Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Wight Slayer

The firelight weakly climbed over that tall, thin shadow.

The moment he raised his head, a chill shot from the soles of his feet straight to the top of his skull, and Levi's scalp immediately exploded with fear.

Before he could recover, the grotesquely twisted mummy suddenly let out a shriek and pounced forward.

The ear-piercing scream at close range made his blood nearly freeze. Levi used almost the greatest courage of his life to break free from this state, rolling to one side with a thud. When he looked back, he saw that the crafting table behind him had been smashed to pieces by this strange thing.

What tremendous strength!

By the weak firelight, he finally saw clearly the appearance of this uninvited guest.

Tattered clothes, a tall and thin shadow-like body, eyes glowing with dim light, and ancient jewelry and ornaments jingling on its body.

Considering his current geographical location, a word immediately popped into Levi's mind:

Wight!

Holy crap!

I deliberately avoided the Barrow-downs and the Old Forest, so how could I still encounter this thing!

Don't come any closer!

Gulp.

His throat moved with difficulty, and he could clearly feel that his breathing had become erratic.

"Heh heh heh heh..."

The tall shadow made an ugly laugh, like a broken bellows forcefully pushing air.

It smelled a sweet scent...

Fear.

That spider web-like fear pressed down on Levi, pinning him to the ground, making him unable to move.

The wight was very pleased.

Realizing that he seemed to have become a plaything for the wight's amusement, Levi instinctively gripped the stone sword in his hand tighter, feeling a surge of humiliation.

Could I, a dignified Minecraft player, suffer such indignity?

Today, no matter what, I must take it on!

Swoosh...

A burial sword covered with ancient rust was slowly drawn out. The wight raised its withered arm high, about to strike down—

"Ahhh!"

The figure on the ground roared angrily, suddenly gripping the sword in his hand tightly, scrambling to his feet, and swinging forward!

Clang!

A crisp, striking sound rang out.

His wrist went numb, feeling as if the sword had struck iron.

If what he held was really just an ordinary stone sword, the blade would probably have shattered from this blow.

Attack effective.

[-3]

A line of text floated through Levi's field of vision.

Seemingly completely unexpected that it would face resistance, caught off guard, the wight staggered from the blow, looked at Levi, then incredulously at the gap in its own body.

A mere stone sword had actually penetrated its magical protection and rusty armor to truly wound it.

What kind of stone is your sword made of?

"Hiss!"

A sharp cry rang out, and Levi knew he had angered this undead spirit.

He straightened up and focused intently on the wight.

The next moment, he saw a line of text appear above its head.

[57/60]

Health bar.

Damn it, this thing has a full sixty hit points!

Three times his own!

And it has built-in armor!

Since he hadn't seen other humans, Levi could only use himself and the hobbits he'd met during this time as reference points.

He himself had 20 health, while ordinary adult hobbits fluctuated between 15-18, with few exceeding this value.

It was hard to imagine how the Kingdom of Arnor had dealt with these wights back then.

[+1]

A small block of green text suddenly floated beside the wight.

[58/60]

"What!"

Wait, how are you...

No time to think further. Clap!

A thunderous sound as the ancient long sword met the stone sword, and Levi felt his arm go numb.

Such great strength!

And it regenerates health so quickly!

"Ha!"

He exerted himself forcefully, barely managing to deflect the long sword.

My system-crafted stone sword is no pushover either!

Swoosh...

Another sword strike, and the wight's body showed another small gap.

[-4]

[54/60]

Good, although it has thick health, as long as I can keep cutting...

Whoosh...

A sound of wind came from beside his ear. Before he could react, he saw the wight's other hand whistling toward him, slapping his waist and directly sending him flying. For a moment, Levi lost consciousness completely, his vision went black, and when he opened his eyes again he was lying on the ground.

[-7]

[13/20]

His waist hurt like hell.

[14/20]

The burial rings covering the wight's hands successfully functioned as brass knuckles at this moment. When that thin, long hand swept over, the metallic sensation was crystal clear.

[16/20]

[17.5/20]

However, in just two seconds, the wound rapidly healed as his saturation decreased. Seeing another attack coming, Levi hurriedly got up and hastily blocked the sword swinging down again.

