Amara's POV :
I felt like I stepped into the world. Again.
San Lorenzo Academy Of Excellence. The 'elitest' school to be found in Manila— Nah, cut that—In the whole Phillipines.
After what felt like an eternity (Yeah, yeah. Just one month, I know), I, Amara Velasco returned to my school for my last year. The end of the last session was great. I was the topper of the school again. But it didn't surprise me anymore. My goal is to pursue this position this year, too. I'm a shy and a nerdy girl, that is why the students make face and laugh when I walk pass them. But do I care? YES!
Because I'm a very sensitive girl. I cry easily when they tease me, even though I try to be strong. But it's my last year...LAST YEAR IN THIS HELL! Gotta hold myself together.
I took a deep breath and entered the school, fixing my round glasses above my nose. My long dark brown hair is tied into a single low braid and my uniform is loosely hanging on my body.
I moved straight to the hall because it was time for the sections to be re-shuffled as it always happens in the starting of a new session. I just hope I don't get that Cassandra 'Cassie' Reyes. She is the 'queen bee' of our school who buzzes annoyingly in my ears and tease me. I always end up crying when she mocks me.
I stood in the last row and took a deep breath before looking at the principal. After a long speech, they started the re-shuffling of lower to higher grades. Finally, it was the time for Grade 12.
Ms. Veronica Cruz, the Head of Student Affairs looked at us and took out a note before naming the first Section of Grade 12 : Luna.
My name wasn't called for that section.
Ms. Veronica started to call students for the other two sections, Rizal and Bonifacio.
My name wasn't called for that section.
"And for the last section of Grade 12, Mabini, following students are selected...."
I was thinking...what if my bullies destroy my last session? What if I fail to get marks? What if I—
"...and Amara Velasco."
I opened my eyes wide and realized I had been selected for the section : Mabini. I sighed and walked towards my new classroom. Alone. I jostled through the crowd before entering the classroom. It was neat and unlike the classroom from my previous session, it was large.
NO— THERE SHE IS. WITH HER LITTLE FRIENDS! Cassandra Reyes.
She was in my section. It couldn't be worse. I slowly walked towards the front desk beside the window and sat there before opening my new Physics book and reading it.
"Hey, Grandma. You're in our section? What a shame," Cassie called out, making her friends laugh.
I closed my eyes and sighed before opening them again, my eyes fixed on my book.
Suddenly, there was a buzz outside the classroom. The door swung open with a confident click and all eyes swap towards the entrance.
There he stands — wearing his signature half-unbuttoned white polo that reveals a silver chain resting against his collarbone. His black slacks fit perfectly, and his Nike sneakers tap rhythmically on the polished floor as he strides in, hair tousled just enough to look effortlessly cool.
A sly smirk curls at the corner of his lips as he scans the room, his sharp eyes gleaming with mischief and a hint of boredom. Whispers ripple into excited murmurs, and sudden squeals erupt from the girls clustered at the back, fluttering their hair and giggling nervously.
The classroom buzzes in chaos, but he remains calm, the unmistakable king of his domain.
"No way...", I whispered.
It's the school's notorious playboy and heartthrob...Lukas 'Lukie' Enriquez.
