Chapter 288: The Harder You Work, The Luckier You Get
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
In mid-air, Ash, wrapped around Aerodactyl like a bowstring on its bow, suddenly twisted his body. The latter instantly lost its balance and came crashing down from mid-air.
BOOM!
The massive figure landed in the grassland, kicking up a cloud of smoke and dust. Brock and the other two hurried over to watch.
Once the smoke and dust had completely settled, what came into view on the ground was one person and one Dragon, intertwined like a black-and-white yin-yang symbol, locked in a desperate struggle.
Ash's hands still tightly gripped Aerodactyl's tail, pulling it toward him. Meanwhile, his legs were like shackles, clamped firmly around Aerodactyl's neck. Bending his thighs, he exerted force to one side, trying with all his might to twist its neck.
"GRAH! GRAH!"
Attacked from the back again, Aerodactyl was completely unable to exert its strength. Its rock wings could only flap frantically in mid-air, and its resolute, greyish-brown face was gradually turning a deep purplish-red.
This scissor-leg maneuver to crush the rock-headed Dragon left Brock and the other two stunned once again. Todd Snap was so dumbfounded he looked like a Slowpoke, and he subconsciously started cheering.
"Go, Aerodactyl!"
Amidst the stalemate, Ash's face also flushed red, but he still kept the death grip on its neck. His muscles began to tremble from the extreme exertion, yet he forced himself to hold on, refusing to let go. This was a contest of willpower versus willpower!
"Do you give up!?"
Ash even used words mid-struggle, attempting to shatter Aerodactyl's Mental Fortitude.
"GRAH! GRAH!"
Finally, after several minutes of stalemate, Aerodactyl gave up. The force resisting him slackened, and it relaxed its body's muscles.
Feeling the opposing force disappear, Ash let out a huge sigh of relief. Even someone as sturdy as him had been on the verge of losing his strength.
Luckily, he held on for another half a minute. As expected.
The Harder You Work, The Luckier You Get.
After a moment, the man and the Dragon separated. After brushing the smoke and dust from their bodies and clothes, they slowly rose to their feet and faced each other from a distance.
One was still the young trainer who commanded Pokemon in battle, the other was still the overlord of the Ancient Era's sky. It was as if the crude affair from moments ago had never happened.
"Aooo~"
Aerodactyl let out a low growl at Ash, indicating that it temporarily acknowledged his power.
In its mind, the rules were simple: if you were stronger than it, you earned its recognition.
Although Aerodactyl hadn't used its full power, let alone unleashed any Moves, and had merely used its physical strength, it had lost to Ash in that regard.
Damn it, the battle it had envisioned at the start was a peak battle between Pokemon and Pokemon!
What the hell was with this human!
Even now, several minutes later, Aerodactyl's mind was still a complete muddle.
"CLANG!"
Seeing Ash's delight as he reached out to pat its head, Aerodactyl immediately opened its large, rock-like mouth filled with sharp teeth and snapped it shut. The powerful bite created a shower of sparks inside its own mouth.
"For Farfetch'd's sake... I almost lost my hand."
Ash reacted quickly, pulling his arm back just in time; otherwise, he might have been renamed 'Ash the One-Armed'.
An Aerodactyl's Crunch is way more powerful than some Bite from a Wartortle wearing sunglasses...
"GRAH! GRAH!"
Aerodactyl folded its wings and stood on the ground. It pointed at Ash and let out another series of low growls, as if trying to express something.
Although Ash had managed to catch it and had now defeated it a second time physically, Aerodactyl's body still hadn't recovered to its Peak State. At best, it only had 80% of its Strength from the Ancient Era.
The recovery time it needed was not short; it would take at least one or two months to reach its Peak.
Besides, it couldn't even use its Moves, so it wasn't an all-out battle. For now, Ash had merely earned its recognition. If he thought he could directly control it in a battle, it would be defiant.
To put it simply, he needed to talk to it more, give it more gifts, and max out its Friendship Level.
Eventually.
Then Aerodactyl would naturally join his team.
Seeing this, Ash wasn't disappointed. Instead, he nodded with a sense of its great future potential.
It was safe to say that at this stage, none of the Pokemon on his team were a match for this Half-Step Mega Evolution Aerodactyl. Even if they ganged up on it, he'd need to send out at least his top three just to contend with it. This result already left him very satisfied.
"RAWRRR!!"
Suddenly, a roar came from the side of the grassland. Everyone instinctively turned to look and saw a small, blue-gray dinosaur beast with a large, protruding head. It had a fierce expression and was staring at Aerodactyl with big, blood-red eyes.
"Cranidos, why are you back?" Ash asked, puzzled.
It had previously run deep into the forest, found a giant tree, and started using Heavy Hammer Spark with its forehead. But Aerodactyl's dense and intense Wild Aura had quickly caught its attention, so it had turned back to investigate.
Cranidos ran right up to Aerodactyl. Although it was a good two meters shorter, it still raised its head, let out a low growl, and bared a few sharp teeth, as if issuing a Taunt.
"Grah?"
It was Aerodactyl's first time seeing this kind of Pokemon, and its gaze held a trace of curiosity.
Although the 21st century has made the world a global village, back in the Ancient Era, the Sinnoh Region and the Kanto Region were separated by an ocean, making it difficult for Pokemon from different Regions to meet.
However, the Wild Aura also emanating from this little beast attracted its attention.
Although the latter's Bloodline Concentration was only average, there seemed to be something extra within its Bloodline. Taking a deep whiff, Aerodactyl felt a faint, irritable urge to beat the little beast up.
It was the Prehistoric Berserk Bloodline, which came with a built-in Taunt effect.
"Oh, oh, let me introduce you. This is your future teammate and also one of your own kind, Aerodactyl."
Ash rubbed Cranidos's smooth head and said with a smile:
"Quick, go and acknowledge your big brother."
"Grah!"
Cranidos nodded, lowered its head, pushed off with its hind legs, and slammed headfirst into Aerodactyl.
So you're supposed to be my big brother?
Damn it, charge!!
But the difference in their strength was too vast. Rock collided with Rock with a loud 'CLANG!', and while Aerodactyl had no reaction, Cranidos was sent flying backward, landing flat on its butt in a perfect faked accident pose.
"Haha, my Cranidos is just giving you a friendly greeting! Since you're the big brother, you should hurry up and teach it a few signature moves of Fossil Pokemon!"
Ash quickly said, seizing the opportunity.
Plan B: Since I can't tame Aerodactyl for now, I'll just copy all of its signature moves!
"Aooo~"
Aerodactyl just picked at its ear with a lazy expression, indicating it had no interest in babysitting such a brat.
"Yo, are you all playing house? Hehe."
Suddenly, another voice came from the side. This time, it was a light, teasing laugh. Everyone looked over and saw a brown, Spiky-Haired Youth leaning against a railing. He was striking a pose like a runway model, showing everyone his handsome side profile.
"Gary?!"
Ash immediately recognized the person before him as his eternal good friend, Gary.