[20/20]

In just the moment it took to get up, his health had returned to full, and his nearly broken waist no longer hurt, as if the serious injury just now had been an illusion.

The cost was that the pre-stored second hunger bar had dropped by nearly half.

He took a deep breath.

Calculating it this way, he actually had 60 hit points too.

If you counted the food reserves in his inventory, it was even more.

In that case, what was there to fear? Come on, let's duel!

Honestly, their swordsmanship was about evenly matched. Levi didn't know any proper techniques at all, and the wight's swordsmanship wasn't particularly skillful either under the limitations of its twisted limbs. This battle was basically a slugfest.

Bang!

Forcefully deflecting the ancient sword, he again swung with full force. The wight's body continuously showed -3 -3 and occasionally burst out -4 -5. Under the constant forced knockback and solid damage, this wight was actually suppressed and forced back two steps.

However, this momentary unexpected ferocity only went so far. The wight, which had seen great storms, quickly reacted.

It was just a stone sword that could break its defense with special power enhancement... it had seen similar things when fighting the Dúnedain.

Swoosh...

Soon, the wight that had reacted swung down with a sword. In his panic, Levi only managed to dodge the vital points by turning sideways but still got a large gash.

[-6]

Just six points of damage... it would be back to full soon!

Just as he was thinking this, his heart suddenly seized with intense pain.

[-1]

He suddenly looked at his status bar.

He saw the red heart representing health suddenly crack, and its color gradually darkened.

[-1]

Wither?

No, this was...

[Curse: 2s]

Wights, also called evil spirits, were servants of darkness. Their very existence represented some kind of evil.

In this instant, Levi immediately found himself in a dilemma, instinctively feeling a sense of retreat.

Fighting unarmored against a monster that crushed him in all aspects and had a damage-over-time buff was really quite troublesome.

How did he used to deal with this kind of stat monster when playing games?

Positioning, terrain abuse, using mechanics and special properties to defeat raw numbers.

Special properties...

Thud.

Another sword came at him. Levi rolled on the ground like a donkey, narrowly avoiding it, and casually threw up a handful of dirt.

Eat dirt, you old fossil!

In terms of movement, if it were in-game using keyboard controls, his positioning would be decent, but this was reality after all. He was experiencing combat for the first time. Honestly, just suppressing the fear in his heart while still being able to counterattack was already using all his strength.

So he could only rely on... special properties!

Levi stood up. Having stumbled and rolled on the ground for several seconds, his health had returned to full again.

The pre-stored hunger bar was also completely consumed.

"Ugly thing, look at me!"

The taunt immediately took effect. The wight's eyes grew even brighter, and it charged forward with anger.

Seeing it had already run within one meter, its sword was already striking his body.

The next moment.

He endured the pain and suddenly raised his hand.

Snap.

A block of stone exactly one meter in length, width, and height suddenly appeared out of thin air, blocking between them. The wight immediately stumbled into it.

Levi naturally wouldn't miss this opportunity. He repeatedly raised his sword and struck. Caught off guard, the wight lost its footing and fell to the ground.

[-3 -3...]

[27/60]

"Roar!"

Seemingly sensing that its power was continuously draining and it might truly fall into the void of dissipation, the wight suddenly erupted, desperately trying to climb over the stone to move forward.

However, he just stepped back, took out another stone with his other hand and placed it, once again blocking the wight's movement.

The wight was furious beyond measure. It was just a stone... normally it could even phase through such things by using some of its power, but the stone this human conjured from thin air was extraordinarily special. Its power couldn't penetrate it at all.

Thud!

A figure descended from above, striking the wight's forehead with an axe.

This jumping axe strike actually dealt 10 points of damage directly.

Having succeeded with one hit, Levi immediately switched to his stone sword and rapidly slashed.

[-4 -4...]

At this moment, the wight finally recovered and drew its ancient sword.

Swoosh...

A sword thrust into his chest.

However, he ignored it completely, grabbing the ancient sword and keeping it lodged in his chest.

Then, he went all-in on damage trading.

Bang!

"Ahhhhh!"

When the final sword fell.

Sharp cries spread across the wilderness. A black aura rose from the wight's body, and the next moment it exploded and dissipated in mid-air.

The mummy suddenly lost its power, falling to the ground with lifeless eyes.
