Chapter 27: The Musical Re-education Disaster. Final: The Accidental Discovery

Previously:

After hours of one-on-one training, Raiko attempted the band's first group rehearsal.

The result was a polite, minor-key disaster that sounded like a medieval court orchestra having a collective breakdown.

With spirits shaken and life choices questioned, Raiko admitted to Noona that he might need a miracle — or at least alcohol — to turn wedding musicians into warriors of sound.

Three weeks into what Raiko had privately started calling "Musical Rehabilitation Hell," something strange began to happen.

The four classical musicians were still objectively terrible at metal when practicing on their own.

But when Raiko played with them...

"Let's try 'Elegant Destruction' again," Raiko announced, plugging in his guitar.

"Same arrangement as yesterday."

He counted them in, and as his guitar joined the mix, something magical happened.

Percival's power chords suddenly had bite and conviction.

Melody's bass lines began to growl with proper menace.

Winslow's drumming found a groove that was actually threatening.

Lady Cordelia's keyboards created an atmosphere that was genuinely dark and compelling.

For four minutes, they sounded like a real metal band.

When the song ended, all four musicians stared at their instruments in amazement.

"I... I actually felt scary during that," Melody whispered.

"My drums sounded like thunder!" Winslow marveled. "PROPER thunder!"

"I think I channeled some actual darkness," Lady Cordelia said, looking both proud and slightly concerned. "It was rather thrilling!"

"We sounded... we sounded METAL!" Percival declared.

But when they tried to play the same song without Raiko ten minutes later...

Back to elevator music with minor key depression.

"I don't understand," Lady Cordelia said, staring at her keyboard.

"It was working perfectly when Sir Raiko was playing with us."

"Maybe his presence is inspiring?" Melody suggested.

"Or intimidating," Winslow muttered.

"He does have that eyeliner."

"I think it's because he really BELIEVES in the music," Percival said thoughtfully.

"When he plays, I can feel his passion."

"It makes me want to be passionate too."

What none of them knew—what Raiko himself didn't know—was that something within himself was unconsciously activating whenever he performed with genuine emotion.

His passionate belief in metal was literally inspiring them to play beyond their abilities.

But since they could only access this power when he was actively performing with them, they remained hilariously incompetent during solo practice sessions.

It was the perfect setup for both success and disaster.

And Raiko, being Raiko, remained completely oblivious to his own influence on their musical abilities.

"Well," he said after their latest failed solo attempt, "at least you can play metal when it counts. During actual performances."

"But what about rehearsals?" Lady Cordelia asked.

"How do we practice if we can only play properly when you're here?"

Raiko considered this problem.

"I guess... I'll just have to be here for all the rehearsals?"

"ALL of them?" Winslow gulped.

"ALL of them," Raiko confirmed grimly.

And so began the most intensive, accidental musical boot camp in the kingdom's history.

Four classical musicians unknowingly powered by charismatic presence, led by a metalhead who had no idea he was basically a walking musical steroid.

What could possibly go wrong?

Author's Note:

Poor Raiko doesn't realize that his passionate presence during rehearsals is somehow making everyone play better than they should be able to.

This is going to create SO many problems when he's not around to... uh... "inspire" their performances... 🤣🎸⚡
