Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Prancing Pony

Taking a moment to catch his breath, Levi casually picked up the grilled sausage by the campfire.

The timing was perfect.

After a few bites, his health returned to full.

Broken bones unscientifically reconnected, wounds healed rapidly, and his pale complexion gradually returned to a healthy color.

[20/20]

He suddenly felt his whole body relax.

Only then did he notice the newly unlocked title system.

At the moment, the title interface had only one lonely "Wight Slayer" lying inside.

When Levi focused his attention on it, an "Equip" option appeared.

"After equipping a title, certain special beings and those with keen intuition can directly know your deeds through observation, and your related achievements will spread at a faster rate."

"This is indisputable proof."

It seemed... it really was just a title with no actual bonuses.

Well, it wasn't bad either.

Without dwelling on it too much, he casually clicked equip and looked at the wight's remains beside him.

After the evil spirit attached to it had dissipated, this was just a corpse with a somewhat twisted appearance.

This should count as an elite monster, right? Shouldn't it drop something?

Next came the pleasant corpse-looting time.

Rustle.

The mummy was turned over.

By moonlight, he could see quite a few glittering items.

It was clear that this corpse had belonged to a wealthy family in life, covered head to toe in burial jewelry and ornaments.

"Evil has been banished; rest in peace."

Muttering quietly, Levi felt no psychological burden as he collected the jewelry from the mummy and put it in his backpack.

His first pot of gold in Middle-earth.

These pieces of jewelry looked to be in decent condition and should be worth quite a bit of money.

He'd keep them in his backpack for now and put them in sunlight during the day to remove any possible curses.

This was a method mentioned in the original works, so it should be useful.

After collecting the jewelry, Levi looked at the ancient sword that had fallen to the ground nearby.

As he picked it up, a line of description appeared:

[Ancient Barrow Sword · Attack Power +4]

There was no other description beyond that.

"Seriously, that's it?"

At least it was equipment dropped by an elite monster... how could its attack power be the same as a wooden sword?

You had to know that when the wight was wielding it, the attack power was definitely more than 4 points, and getting hit by it even came with a wither effect.

So it really was "wash white, weaken by 30%" huh.

He could only attribute this to the wight itself having some kind of cursed power.

Although somewhat disappointed, it was still a real sword made of actual metal, so Levi put it in his backpack anyway.

There were plenty of empty slots, so he'd keep it as a memento.

All in all, the harvest wasn't too bad.

Finally, after spending some time tidying up, he quickly extinguished the campfire and set off by moonlight.

If he could encounter wights right by the main road, this place was clearly not suitable for a long stay.

Though thinking about it carefully, it might have been because his tree-chopping was too loud or the campfire was too conspicuous, and it happened to attract a wight that wasn't too far away.

Whoosh...

On the main road, an agile figure ran at high speed.

Day rose and moon set.

It wasn't until the glow spread across the sky that Levi suddenly stopped, climbed up a small hill in a few steps, and gazed into the distance.

At the end of the horizon was clearly a small town.

Even though he'd never been there, the name immediately popped into his mind:

Bree.

"Finally..."

He felt slightly excited.

Finally, he could see other humans.

But before that...

Levi jumped down from the small hill, took out a pile of jewelry from his backpack, and placed it in the sunlight.

Before long, wisps of black vapor evaporated from them.

The dim jewelry regained its luster.

The curses on them had been lifted.

After confirming there were no other abnormalities, he packed everything up and left.

As the saying goes, "Mountains look close, but horses die running toward them."

It wasn't until his usual "morning meal" time that Levi arrived at a gate and submitted to questioning by the guards.

This was the first time he had seen humans in this world.

"Who are you?"

"Just an ordinary adventurer."

"Adventurer?"

Through the small window of the town gate, a face looked him up and down with confusion, especially taking several extra looks at his clothes.

"Strange attire indeed, but we don't refuse so-called adventurers here."

The window closed, and the guard left.

Levi wanted to say something more, but the next moment, the gate suddenly opened.

"Come in, adventurer sir."

He nodded in acknowledgment.

He also glanced at the guard's health bar.

20 hit points, same as himself.

A pure human.

"By the way, I'd like to ask where The Prancing Pony inn is. I heard it's quite good."

"Over there, straight ahead." The guard pointed in a direction.

"Thank you."

It didn't take too long to walk there, at least not long compared to the distances he had been running these past days.

Soon, a building with a conspicuous sign appeared before him.

The wooden sign was carved with a leaping horse... the "Prancing Pony."

The Prancing Pony inn, operated by the "Butterbur" family for generations.

Business here seemed to always be good. Even in the late morning, quite a few people were gathered here.

Ignoring the appraising glances from the side, Levi headed straight for the bar upon entering.

"Hello, guest, what do you need?"

"I need a place to rest and some food."

After speaking, he looked down at his own clothes.

This outfit really stood out as unusual here.

"If possible, could you also prepare a set of clothes for me?"

The bartender hesitated for a moment, not immediately agreeing.

After all, running errands wasn't within the inn's service range.

However, looking at this guest whose dress and manner seemed somewhat different, he somehow felt the man had done something extraordinary.

After just a brief pause, the bartender replied thoughtfully, "It's possible, but sir, that depends on how much you're willing to pay, since this isn't within our business scope..."

Clang.

A coin that looked quite ancient in style fell onto the bar, its crisp sound attracting several glances.

"Is this enough?"

The bartender gently picked up the ancient coin, widening his eyes to examine it carefully.

"...Sorry, sir, I cannot assess its value. Please wait, I'll call the boss."

Soon, a middle-aged man hurried over.

He first glanced at Levi, then at the coin on the bar.

His gaze couldn't move away from it.

"Beautiful, truly beautiful."

The boss murmured, "Although it's just a silver coin, it looks quite old, and this craftsmanship has probably been lost... Guest, are you sure you want to give this to me?"

The coin's material itself wasn't rare, but the meaning it contained, its age, and the history it represented were very valuable. Some people would pay quite a good price for it.

"Yes."

"Very well then."

The boss said, "The finest guest room, the most sumptuous food and wine, and the best fabric clothes in all of Bree... I guarantee you, everything will be the finest."

"Please rest for now; I'll prepare these things."

After briefly measuring Levi's build and asking a few questions about style preferences, the boss left.

Before long, the bartender brought over a large plate of roasted meat, stewed dishes, and other signature foods as instructed, along with some fresh fruit and a mug of The Prancing Pony's specialty beer with foam almost overflowing.

Taking a small sip, there was a distinct wheat aroma.

After wolfing down the meal, his saturation directly recovered to the maximum two bars.

After downing the entire mug of beer in one go, he also gained a drunkenness buff lasting several dozen seconds, manifesting as mild dizziness.

Taking advantage of the short-duration buff, Levi went directly to his room, closed the door, and lay down on the unfamiliar yet soft bed.

Although his body wouldn't feel tired as long as he had food, and his mental energy didn't seem to suffer much loss either, out of some habit as a human being, plus having nothing else to do, he still lay down to rest for a while.

Lying down was always more comfortable than standing.

He didn't wait long before hearing a gentle knock at the door.

Levi immediately sprang up.

"Who is it?"

"Excuse me, sir, I'm the bartender, here to deliver your clothes."

Click.

The door opened, and he received the clothes.

"Sir, please try on the clothes to see if they fit. If you're not satisfied, we can get you new ones."

With that, he left.

Levi closed the door.

A moment later, having changed into the new outfit, he looked down at himself.

Not bad. Except for his somewhat gentle features and pure black hair, he looked just like a local.
