression softened. ""Like he said, before he became our father he was once the king of God's. The court wanted to banish you because they wanted a girl not two God's but a goddess as a second child but it turns out you were a boy, but father offered to step down just to protect you so do your best not to let him down, always remember He gave up his crown to keep you safe. Do not let him down."

Aaron swallowed. "What….?, I never knew father went through that"...

"Now you know, so keep yourself in check and remember he doesn't have a heart and not supposed to feel." He stopped as he was about to leave Aaron asked "what..wh…aat about the king of God's now?"

"I will say no more" he responded

"I promised to return things back to the way it was" Aaron declared.

But Ichiro knew what was going on

"Don't just talk, show it.." then all of a sudden he disappeared into the thin air

******

As soon as his brother disappeared darkness swallowed Aaron's senses. When he opened his eyes, he stood in a vast black hall, lit by strange, soft light. His hair had turned jet black. His white robes were gone, replaced by leather garments that fit him like a second skin. At his side hung a sword as dark as midnight.

A door creaked open. A woman enteredtall, with skin like warm bark and hair like autumn leaves. Her eyes shone green.

"You look nothing like your father," she said, circling him.

Aaron drew his sword, posture ready. But the blade dissolved at her command.

Aaron lowered his head. "Who are you, and why am I here?"

"Easy," she said. " I guess they did not tell you who I am before sending you here."

"Who are yooouu… and why are you here??" Aaron asked again

"I am ikhira, the Goddess of Nature"

Then Aaron finally stood up properly as soon as he heard who she was and bent down "I am so sorry, I deserve whatever punishment you give" he bent down

Ikhira studied him kindly. ""You are already serving a punishment, so who am I to add to it , when you are his son... the God of the underworld???, well I must say you are you… you are stubborn and I hope you are able to fulfill your mission on earth"

Aaron frowned. "What do you mean??, I have been Watching over the humans and I know how the earth works".

""Watching, but this is your first time on Earth, so I hope you don't get mislead"

He straightened. "Where will I go? How will I survive, how am I supposed to live like a human?, and as a Reaper???"

"I don't know, just do the job and take the souls that are already done with their lives on Earth, I think. And take note ...you are a human during the day, so you have no powers, and you get hungry. So keep yourself out of danger."

"I am aware of that, but in order to, I will need to blend into the human world. Where will I get those?" Aaron asked.

"Everything is prepared," Ikhira said. "You have a place to stay, supplies, and knowledge of those whose time grows short. Live like they do until sunset."

Ikhira smiled and repeated ."I hope you succeed."

With that, she passed through a golden gate and vanished. The gate closed softly behind her.

Alone, Aaron drew a steady breath. Day one of ninety had begun. He turned away from the screen and walked toward the door, ready to live as a reaper and ready to claim only what fate allowed.
