Chapter 59: The Drawbacks of Believing in a God

"Ice?" Shinobu didn't understand. Was Doma attacking himself?

Doma frowned. This ice was not under his control. His gaze quickly searched and, sensing something, he looked up. "In the sky!"

In the night sky, Esdeath gracefully stepped down a staircase of ice crystals, her very presence making the air colder. "Is this a demon? An interesting creature," she looked at Doma, her desire to fight already uncontrollable. Especially after hearing in the group that they are immortal. Surely, they can satisfy my craving for slaughter?

"This beautiful lady, you are not human, are you?" Doma covered his face with his fan, his eyes narrowed in a smile.

Shinobu drew her blade, wary of both of them. Someone who can also use 'Blood Demon Art' is likely another demon.

"Don't be nervous. She is Esdeath," Ren's voice came from beside her.

"Ren-kun?" Shinobu's tense body finally relaxed. It was the warlike group member.

Then she saw two other figures appear. Aqua, in blue clothes, and Exusiai, with her halo glowing brightly in the night.

"Who… exactly are you people?" Doma calmed down. They had appeared strangely and seemed connected to Shinobu.

"My goddess power is back!" Aqua suddenly shrieked with extreme excitement. She closed her eyes, and a brilliant, holy divine light began to emanate from her body. At this moment, she was truly the Goddess of Water.

"What… happened to me…" the divine light illuminated the night. Under its holy radiance, Doma's body actually began to disintegrate. He tried to restore himself, but it was useless. In deep confusion, he turned to dust.

"…" Immediately, the scene fell silent. Everyone stared at Aqua.

Noticing their gazes, she opened her eyes. "Why are you all staring at me? Do you want to believe in this goddess?"

Esdeath's voice was like ice. "You stole my prey."

"Huh?" Aqua was bewildered. She looked around and found Doma was gone. "Ahem, I just wanted to test my divine power. He's an undead creature, and my power purifies them."

Esdeath wasn't angry; instead, her fighting spirit was high. "A god? Fight me!"

Ren's forehead twitched. "Fight your head off! Is this the time for that?"

"…" Esdeath blinked; this was the first time anyone dared to speak to her like that.

Ignoring her, Ren looked at the dazed Shinobu. "Are you alright?"

She regained her composure. "…" She couldn't describe her feelings. The pleasure of her enemy's death, the regret of not taking revenge herself, the confusion of having her heart's knot untied. "I'm fine, Ren-kun," she shook her head and thanked them. "Thank you for your help."

Ren said, "I didn't do anything."

Exusiai added, "Me neither."

Shinobu insisted. "No matter what, I'm very grateful."

Ren nodded. "We should discuss this mission now. What are your thoughts?"

Exusiai raised her gun. "I don't know. I'll listen to you all."

Esdeath crossed her arms. "Just kill all the demons."

Shinobu objected. "There are too many. Only by killing the Demon King, Kibutsuji Muzan, can they all be eliminated."

Esdeath raised an eyebrow. "Where is he?"

"We don't know. Our Demon Slayer Corps has been established for a thousand years, yet we have still not found any trace of him."

Ren, deep in thought, spoke. "Aqua, can your divine sense cover the planet to find him?"

"Uh…" Aqua gave a bitter laugh. "I just sensed it. My faith is still connected to my original world, and its rules restrict me. I can only use a little bit of power."

He raised an eyebrow, then said scornfully, "You, a god… are so weak. Is this not a drawback of a faith-based god?"

"Well, that's what faith is. Even in another world, I must be responsible for my followers." Aqua didn't think there was anything wrong.
