Chapter 96 - 96: What's he doing here?

Adrian's POV

I had been pacing to and fro in front of the funeral home, my steps restless, my eyes fixed on the street beyond, waiting and hoping for any sight of Nanny Brielle's rejected mate.

The guards I'd sent to his clinic had come back empty-handed. They reported it closed and abandoned, with the doors shut tight for days. His call line too, unreachable. Still, I had clung to the belief that the news of Nanny Brielle's death would have reached him by now, that he would know this was where I held her memorial, that he would come for her urn.

He had his eyes everywhere. That was what had always made him dangerous. His minions whispered to him in shadows, just as Nanny Brielle's whisperers once did for her. That was why I had been so certain he would appear. Why I stayed behind, even as night crept over the sky, deliberately delaying my return to the pack in case he wanted to slip in unseen, under cover of dark.

But the hours dragged and still, no sign of him.
